Re: Best Point(s) in the Series?

Boo. Boo Boo Boo Boo . That's right, the whole arc. In the manga. The interval from Gotenks' de-fusion to Vegetto's birth can kinda put me to sleep sometimes, but... It's Toriyama’s flawed masterpiece, and my favorite portion of the whole doggamn franchise just ahead of the second half of Red Ribbon...

My apologies, in that case; I may have been mistakenly conflating your points with those of innocent_rage and Kishido, who do seem to be taking issue with it.

Re: Why universe 6 so much stronger?

innocent_rage and TheMikado , I suspect that part of the reason this troubles you may be that you happen to be coming at it from an emotionally loaded U7-centered perspective. Humor me with a little thought-experiment. Suppose that DB had been set in U6 instead, and Cabba were the hero of the story...

Aren't the Saiyans do-gooders in U6? How and why would the Kakarot equivalent be on Earth in this scenario?

Re: Dragon Ball Z considered "epic" too much?

Ah, "epic". The process of its fall from grace registerially, as it were -- or its rise into common parlance, depending on how you choose to see things ("awesome" indeed is another one that immediately leaps to mind) -- has fascinated me to no end. And as long as I'm being honest...

While I'll reserve complete judgment for now until Herms or kei17 or someone else rears their Japanese-proficient brain case either to confirm or to deny, and while it's certainly true that folks -- and perhaps critics especially -- always enjoy having their long-held opinions vindicated in an offic...

Re: Which arc do you think was adapted the best in the anime

No doubt the first TV series’ renditions of the early tournament arcs are top contenders. On the Boo arc, which also happens to be my favorite arc in the series: It’s certainly nothing so egregious as the second half of Z 's Freeza arc in terms of unwatchability, and yet I can’t help but feel that t...

Re: Freeza is currently the strongest villain in Dragon Ball

That comparison is hardly apt or even fair; Cyborg Freeza is overwhelmingly (50%+) cybernetic, whereas #17 & #18 are still mostly biological.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

Why not? Personal preference aside, all I really mean to say is that should it happen that Kabe does in fact possess SSB and match or even outmatch the U7 pair then that would by no means be the kind of contrived ad hoc revelation out of left field that a lot of people's guts are telling them it wou...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

Goku and Vegeta trained for three years at SJB. Now they are so much stronger (although their forces do not yet know). How strong must be the kid to match them, and how its forces are another Saiyans. Champa would not take him like he was at Nappy. Not only is he/she apparently not a child, but hav...

Re: Freeza's men and the Imperial Army

This is true of almost every dictator to ever live. Variants of the Freeza-Saiyan story are older than the Old Testament. No one's contesting the story's archetypal, but that's the thing -- your acknowledgment that they do share an archetype at all itself recognizes that Freeza is at least somethin...

Re: Freeza's men and the Imperial Army

Freeza's not Hitler or Vader, he's just a random space pirate. He has pretty much nothing in common with those two characters, he has more in common with the guy who tried to mug my cousin last week. While I'm admittedly not at all versed in Star Wars , Freeza's pretty Hitlerish as far as cartoon c...

Re: Biggest exageration by fans?

To those who say they prefer the old Funi (or even Toei) Goku over the original, I can’t say I see anything about it to prefer. It’s just seeing Goku’s heroic characteristics (which do exist abundantly enough in the manga all the way through to the end; let’s be clear about that) bastardized and blo...

Re: Cell as a SSG Ritual material

I'm won't argue it either way, but science is just about the furthest thing from my mind. My quibble is linguistic. By what definitional criteria is it that the ritual magically picks out Gohan and the tykes as "Saiyans" but excludes Cell? What makes a Saiyan a Saiyan? Gohan and the boys a...

Re: Cell as a SSG Ritual material

Perhaps that would be the case, but how does the ritual define "Saiyan-ness" when it goes to "pick up" on whatever? Technically speaking, are Gohan and the boys themselves "Saiyans" proper? Is a mule a horse? If yes (the ritual certainly seems to think so), why can't Ce...

Re: Cell saga, last arc where every character is well utiliz

I see where you’re coming from; I do; rooting for heroes who "got themselves into this mess in the first place" ain't easy. Which is why I think it’s such an ingenious move, dramatically, to have the hero of the arc turn out to be Gohan of all people -- a little boy thrust into the midst o...

Re: Cell saga, last arc where every character is well utiliz

The fate of the world is not a good time for the characters to be concerned about improving their own self-sufficiency. Right -- but this is explicitly acknowledged in-series, so I'd be a bit wary of citing this as an inadvertent storytelling blunder by Toriyama. It's a controversial characterizati...
