Re: What if dragon ball was a comic book series?

DB was never written with the intent of going on forever or spinning off into new series following other characters. I might've said this to Kunzait some other time too: I'm not saying I WANT it to go on forever or that this is ideal under the best circumstances. Just that we're not in the ideal ti...

Re: What if dragon ball was a comic book series?

Snip A lot of this is the reason why I'd prefer if Dragon Ball did do a shared universe thing. It's clearly not dying, but in its current form, it's going to devolve into a story where Goku becomes a more generic pseudo-superhero (just with wuxia rules). So why not create a new series following som...

Re: Thoughts on a potential Netflix series.

It's not like wuxia is some obscure genre that only 80-year-old Taoist monks write and reflect upon. Wuxia and its derivatives are pretty much the East Asian equivalent of Westerns, almost down to shockingly similar morals and character archetypes. Just like Westerns, there's everything from high br...

Re: Thoughts on a potential Netflix series.

People who say Dragon Ball isn't rooted in a Chinese genre & aesthetic have to stick to their guns and also maintain that shows like Xiaolin Showdown and Avatar: The Last Airbender are also 99% Western with virtually no Chinese/Far Eastern influence.

Re: It's fun reading through older threads and articles!

Ha! Found a video from E3 2001 on that aforementioned Dreamcast DBZ game. My mistake all this time was searching YouTube rather than YouTube's defeated, nigh-extinct inbred cousin, DailyMotion. My god, it's so bad that they literally have to hide it with clips from the show: https://www.dailymotion....

Re: Rumor: Disney Developing New Live-Action Dragon Ball Movie With Asian Cast

Anywho, this rumor is bunk, but if there was a live-action Dragon Ball movie, the nationality of the cast isn't what matters to me anywhere near as much as how they present it all. They could make literally every single person on the movie set, planning process, and script an East Asian and it would...

Re: Rumor: Disney Developing New Live-Action Dragon Ball Movie With Asian Cast

Tell me with a straight-face that any director or studio would wanna start off with Kid Goku in Mt with Grandpa Gohan, meeting Bulma, searching for DB & whole emperor Pilaf, 21st TB, RRA Arc takes place😂😂😂 Er... that's exactly what Hollywood did a decade ago. Like, full stop, they started with Goku...

Re: Why wasn't DB Kai a completely new animated series?

Regarding Yamamuro, it always baffled me how much his art worsened in so little time. His work in the 2008 OVA was halfway decent, which was just roughly a year before Kai. It would have been very interesting to see a re-animation of the series with the same designs and colors as the JSAT special. ...

Hard to tell. We have no idea how their digestive system works other than it seems like they can eat the same foods we can, but require far more calories a day. It's possible. Time to bring in some goddamn SCIENCE in this house. 1 food calorie (or kilocalorie) is about 4184 joules. There are one bi...

Re: Nostalgia for the so-called dark ages of DB

I wouldn't call it the dark ages but it definitely wasn't a good time for the video games. The series was long done at that point so games like Burst Limit and Raging Blast lacked innovation and were commercial disappointments as a result. Spike had the right idea with Ultimate Tenkaichi but the ex...

Re: Nostalgia for the so-called dark ages of DB

THIS. This was the main point I was making. My nostalgia of my youth aside, the nostalgia of the whole Akira Toriyama manga ending where he states something along the lines of "Now, you'll have to see the story through your own eyes. That'll be more exciting!" is what I'm talking about. Back when t...

Re: Are there any examples of a character winning a battle through strategy instead of strength?

Warning: slightly off-topic rant ahead. There are some in the series as previously mentioned in other posts, but for the most part, "DB was all strategy and Z was all strength" is more of a meme that was taken seriously for Super. DB from the start was always about who was stronger, faster, and more...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

@Kunzait: I deliberately wrote that section knowing you'd likely respond with a larger post about anime people before '97 would watch and commonly know, all because I myself am largely unfamiliar with that era but wholly know it was a major thing. I couldn't just not mention it, but I didn't want to...

Re: PlayStation 5 and the future of DBZ games..

We will probably get XV3 on both the PS4 and PS5. That'll definitely hold the game back. I know its bound to happen, but still. That's the best-case scenario, unfortunately. Xenoverse 2, even with all the downloadable content, feels like a PS3 game released on PS4 to me. It's not any more visually ...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

G.I. Joe comes to mind as one of those shows that began telling more mature stories than most 80's cartoons. For example, there's a two-parter where a Joe is supposedly a traitor and another two-parter where Cobra has taken over the world and the Joes there are dead. You can even see skeletons of t...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

To be fair, the biggest reason TV was episodic until rather recently is because you couldn't count on people (adults included) having seen every episode or even most of them. It wasn't a reasonable expectation. I guess the reason stories based on manga could be so serialized is because people could...
