Re: "Dragon Ball Daima" Crunchyroll Home Release Thread

Hopefully its just a production issue and copies had to be recalled. I'd hate to think a Dragon Ball home release got cancelled.

Re: Weird Old Dub Stuff

The Funi Z Boo saga is watchable, but The Final Chapters dub is still a major step up like the rest of Kai. Its not terrible, but it was the point everyone involved had some idea what they were doing, not like everything that came before where they were figuring it out as they went along.

It came to Netflix in India, Hong Kong and Thailand last year. Although not sure about anywhere else yet.

Personally I'm sure it would have became a cult classic, widely traded on the fansub market

You say that as if it already wasn't exactly that back in the pre-dub years. "Remained" would be more accurate here than "became".

Fair enough.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima Dub Releases Thread

I am surprised Pro Siebben Max didnt get it...

Did they change studio AGAIN? Are they changing voice actors again? lol, the german dubs change voice actors so much... It's weird how the german dub gets made before french, spanish (spain), portugese and italian dubs.

Anyway may the 4th be with all you German Dragon Ball fans.

Re: What if Dragon Ball was never dubbed in English?

With regard to Latin America, from what I've heard it seems Dragon Ball's success in Europe paved the way for it there moreso than the US.

Dragon Ball did come to the US before Latin America, in 1989 via the Harmony Gold dub but we all know that was not very successful due to bad timeslots and the ...

What if Dragon Ball was never dubbed in English?

How would this have affected the franchises popularity worldwide?

Personally I'm sure it would have became a cult classic, widely traded on the fansub market, and it probably would have eventually been rescued by Discotek as other popular undubbed series like Kimagure Orange Road were.

Also ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 16; Still Unreleased

Yeah, theres no way of gauging how well Ocean Kai, or Dragon Ball would have done on HBO Max, but the franchise has always been popular in the UK, aside from maybe the 2006-2011 drought period when it was not on TV/streaming, the only home releases were the Big Green dub, and all that was left was ...

Re: Voice actors that you want to be replaced

I my experience "too cartoony" is not a common criticism of the Texas cast, for the Ocean cast? Yeah, I've heard that criticism a lot, but in my opinion the Ocean cast do those cartoony voices very well, so I don't think its a fair knock on them.

For example, Goku and Raditz having a hole blasted into their stomach, Frieza's soldiers snapping people's necks, Vegeta dying, Cell sucking the organs out of someone with his tail, Tien having his arm broken off from nappa punching him, Vegeta getting stabbed in the chest by Goku Black.

No, I wouldn't. Even when the dub cast don't give the best possible line deliveries its still an earnest attempt from a human being to create art, which I respect. AI just doesn't have the heart and soul.

Theres also Dave Bridges for the Animax dub of original Dragon Ball's 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai arc that was recorded in Hong Kong and aired throughout Southeast Asia.

I was gonna mention him, but that dub is lost, so it's not like anyone knows what his take sounds like anyway.

Yeah, and i’ve never quite understood Schemmel’s possessive attachment to his role as Goku and that having fueled his actions at times. It’s not like he was and is the one and ONLY English dub voice for the character in FUNimation’s dubs of the DB franchise over the years (that being all the ...
