Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The Detective Conan anime has been pulling relatively higher ratings than what I've become accustomed to seeing from it lately. I'm used to it kind of trading blows with One Piece (sometimes DC higher, sometimes OP higher). For the past month it's been consistently beating One Piece, and this week i...

Re: Romanized Spellings on Japanese Merchandise
Does anyone even know where the "Oolong" spelling originally comes from? The bit of research I've tried to do on the subject seems to suggest that it's a similar situation to "Yum Cha", where it seems to be a phonetic spelling that just kind of caught on and became the default sp...

Re: Toonami 2014 DBZKai Ratings!
That's...a really weird bump for Naruto Shippuden compared to last week. People specifically tuned in to see the conclusion of a three-part filler arc, and then changed the channel once it was done.

Re: Sony To Acquire Majority Stake in Funimation
More on-topic, a redub of Z doesn't make much financial sense atm. Anyone who has supported Funimation's releases of the show thus far has no problem with it, and Z is an enormous show to go back and redo something, even if it's one facet like the dubbing. Funimation has a large enough task as it i...

Re: Sony To Acquire Majority Stake in Funimation
Looks like the dub of Dragonball may have some major changes. I wouldn't be surprised if they do a clean slate and fire all the dub voices again and bring in new in-house voices to replace them with. It'll be the same thing as when Saban/ocean lost the rights of the dub to Funimation back in 1999. ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
This week's One Piece episode covered a whopping 6 pages of manga content probably didn't help any. That's beyond terrable. Why are they dragging things out this way ? Z had pacing issues but it was never THIS slow. Some combination of: - In this case they technically covered stuff that occurred of...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Anyways, the anime hit huge in the USA as I believe funimation started dubbing it around the end of the Z Dub. It was the successor and replacement to DBZ in the USA and was massively popular until its decline in early 2012. In my hometown, where it was talked about, no one ever mentions it now. I ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Not the exact amount of pages, maybe, but it's feasible that people could have figured out that it wouldn't actually cover very much material based on the episode titles/summary blurbs from Newtype magazine. Really though I'm leaning more toward Super getting a genuine boost compared to last week (a...

Re: Speedy dub - New information
If that's all true, I have to wonder why Toei (or Funimation acting as a proxy for them) never sued Saban for copyright infringement. Also brings up some questions about why Toei, in light of this, would allow Saban to dub Smile PreCure as Glitter Force (and then take the rights back after about 1.5...

Do you actually have a source for this? Both One Piece and Dragon Ball Super have been selling well still One Piece was mentioned in Top 100 anime list but Dragon Ball Super hasn't even mentioned in it and neither of Dragon Ball Series made it in top 100 this shows that they have moved on to Better...

Is there any word of Part Three's BR release? I know Part One was July (late June?), Part Two was two weeks ago. In theory, Part Three should be December yeah? Pre-orders for January went up today (or yesterday?), and nothing. Super Part 3 and One Piece Season 9 Part 4 are both conspicuously absent...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I'm surprised people didn't already know about this. Yeah, the ratings posted are only for the Kanto region, but at the same time, those are considered the most representative of what the whole of Japan is watching. And this isn't just some internet thing created by anime fans, but actual national ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
how are the BD sales going for DBS anyways? all I hear are DVR and merchs which DBS is doing great as I hear. DVD/BD sales are a bit difficult to quantify. The sales numbers themselves are about what should be expected from a long-running shonen anime, but the fact that it releases as 12-episode bo...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I get the impression that the hour-long nature of the specials for DBS and One Piece hurt the ratings more than it helped (as in, the number is lower because it's averaged over a longer span of time than usual). Still, we now have "real" evidence of how the two series perform in a vacuum r...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Other modern Dragon Ball manga releases like the Full Colors and other assorted spinoffs have, largely, not been sales successes (generally failed to even place in the top 50 on the sales charts in the week of their release which, while the exact cutoff for the top 50 varies from week to week, gener...

Re: Times the West pronounced Saiyan correctly
I remember way back in the early days of the G4 channel (probably late 2002 or early 2003) there was an episode of Cheat that gave tips for the first DBZ Budokai game on PS2. The host, Cory Rouse, actually pronounced Saiyan the "proper" way in that episode. Fairly sure that in subsequent e...

Yeah, that's definitely a bootleg. Even has random (presumably stolen) fan-art that it appears to be trying to pass off as screenshots.
