Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products
Catching something meant to kill you and throwing it back at your attacker isn't even a unique trope. The two examples could not be more different. Hum...then I may remove from the list. For me, both examples are similar, because both Raditz and the cop are fired with a rifle, and bot stop the bull...

Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products
The similarity between the aforementioned Simpsons episode and the scene in Dragon Ball Z ends at the bullet being thrown back. I highly doubt the writers and storyboard artist at The Simpsons got it from DBZ. The scenes and execution are completely different. https://youtu.be/YWDUEVL0PMI?si=8hRDTw...

Dragon Ball influences in Western products
Hi: It's known that Dragon Ball has influenced posterior manga and anime like Naruto or One Piece, and is also known that Dragon ball is influenced by Western products like Star Wars, but...how about Dragon Ball influences in Western products? Let's search some examples: 1. A 1999 SIMPSONS EPISODE (...

Re: How popular is GT?
I'd assume GT is more hated in internet than it actually is in real life First of all, I believe you, but my experiences are the opposite… maybe because we are from different countries. In 1998, GT came to Spain. I was a DB fan but I wasn't able to net-surfing then. I didn't like GT then. Reasons w...

Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?
I am a Dragon Ball fan since 90s and this is the first time I read Original Dragon Ball is unpopular. In Japan, Dragon Ball wasn't popular at the beggining, when the manga started in Shonen Jump, but became popular in the first Tenkaichi Budokai. Toriyama and Torishima remembered that contests were ...

Re: Do you like Super?
I don't like it. Main reason is Bardock. Before Bardock, I liked Super but less than DB and DBZ. Reasons: 1. I didn't like new transformations. IN DBZ, SSJ concept was original and surprising. In Super, not. After yellow hair, red hair, after red hair, blue hair, after blue hair, white hair...etc. I...

Re: How popular is GT?
I haven't official polls but I can copypaste one of my previous posts about GT in this forum. I wrote that in Septermber 15, 2020: I can only tell you this data: 1. When I was 11, GT was released in my country (Spain). Then, I had 2 friends who were great DB fans. One of them didn’t like GT, me neit...

Article about Bardock in The Dao of Dragon Ball
Hi: I have written this article about Bardock in the site of Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula. In it, I talk about how Bardock was inspired, his paralelism with a greek myth and how once he was created, he influenced the franchise: https://thedaoofdragonball.com/blog/dragon-world/was-bardock-inspire...

Re: What's up with the hate towards Toei and their contributions to Dragon Ball in some parts of the fandom?
My experience about Toei hatred. When I was a child in 90s I loved DB and DBZ anime (and I still love), I became a DB fan thanks to anime, so I couldn't be a Toei hater. However, I remember I found Garlick minisaga so boring. On the other hand, I loved Bardock special. Both were Toei products, in fa...

Re: Has Toriyama lost his touch?
Jaco the Patrolman shows Toriyama can still write a good story just not for Dragon Ball. I feel like I'm repeating this over and over . Does everyone just block my posts? Choose not to read them? I'm not offended; just wanna know! Anyway, for likely the third or fourth time: Toriyama's role i...

Re: Has Toriyama lost his touch?
In fact, Dragon Ball Super is really different than the 90s manga, but I am not sure the reason is Toriyama losing his touch. Toriyama loves absurd humor more than epic fights. He enjoys creating things like Dr. Slump, Cowa!, or the first DB chapters with that surreal humor (Mutenroshi doing dirty t...

Re: Do we expect too much from Dragon Ball?
Death wasn't played as a joke. It was a test. If 17 hadn't proven mortals' worth, they would've stayed dead. Genocide has been portrayed with Freeza destroying the saiyan race, but that had weight because none of them were revived, and there were only a handful of survivors. Most of them were reviv...

Re: Do we expect too much from Dragon Ball?
Not all DB fans have the same attitude about the franchise. Even all of them like DB and DBZ, some of them likes GT, others don't. Some of them likes Super, others don't. So, when you say "we", who are that "we"? Most fans? Then, I think most fans don't expect too much from Drago...

Re: Has the focus on Saiyan in the series ruined the entire franchise?
Interesting question. About saiyans, my opinion is: 1) Saiyan saga: interesting plot. Goku is an alien and has a brother! Fight agains Vegeta and Nappa was great. 2) Freezer saga: again, interesting plot. Saiyans were bretrayed by Freezer! Vegeta is an interesting character in this saga, because is ...

I suspect you choose Willow for the same reason Grimlock chosen Bardock when I asked him. He liked Janemba and Bardock equally but when I asked him he believed he should pick one and decided Bardock… but there's no need to pick one character (when someone tells he likes more than one, but isn't clea...

Thanks to all of you for your votes and opinions!! It's interesing when you argue about a posible influence of Superman in Dragon Ball about a parelelism in both main character's father. Sadly, I don't have an opinion about it since I am a DB fan since the 90s and about Superman, I only watched the ...

I'm sorry to say I would LOVE to read Dr Slump but I dont live in the USA so I cant do what you suggested. Also wouldnt Goku be the same as Senbei as things just happen to him without him changing at all. Even if you don't live in the USA, I guess your can get a Dr. Slump manga edition in your coun...

Thanks to both for replying. I don't really need to pick one of someone who says more than one character, but I prefer to ask when I have the doubt about counting a comment like a vote or not. I have counted Vijay's vote since he said his favourite is Broly, but if you like two characters equally, I...
