Re: Who composed Rock the Dragon?
3. Does FUNimation (or... Crunchyroll, I guess?) hold the rights to the song today? Like, if they wanted to, they COULD use Rock the Dragon anytime they want, they just CHOOSE to not bother with it? Funimation did use it for the original release of the Captain Ginyu and Frieza saga. They also relea...

Re: Who composed Rock the Dragon?
Old thread I know, but thought I'd post as I have an update, however minor. I took it upon myself to email Ron Wasserman and ask if he knew Jeremy Sweet. I figured even though Ron composed the score at home if anyone knew Jeremy personally it would be him by dint of their mutual association with Sa...

Re: When exactly did the Ocean cast return to Dragon Ball Z?
The earliest year I remember hearing is 1999. On sites like IMDB and Wikipedia the Westwood dub episodes are listed as having begun in 2000, since that year corresponds with the airdates of the concurrent Funimation dub. It seems as though the Westwood dub never actually aired until 2001. Looking at...

Re: Dragon Ball In an Pal Pitch
If you watch dragon ball in European countries, then you might hear that everything is slightly faster and the frame. Rate is a bit better than what we got in America. But I still don't understand how if the dub is originally Pal pitched, then why for the dubs that get re-uploaded on to YouTube The...

Re: When Funimation got the license for Dragon Ball were they aware of the Creative Corp Product dub?
more likely a case of both Funimation and Creative Corps getting the same translation from Toei. Nannie Co (vice president and producer for Creative Corp) said in an interview they had a Japanese translator. It's not clear if this was an inhouse translator or a TOEI translator, although considering...

Re: When Funimation got the license for Dragon Ball were they aware of the Creative Corp Product dub?
There was an old thread on alt.fan.dragonball (or something similar to that) from early 1996 where someone who had visited the Philippines mentioned the existence of the Creative Products Corp dub, in a discussion about the announcement of Funimation's DBZ dub. It doesn't seem that far fetched to th...

Re: Dragon ball in australia
From talking to Aussie fans I believe it was similar to the American broadcast, they used the same Funimation dubs with the same edits. Dragon Ball Z premiered on Cheez TV on January 31, 2000, aired during the 3pm timeslot with reruns the next morning at 8am. I think Dragon Ball GT also aired on th...

Re: Dragon ball in australia
Yup Z and GT ran on Cheez tv on channel ten until 2003 ish. As far as I know DB never got a free to air run over here. Me and my brother grew up watching the show here in the 2000s and I never recall seeing GT on Cheez TV. The way I originally saw GT was in late 2003-2004 through the DVD singles of...

Are the Madman singles overrated?
I recently purchased a few Madman singles for the Saban dub, not only because I live in Oceania and they're local to me, but because I've heard some here say that they're the best way to experience that particular dub. I have no prior experience for the Saban-era singles, since growing up I only had...

Re: DBZ Ocean Group Remastered
There were actually two different versions of the Saban era "Rock the Dragon" outro. There's the original one for Episodes 1-26 and the one used from Episodes 27-53, which has updated credits. Just a minor gripe, it's great to have another way of viewing these first 53 episodes.

Re: Why did Cartoon Network revert back to the Saban dub in early 2006?
A similar sort of thing happened here when Network Ten started playing The Saban dub again in 2010, 6 years after it had last played anything Dragon Ball related. It seemed very random at the time, and they didn't go past episode 53 into Funi's dub. I'm pretty sure the Saban dub aired just once in 2...

Re: Which year do you consider the start of the revival?
For English speaking countries I break things up like this, Late 90s-early 2000s = peak popularity of Dragon Ball Mid-late 2000s = the dark years Early 2010s = the period when Dragon Ball was only relevant because of nostalgia Mid-2010s onward = the revival For Japan, Late 80s-early 90s = peak popul...

Home video release ideas thread
As far as niche releases go, one idea I have is: "Dragon Ball: The Lost dubs" Volume 1 (Dragon Ball): The BLT dub for DB episodes 1-13 and DB movie 1 The Blue Water dub for the rest of Dragon Ball The Big Green dub for DB movies 2-3 Also comes with a CD of "Dragon Ball: Original USA T...

Re: I got a really weird batch of DBZ singles, anyone know more?
So I got some DBZ singles, Saiyan and Namek saga, from Australia. But the weird thing is, it has the numbering on it like all of Madman's singles, but it says both Madman and Pioneer on the cover. I thought Pioneer only released the singles in the US. They're also all region 4, which is Australia, ...

Re: Official "Show off your Dragonball Crap" Thread
These are some of the Madman DBGT singles I got in 2003-2004. It's weird how "Step into the Grand Tour" is now a semi rarity on home video https://i.imgur.com/TaFt8M6.jpg I'm not sure if the singles of Movies 10-12 were ever released in a box set in the USA. I'm glad I own this since it fe...

Re: Official "Show off your Dragonball Crap" Thread
My collection. It's a mix of North American, Australian and UK release. That's because in The Netherlands we only got the big green dvd's and 8 single dvd's :D I wish there was some way I could get those Dutch single DVDs. They're the only DBZ home video release that has Saban's logo in the credits

Does the copyright year gradually change over time in the Japanese language credits? Does it even have one?
In Funimation's older releases, the copyright year in the end credits often reflected when their dub was produced, rather than the year that the episode was produced. In more recent releases they seem to go with just a single year for an entire series. In GT's Green Brick release for example all 64 ...

"these are two entirely different fanbases that might as well not even bother interacting with each other anymore." ...that REALLY gets to the heart of it. I've felt this way (and have even said as much myself) for literally decades now. We're all just NOT into the same series, period, be...
