Re: Endings

Artistry and making money need not be at odds. Let's not forget Shakespeare wrote for money as did Dumas, as did Arthur Conan Doyle. And in the spirit of honesty, I don't put much stock in what Moore says. From what I've read the publishing side of comics aren't really that profitable, which makes ...

Re: Endings

I was specifically referring to the anime and manga, which do exist to promote the arcade game. Ah, then pardon me. Thought you included the arcade too. I was talking in terms of quality, not financial success.I was saying that just because Heroes isn’t good, it doesn’t mean that Dragon Ball proper...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I think the fact that Kai felt the need to cram in an opening montage about all the stuff that happened before Raditz came along, should be a solid indication that even Toei agrees that the first half of the series is important, even if it’s not as popular.

Re: What do you want with Broly?

They did that without leaving the genre or the target demo. What do you think I"m arguing for? Do you think I believe it should always remain a gag manga as initially envisioned? Because DB changed over the years and while no longer a gag manga, the target demographic never changed. The story got m...

Re: Endings

Everything to do with Heroes exists solely as promotional material. It shouldn’t be used as an indication of how Dragon Ball would fare if it tried something different. "Core games", like a "core series", don't promote anything, though. In this case, the Heroes arcade it's there solely to be played...

Re: What do you want with Broly?

Virtually any premise that leans into the realm of fantasy is inherently silly once you stop to think about it. It's not that it's goofy them dressing up in costume, though that's certainly the case, it's that it paints the world as far more simplistic than it truly is. Oh if only we had some reall...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

Even though I have seen people who have argued that the Saiyan arc is part of the Freeza arc, I personally don’t see it very often. The stuff with the Saiyans definitely qualifies as its own arc. There’s a clear goal for the protagonists at that point that differs from their goal when they go to Nam...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

Gaffer Tape/MistareFusion’s method of splitting the manga into a total of 10 arcs should be the standard.

Re: Endings

On the subject of Goku Jr., there was a time when I wondered what a series with him, Vegeta Jr. and Puck as the main characters would be like.

Re: What do you want with Broly?

I would love to see broly become a new god of destruction. He would fit the role so well. Would he? The movie made a point to establish that Broly is a peaceful man who isn’t interested in killing. The end of the movie does suggest that he likes fighting like most Saiyans, but he’s only really dang...

Re: Endings

I suppose you could also argue that the Baby arc borrows a bit from the Garlic Jr. arc, what with the entire Earth getting brainwashed by the bad guy, only for the Ultra Divine Water to save the day. Still, I do think that GT handled that concept better than the Garlic Jr. filler.

Re: Endings

I can’t really agree with the idea that having better fights means a better story. I mean, the Star Wars prequels and sequels have better fight scenes and space battles than the original trilogy, but I don’t think very many people would consider either of those trilogies to be better than the latte...

Re: Endings

I quite like the tournament of power. It's long but sufficiently different and yet another good place to end. Why keep going? Going back to the point about the quality of the fights, it's a martial arts show. If the reason for watching it isn't of good quality, then it's a valid criticism to say it...

Re: Endings

Good fights can only work if you have a reason to be invested in what’s going on in the story. Unfortunately, for a large chunk of the Tournament of Power, it was pretty difficult for me to stay invested in what was happening, so even though there were some neat fight scenes, they didn’t do a whole ...

Re: Endings

I think there are two major factors that ultimately worked against Kai. One is that it came out at a point when the franchise was still in a dry period, and the story of DBZ had already been retold ad naueseum. The second factor, as has already been established, is that it was literally just the old...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Dragon Ball Minus is the worst additional content ever produced for the franchise. I don't know how unpopular that opinion is, but, yeah... If that is an unpopular opinion, it’s probably not by much. I suppose there are people who consider something like Episode of Bardock to be worse, but that’s j...
