Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?

It's everyone's prerogative how many episodes or how many minutes into episode 1 a show has to prove itself, but the onus is on the fan of said show to give those they are recommending it for good reason why its worth sticking around for however long the show takes to "get good". For the s...

Re: The reason Goku stayed dead that no one talks about

Well, No, because ultimately Trunks creates an entire parallel universe where Zamasu is stopped from causing any harm. So he still suceeds in creating a peaceful world, so it's a positive ending. Just like at the end of the Cell arc when he returns to the future to stop the androids, thusly restori...

Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?

I've got a bit further in One Piece (like 150ish episodes) and do intend to one day see the entire series (even if that's by the time I retire) but I agree telling people it gets good after several hundred episodes is absurd. I don't know if some of the One Piece fandom even realize that's giving th...

Re: The reason Goku stayed dead that no one talks about

Furthermore, it's OOC for Goku to suddenly care about the Earth, when he was willing to doom the entire Universe in the next arc just to have a good fight with Kid Buu. I'd actually say it's quite clear from early on Goku cares a lot about the Earth. In the Pilaf arc (and to an extent the Red Ribbo...

Re: Interesting coincidences between dubs

True, although the Big Green dubs were out on VHS/DVD long before that episode aired. They were, but I think it's pretty safe to put this down as a coincidence considering the Blue Water scripts were done by Canadian writers who may have liked the series but were not intimately familiar with it. Th...

Re: The CW's ratings have officially reached rock bottom.

Physical Media has its uses that streaming doesn't provide (namely you own it). There really isn't anything cable provides that you don't get from streaming. I wouldn't really compare the two. As someone that owns hundreds of DVDs and Blu-Rays, and has easily spent four figures on Dragon Ball relea...

Re: The CW's ratings have officially reached rock bottom.

I think linear TV is going the way of physical media, it will still exist but be more for traditionalists.

Super got better ratings on Pop in 2019 than Kai did in 2012-14 on Kix, so it can still have a resurgence now and then.

Re: The CW's ratings have officially reached rock bottom.

Wonder if CW could get Daima? Dragon Ball hasn't been on a kids channel since Vortexx shut down and they stopped airing Kai, which was nearly a decade ago. Adult Swim is not currently airing Super and they're only moving on Kai episode 9 this Saturday, so it will be a while until they get through it...

Re: Interesting coincidences between dubs

Piccolo being called "Big Green" in the Big Green dub, and then in Funimation's Season 1 redub Gohan refers to Piccolo as being "like my big green uncle". Don't forget in Blue Water Dragon Ball episode 113 there was that one guard who said "We have a situation here; a big g...

Re: Interesting coincidences between dubs

Additionally I've been told the Malay dub of original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT as aired on TV2 circa 1999-2005 features cast members we've heard in the Speedy English dubs, sadly though these dubs are lost because no one seems to have recorded them, despite the series being a s...

Dubs where Goku was voiced by the same voice actor in both kid & adult stages: * Hungarian (László Lippai) * Polish (Sebastián Perdek) * Serbian MAT Produkcija (Nenad Nenadović) Liu Yi also plays him from episodes 79-153 of the mainland Chinese dub of original Dragon Ball, which of course inclu...

Re: The reason Goku stayed dead that no one talks about

Attracting foes Which was not a bad reason for his decision. Gohan being stronger than him Sure, but that was bound to not last since fighting was never a priority for Gohan. wanting to fight strong guys I think this was Goku's main motivating factor his Saiyan nature being a risk Maybe, but Goku w...

The "Lost Remaster" of Blue Water Dragon Ball

For obvious reasons I won't link it here, although if anyone is interested I can point you in the right direction by DMs. Basically on a certain site many people here are no doubt familiar with I found a rather nice sync of the first 13 episodes of the Canadian dub of Dragon Ball by Blue Water Studi...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

The new dub will be for those who hate FUNimation's dubs of DBZ ( in a similar fashion to the Ocean/Westwood dub ) That's a myth, there's never been any proof that the Westwood dub was created to serve the people who hated Funimation's dub. Canada was airing Funimation's Z dub until episode 167/182...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

At the very least, for quality control reasons, they should have done a complete redub of the Ginyu, Frieza, and Garlic Jr sagas. Use the old 1999 scripts as a base to save money if they want but get rid of the more cringe dialog and fix the most egregious errors and have the entire cast completely...

Re: Losing interest in Dragon Ball

I agree with the overall premise of this post. I've never found "who could beat who in a fight" post particularly interesting in the first place. I find conversations that leen more on the narrative significance of a character's strength or transformations more interesting. I don't care t...

...Which then means there is nothing to discuss about, besides sparring matches between the Z-Fighters and ranking them proper. There's plenty to talk about aside from current in-universe stuff. Conversations about whose stronger than who inevitably become tiresome because we can only make educated...

We all fall out of things we love now and again, don't feel any shame in it Kappa . Dragon Ball has been with me too long for me to ever truly lose interest. At times I need to take a break and indulge in other hobbies and interests, but it will never completely go away for me. I'll always be thinki...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

Yup, Kai is pretty much as good as it gets when it comes to any prospects of the Saiyan, Freeza, artificial human or Boo arcs being redubbed. It was the single chance and one-off excuse TOEI could ever Funimation. Now of course you could argue there was never anything stopping Funimation from taking...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

I'd be satisfied with just a redub of the original Dragon Ball, but that will never happen unless there's a Kai recut. Yeah, for original Dragon Ball I was going to say there's the Blue Water dub, but I guess you mentioned that option for GT and you did a Dragon Box sync so your aware its available...
