Re: What is the secret to the series' longevity?
It's the art, and the fact that Goku is such a perfect reflection of that art. The art is instantly recognizable, unique, very endearing and innocent while remaining fairly simple and easy to digest; not too dissimilar to Goku. I've felt this way for years, and every time I try to reevaluate why Dra...

Re: Things that the various English DVD & Blu-Ray releases did better than the Japanese ones?
Packaging. I much prefer the size and style of the NA Dragon Boxes vs the two JP ones. They’re more compact and you get unique character art per box that’s front and center. The JP ones have the same art of course but it’s utilized very strangely; Vol. 1 in particular where you have a gigantic cut-o...

Re: your definition of the "definitive" DBZ home release
Remember when FUNimation posted the raw screenshots in their promotional material for the 30th set? Crop those to 4:3, use the broadcast audio, change title cards/OP/ED based on what language is being used, then do it for DB/Z/GT and call it a day.

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?
Well, your interpretation of a “faithful” dub will definitely never happen. Adult Goku keeping the same voice he had for kid Goku isn’t something that’s absolutely crucial to his character and frankly probably can’t be pulled off by hardly anyone not Masako Nozawa, certainly not in English anyway. A...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I find it interesting how the extremely vocal disdain for the 30th on this forum has suddenly shifted into acceptance and apathy. I guess Funimation has finally broken the will of the hardcores. At least there isn't anyone on here arguing that these are better than the Dragon Boxes like a certain o...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
The steelbooks themselves are limited, as they'll be replaced with normal packaging later on. In terms of the 16:9 release, I guess it could just remain as another option, but the 4:3s are here to stay. Interesting. Do we know for a fact that there will be normal packaging? I’m wondering if these S...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I really hope these don't go out of print or something. I have US and JP Dragon Boxes, so I really can't justify spending $40-$45 a piece on them, but if they go cheaper I'd definitely like to get them. Have they said if these are essentially replacing the 16:9 or if they're a limited release? Or h...

Re: What are the odds of us getting 4:3 Blu-rays of the Bardock/Trunks specials?
That said, I heard Funi junked their film masters of DB sometime in the past 12 years, so even if Funi were interested in doing a good job, they couldn't do DB anymore, unless they transferred all their masters in HD back in 2007-2013 when they transferred Z and the movies. They never had film of G...

Re: For those of you who saw DBZ first...
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the fight choreography. It was very entertaining and unique. It also kept me on the edge of my seat because I had no idea what kinds of tricks each character had up their sleeves. Oh, and specifically with the tournaments I was so tense because it wasn't lives o...

Re: Dragon Ball Recut [COMPLETE], Dragon Ball Kai Recut [WIP, Saiyan to Cell COMPLETE], Dragon Ball Z Recut [WIP]
Is this project still alive?? I've been waiting on that Buu Recut for a good year now, as well as the original Z recut (the only available one is by Spyro Chris, but honestly based on how it was executed, calling it a "recut" is highly debatable). No, usually a bit of time goes by without...

Re: Would you pay Funimation via Kickstarter for a redub of the full Dragon Ball media
If it were a complete, clean slate redub that acted as if previous English voices/lines never existed, they recast from scratch, had a totally different staff for voice direction, AND the dialogue was faithfully translated and localized, yes I would pay decent money for that. I would also watch each...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
It makes me wonder how some of you older fans ever managed to cope back when VHS and DVD releases had Widescreen and Fullscreen versions available. Like, if your parents had gotten you Batman or Star Wars in Fullscreen instead of Widescreen, did you or would you have thrown a fit? No because I didn...

Re: Vegeta spents most of the time being a douchebag in the orginal manga, does a 180 and never suffers for his crimes
This is kind of what gives Dragon Ball its identity, in my opinion. Goku and the cast are fighters, not superheroes or anything. Now, they DO care about the earth and its inhabitants, but not enough to do things like fight crime or hold others, like Vegeta, accountable for their actions. Their sense...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
Recently picked up Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on the last run at my local used game store in the last few days, and thus i'm only missing BT3 out of the entire series as of now. https://i.imgur.com/kbYRxYJ.jpg Oh man, this and BT3 were fun. I’d just mess around with different 2v5 teams for hours, like Sai...
