Re: Dub-fans, was there an adjustment period for you when Goku started to be portrayed correctly in DBS?
For a short time I didn't want to accept it, but I eventually came around to it and realized this was actually a far more interesting character to boot. So...here's my thing: I think either people misinterpreted that Toriyama quote, or Toriyama himself doesn't get his own character. I understood To...

Considering how common the David vs. Goliath trope is in storytelling (though for good, understandable reasons), Toriyama's subversions will never get old to me.

Re: Your opinion about Dragon Ball AI Project (DBAI)
As someone deep in the world of AI and synthetic media, this seems like fairly bogstandard upscaling.
I'll be infinitely more impressed when we get the GAN that can "downscale" Super, redrawing everything to give it that fuzzy 80s/90s cel feel.

Re: Dub-fans, was there an adjustment period for you when Goku started to be portrayed correctly in DBS?
Oh absolutely, was there EVER a hard break in my mind. Problem is it happened years before Super started airing, so I was more than prepared for it. I was a dubbie as a kid. I'm the perfect example of the doomsday scenario FUNimation set up for American fans: someone whose entire reference point was...

I'd rather Son Goku just be an aromantic ace because, you know, he's a SAIYAJIN and all that... If not for pure urges, he'd not have romantic interest at all. And I barely count Bardock and Gine in that category to boot.

Re: Which games are the most "shovelware?"
On the subject of the battle system of Ultimate Tenkaichi , I believe it was stated back in the day that Spike came up with it as a way of combatting the issue of people spamming the same attacks over and over again online, which was supposedly a big complaint when it came to the RB games. That is ...

Re: Elements of DB that look dated
I would like to see it expand into a DBCU of sorts, but to focus on the characters mroeso than "look at this new story in this fancy new place!", like, seeing Krillin fighting crime in West City isn't new worldbuilding but can give us a greater insight into Krillin as a character, which is what i'd...

Re: Elements of DB that look dated
I don't think people want more world-building, but I do think people want faster pacing. Eh?? PLENTY of people (in America and even Japan) want more world-building, Half the threads on this very forum are questions about the universe of DB itself, often expressing disappointment we never got any gr...

Re: Hardcore wuxia fans, what are the biggest similarities and differences between the genre and Dragon Ball?
Genres and what qualifies as being included are fairly elastic. This. A lot of it is nitpicking. Though it's always nice too know the stylistic origins, similar stories, and history of it all. Especially when it enriches the overall experience. Like, say, how Shula from that one filler episode isn'...

Re: Hardcore wuxia fans, what are the biggest similarities and differences between the genre and Dragon Ball?
My issue with Kunzait's thread is that it wrapped up wuxia with other very similar genres, one of which absolutely WOULD be a perfect fit for Dragon Ball as a story: that is, xuanhuan. Xuanhuan's description is Dragon Ball: a genre of Eastern Fantasy which remixes Chinese folklore/mythology with for...

Re: Has FighterZ made Budokai 3 obsolete?
For fans of DBZ media, probably. For fighting game aficionados? no. Precisely. Because for fighting game aficionados, Budokai 3 isn't a thing at all. To the hardcore, it's just another "2000s anime fighting game" that they might chuckle at and remember nostalgically before going back to exploiting ...

Re: Does anyone else feel that much of the DB fandom enforces low standards?
Low standards have been reinforced since the start. Dragon Ball as a story is a fairly wacky parody of 70s and 80s kung fu movies, using Journey to the West (a Chinese fairy tale not unlike the kind Disney would exploit, one usually told to little kids). Early DB in particular was so ridiculous with...

Re: Where can Saiyan transformations go from here?
I personally prefer SS2 just because it's the perfect evolution of Super Saiyan; before there were numbers denoting how strong the form was, one could argue this was a perfected Super Saiyan. You know— cultivating the form to unlock its peak potential, as if Super Saiyan was a new base form and Supe...

Re: The worst we could have gotten in the 90s
We'd probably also get some corny PSA's at the end of every episode, with Goku telling people to look both ways before crossing the street Believe it or not, that actually exists . Wow I had no idea i'd be correct! Still I can see Goku saying things like "remember kids, always eat your vegeta...

Re: Does anyone else find it Ironic that a sizable chunk of the Dragon Ball Community Only Likes Broly Because he’s stro
Thats how it is with a lot of the fanbase. "Weak" = bad character. "Strong" = amazing character. Look at how they treat SS2 Cell Games Gohan compared to Buu Saga Gohan (pre Ultimate). Look at how the fanbase treats Dragon Ball itself to literally any other action story! I can't tell you the number ...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?
I also feel Xenoverse 2 has worn out its welcome for me many times over. I suppose Xenoverse 1 is a worse offender since it didn't even get several years' worth of DLC; they were trying to do the yearly release thing again and it suffered for it right as the devs realized DLC was a better means of f...

Re: Which games are the most "shovelware?"
Thinking about it a bit more, while the original Budokai series wasn't shovelware, I'd be willing to include the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai HD Collection as absolute shovelware. Mainly because it reminds me so much of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD collection in many ways as well as because it did virtuall...

Re: What would a reboot have to do in order to comply to today's standards?
Really, there are so many ways a reboot could go horribly wrong, with the worst being to make Dragon Ball a squeaky clean, all-righteous kung fu- themed shonen that takes up more influence from One Piece than Drunken Master. One Piece IS FILLED to the brim with not only grisly violence and gore but...
