Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?

I have much older siblings who were into it when DBZ was big in the west, back in the late 90's/early 2000's. So Dragon Ball is something I've been aware of for literally as long as I can remember. This applies to me as well. If I was a single child or an oldest child then I might be able to recall...

Re: The Dragonball Misinformation Thread.

On a similar note: The notion that Shuki Levy composed any music for Dragon Ball. All available information points to Ron Wasserman being the sole composer of the Saban dub's replacement score. Shuki Levy was always credited for music that Saban provided, but a lot of the time, it was actually comp...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)

That test dub of Dead Zone likely had Peter Berring doing the music. I found a link on the internet that suggested Ron Wasserman would have started working on the DBZ soundtrack around July 1996, whereas this Dead Zone dub was early 1996. Saban were probably still in the picture though, since I've f...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Singles - Faithful to Broadcast?

The Tree of Might originally aired in syndication as a three-part episode during November 1997, with part one airing the same day as "Immortality Denied" (ep 45) and parts 2 and 3 airing the following week. Obviously it wasn't included as part of the singles Pioneer released. On the singles it just ...

Re: What's Your Occupation?

I've been a university guy since 2016. Whenever I discuss Dragon Ball with ~19 year olds there these days, they mainly remember it through TFS. Interesting seeing the shift from people around my age or older, who caught it when the OG funi dub was still happening.

Switching audio between one of the versions, some Kikuchi tracks are still there, just awkwardly mixed in with the Wasserman score.
Maybe in some fan edit? The actual dub never used the Kikuchi music period (Pioneer movies aside)

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Another unpopular opinion: Funimation aiming DBZ at the young audience in the late 90s was perfect. In the late 90s, people craved more action and violence (WWF, Jerry Springer, South Park, etc. etc.). By starting off with DBZ and using a more action-packed base OST, it helped DBZ connect to Americ...

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

Like when it comes to being more modern the Faulconer Productions OST has a lot more going for it than the Kikuchi score which goes for a more old-timey kind of thing. Even in the era it debuted in, it was still a mismatch of content of the time. Faulconer Production's used the latest synth tech to...

Re: Members: How old are you?

23 in under 3 months. Been watching the anime and playing the video games since 2001 or 2002. I'm quite younger than most people here (and now even a lot older than some) but still can relate to the experience of being into Dragon Ball at the height of the western popularity.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Interesting as I found his X-Men score much "darker". It's definitely a lot more serious than the Power Rangers score https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1ZYStAQhSg When you listen to this you sort of get some Saban DBZ vibes. The DBZ score however also had a lot of rock elements and goofy comedic mus...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I agree with ABED. That piece of music of the Wasserman dub when Goku arrives on Namek is pretty good. Heck, I'm even fond of the piece where Vegeta finds out that Gohan has a Dragon Ball. The Faulconer score just is too hardcore. At times the Wasserman score gets "edgy and hardcore", but nowhere n...

Re: General questions about Dragon Ball Z

Saban clearly had a big influence on the overall direction of the dub. Also, in the credits, all of the people listed in the various music roles (ie music editor, music engineer etc) were Saban guys involved in stuff like MMPR. Saban had a new score composed at Funimation’s request, yes. Saban’s on...

Re: General questions about Dragon Ball Z

Oh i'm sure it was a cost-cutting measure, but I was under the impression the one of the reasons the Ocean cast couldn't return is because Saban abruptly pulled out of the syndication business and left Funimation high and dry. I have no idea if Saban dropped Funimation or vice versa but regardless ...

One man's weird is another man's norm. It's all a meaningless social construct in the end.

Re: Personal Thoughts on the Ocean Dub

Also again with saying Shuki Levy was the guy behind the Ocean dub's replacement score, when it was really Ron Wasserman who did and IIRC i don't believe Levy was credited or really had a direct hand in it. It's an honest mistake. Firstly, In 2013 Wasserman's DBZ involvement wasn't common knowledge...

So wait, you're telling me that the crappy, sloppily-done, rushed to market Orange Bricks are technically not even FINISHED!?! Yep. They literally used unfinished production materials when assembling the "Remastered" dub. It's a shockingly bad job. Yikes...as if I needed another reason not to watch...

Seriously, it's not like there is absolutely 0% chance Kai dubbed with the Ocean cast will ever release in any form whatsoever so making noise and spreading the word in those ways will at least get the message out in the event that someone does eventually take interest. I mean as of now it's not at...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Composer" Shuky Levy accused of attempted murder by Sarah Brown

It's crazy how the people behind the English dub for Dragon Ball often turned out to be such disturbed individuals. First we have Bruce Falconer the credit-stealing hack. Then we have Sean Schemmel and his hilariously fragile ego. Vic Mignogna and his fiendish ways. Now the composer for the Ocean d...
