Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I joined :D

Honestly as a guy who doesn't play video games anymore this Discord thing is new to me but looks straightforward enough.

Looking forward to hanging with all of you there. I'll definitely recommend it o anyone else I know who wants Toonami to make a comeback in the UK.

Re: Would Level Sets be more sucessfull if Funimation wait more?

Isn't Steve Franko the guy who did the orange bricks and told us how amazing they were in the first place? Why would that guy's name be involved in anything that we'd want? From what I heard he had tighter time restrictions for the orange bricks but for the level sets he had more time to do the dig...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

The interesting conversation to have now is what is in store for the future. Is this the last release for 5 years? 10? forever? Will this impact other Dragon Ball properties going forward? FUNi likes money so they will find a way to milk this some more. Its just a question of how and when. The only...

Re: Would Level Sets be more sucessfull if Funimation wait more?

I think if Funimation waited until 2014 when the hype for Battle of God's was becoming real the level sets would have sold pretty well, especially if there had been no season Blu-Rays. It would have been plenty of breathing time for the people who bought the orange bricks and Dragon Boxes who weren'...

If I had the money I'd support WOW in getting this channel off the ground in a heartbeat. I trust in Marni to be able to launch it at some point, just hope it won't be too long. Your willingness to help wouldn't really help them anyway since you're not Canadian. XD I suppose. Just hope the channel ...

Re: How Trunks inspired a Yu-Gi-Oh card

That's really cool.

No surprises though as Kazuki Takahashi has mentioned Dragon Ball as being one of his influences as a Mangaka, and even published his own drawing of Goku.

All in all its great to see other franchises and it's creators paying nod to this series we all love.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Oh it's time -- it's time for a screenshot bomb! Plenty more to come and requests will be considered. I know lots of people want to see screenshots from the later episodes and I'm definitely going to put those up soon. These were chosen because they have the most to compare to between the Ultimate ...

I think I'm more likely to just keep an eye out for a deal on the 3-in-1s.
Is there a Forbidden Planet near you? Here in Dublin all their manga (including 3-in-1) are buy two get one free so for €30 (3-in-1 are €15 each) you can get the equivalent of 9 volumes.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

One thing I didn't expect, and haven't seen mentioned, is that the footage is edited. I don't know if it's just because I was watching it with American broadcast audio or if it's the same exact footage when watching it in Japanese or English with Japanese music (I assume it is), but there are short...

Re: Original Dragon Ball anime to be released on Blu Ray in Spain

Yeah this set looks serviceable to be honest. If Manga UK acquire it I'll more than likely buy it. It's a Spanish set, MangaUK won't do anything with it If Funimation license it and release their own set with the dub and English subtitles Manga UK very well may import it. Personally though I just w...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

I didn't say it's irrelevant, I was asking about the degree of its relevancy. The home video market isn't dead, but it's not the cash cow it once was. The fact that DVD's are still prevalent (or exist at all) is pretty good indication that the home video market isn't that important. If it was, at s...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

So I am home now comparing the first episode to the level set. The opening looks slightly better in the 30th anniversary in my opinion. The actual episode itself is better on the level sets but in all honesty I don't think the new set looks unwatchable. In comparison to the previous season set Blu ...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

Is the home video release nearly that important anymore? For people who like to own physical copies of the series they love (like I do) and live in areas that don't always have great internet connection (which I do occassionally) yes they are. As for the thread topic, yes I am glad the revival happ...

Re: What media haven't you consumed?

Seen pretty much everything in English and Japanese and the manga up to about the Future Trunks arc, although I'm not a gamer so other than the old Budokai Tenkaichi games, and random titles like Buu's Fury and Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure I haven't played anything else.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Why are people paying $800 on eBay if they didn't even sell out? Or did Funi only make the orders and not the total 6000? Yeah, they only made as many as were ordered, just like the Dragon Boxes. They made the full 6000. They just didn’t allow any orders after the deadline. 750 of the remaining are...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

The packaging is good, but its a lot of shelf space for what will not be the definitive DBZ home release.

The artbook was better than I expected. If it pops up on eBay I might buy it.

So it was an upscale after all?

What was the point of Selecta Vision trying to get better masters from TOEI if they weren't going to take this remaster seriously?

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Yeah, while I am 100% in the camp that says this set is not as much of an improvement as it could have been I can't fault the people who ordered it just to have a 4:3 DBZ release, and especially not those who haven't owned the series yet. It's a tricky one because without the latter this set could h...
