Re: Who should succeed Masako Nozawa?
I agree there's no way TOEI don't have an understudy. There's a reason why a continuation of the Super anime will never be ruled out, and that's because Dragon Ball prints money, and Goku's voice is essential to it's continued success. TOEI will do their best to replicate that sound in a younger act...

Re: How you'd break up the different eras of Dragon Ball in the west
The UK had things go quite differently for a long time. Early 2000-Mid 2002: Cartoon Network/Toonami UK Block era Late 2002-Mid 2003: CNX era Mid 2003-Mid 2005: Toonami UK Channel era 2006-2011: The dark era of absolutely nothing outside of the videogames (which were very good at the time at least)...

For me it was both Dragon Ball and Star Wars. Shunsuke Kikuchi and John Williams are easily some of the best composers out there.

The Namekian book of legends. It was just mentioned so casually like it's not all that important, but the potential is huge.

Re: Does Dragon Ball's simpler nature make it easier to rewatch?
Reading all the latest stories in the Irish media about how COVID and perpetual lockdowns is damaging people's mental health honestly makes me grateful for Dragon Ball and the various releases I own. If I didn't have to work throughout this pandemic I'd happily binge the whole series in a matter of ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I've been pretty satisfied by their quality and I don't expect to ever buy the series again after this. Same. Even if they do make a "better" release, these steelbooks are good enough for me to end it here. i think if The HD Dragon Boxes or The level sets returning were announced, i would have to t...

Re: So its been many years, are alternate hair colors for Super Saiyan transformations a good or bad idea
Fan fiction can be good, the problem is that a lot of them are lazily written and don't capture the original author's style very well. Dragon Ball is an interesting case. It's so loosely based on Journey to the West, and the further you go into the story the more it becomes its own thing. Toriyama'...

Re: Do you prefer to watch the censored or uncensored version of Dragon Ball?
IMO the Vancouver/Calgary dubs were universally better than their Texan equivalents, so even though nostalgia is a factor, I do honestly think that dubbed viewing of the Saban/Westwood dubs of DB/Z/GT is the better way to watch, for a dubbed experience. As I note above, the "uncut" dubs from Funi a...

Re: Do you prefer to watch the censored or uncensored version of Dragon Ball?
I can watch the old Saban and Westwood dubs with their various edits out of nostalgia, but it's just that - nostalgia, and as with all other edited versions they don't age as well as the uncut equivalents, although I will always have a soft spot for them.

Re: Does Dragon Ball's simpler nature make it easier to rewatch?
I would say it does. Dragon Ball is an easily digestible show, and it's always a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I also find new things to appreciate the show on rewatches, especially in the Japanese version.

Re: The History of Dragon Ball in Every Country
Dragon Ball Z first premiered in the United Kingdom in the fall of 1998 on the British Comedy Network. It aired the Ocean dub. The FUNimation dub also aired, with broadcasters switching between the two at random intervals. Dragon Ball Z premiered in the United Kingdom on Cartoon Network on the 5th ...

Re: What if the Freeza arc had a Return of the King climax?
I've often wondered how they will handle Freeza in the future, I'd be open to something like this whenever Super 2.0 comes out as we've never had a war arc in Dragon Ball.

Re: GT had a good conclusion for Goku
Yeah, GT overall was an interesting experiment to see how TOEI's writing style differs from Toriyama, although I think both it's ending and the ending of the manga/Z both have their flaws. The manga/Z ending makes Goku out to be a jerk for implying he will leave his family and friends for maybe a fe...

Re: Preferring Team Four Star's parody over the original series baffles me
DBZA has more depth? Now we're comparing it to The Empire Strikes Back? Did I wake up in Bizarro World? And we were given a reason why Bulma took to Vegeta, she came to admire his sense of pride. Right on the money. Empire Strikes Back is a movie driven by character and story. DBZ Abriged is a paro...

Re: Preferring Team Four Star's parody over the original series baffles me
I mean, it's art, so no one can say they are wrong at the end of the day, but it's important to keep in mind that Team Four Star never set out to make a better dub than the original or the Japanese. They simply made a parody, and it should be critiqued as such, rather than an improvement. More power...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release
I hope other distributors will license these remasters. I'm really itching to support OG Dragon Ball again.
Probably unlikely Funimation will do it, if anything they will probably just re-release the 30th discs again in standard Blu-Ray cases, but Madman or Manga UK is a possibility.

Re: Rankings and thoughts of the post-Kikuchi composers?
1. Tokunaga - Always loved his work, very atmospheric, space opera like score that fits perfectly with both Goku, Pan and Trunks' journey throughout the universe and the whimsical feel of Dragon Ball. Like Robo, this may edge Kikuchi out 2. Aniunes - Call it nostalgia because I grew up with the Wes...
