Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Got the GT and Movies Dragon Box sets today, last two I needed. Wasn't impressed with the shipping though considering DHL was my only option (almost double to what EMS would have been) during the current situation, I know not to do that again. :D But glad to finally have all the Japanese sets for t...

Re: Do you think the Boo saga was the most brutal in the series ?

Tonally, the Buu Saga was kind of a mess. It arguably was the most brutal and bleak point in the series, but Toriyama made sure to sprinkle loads of gags and silly aspects to lighten it up. As beautiful as Vegeta's sacrifice is, it has to be overlooked that the immediate reason for sacrificing hims...

Re: Would you say Toei misunderstood Dragon Ball?

I feel like very few understand Dragon Ball in this day and age, and yes, that includes Toei and FUNi; sometimes it seems like even Toriyama himself doesn't understand Dragon Ball anymore. But you know who else that includes? The fans. And not just the nostalgic dub fans, but even people on this si...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings

The thing is, this stuff only bothers certain people. It can be very well true that Special Beam Cannon is in no way a proper translation of Makankosappo, but I could've gone the rest of my life never knowing that, because it doesn't really affect anything. Regardless of what Piccolo shouts before ...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings

I get the idea that people who whine about this stuff don't seem to understand the differences between Japanese and English. There are idioms, phrases, and whole vocabulary that are untranslatable and just would not work with an english dub Because it's a completely different language. So you have ...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings

Because people prefer warm nostalgia blankets and memes over actual quality dubbing, translation and localization. That’s all there is to it. FUNimation gets away with it because the bar is low, and it’s low because of ‘90s DBZ “purists” (which is such a strange thing when you think about it) and En...

Re: Which Modern DB character do you wish were in Classic DB?

I feel like Beerus and Whis are the only viable options, honestly. That said, they would be really really good I think. I want to see Beerus and Whis interact with Goku just as he's beginning his first adventure with Bulma.

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

My interest in new DB is already razor thin. Getting rid of the thing that makes DB what it is and not just another show about martial artists is the quickest way to get me and others to not care. And there's this too. I think even the majority of people asking for a new cast would end up being dis...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

Not comparable. Star Trek ( real Star Trek, aka nothing after like 2005 at the latest) is about the world and the situations the characters run into as well as how they deal with them. There is a ton of focus on these situations and therefore there are a lot of important details in the Star Trek un...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

But that is no way a justification to veto the idea of moving on to a new set characters to tell a new set of stories in the same world. This is like saying you can't have another Star Trek story without the original cast that the viewers and fans came to love. Not comparable. Star Trek ( real Star...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

Assuming GT and Super never existed, I would just want a well paced Tenkaichi Budokai arc that has good art and good animation and finds a good balance of drama and humor.

Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?

I just ran into it randomly on TV when I was a kid on Cartoon Network/Toonami, and it was the Ocean Dub. The first episode I saw was the one where Gohan and Kuririn are spying on Freeza, Zarbon and Dodoria trying to persuade the Namekian village to hand over their Dragon Ball. I don't think I had ev...

Re: Team Four Star's influence on Dragon Ball's revival

I don’t think it had an impact on Dragon Ball’s revival at all. It produced a lot of uninspired memes, and of course FUNimation jumped at the chance to include strange nods to it in their official dubs, but otherwise it’s yet another fan project that gets way too much of a pass simply because it’s a...
