Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

G.I. Joe comes to mind as one of those shows that began telling more mature stories than most 80's cartoons. For example, there's a two-parter where a Joe is supposedly a traitor and another two-parter where Cobra has taken over the world and the Joes there are dead. You can even see skeletons of th...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

Even if his performance in Brotherhood is better than his 2003 performance, I'm still not fond of it as he just sounds too old for Edward's age. I wouldn't even say Brotherhood is the best Funimation dub ever, that in my opinion belongs to My Hero Academia. Frankly, I've never been impressed with Mi...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

Frankly, I've never been impressed with Mignogna in anything, maybe except Bubsy. That grating, nasal voice of his fit that annoying character perfectly. And as Edward Elric, well, I already posted a clip comparing both Japanese and English versions of two scenes of FMA 2003, and he just made Edward...

Yeah, even if there are problems with Super and my hatred of Minus, I'm satisfied.

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

The FUNimation dub is mainstream like the MCU? That’s a pretty big stretch, especially when a lot of people these days watch the Japanese version. The dub is still pretty mainstream and was the version that millions of potentially new fans got exposed to. A broken and completely irredeemable versio...

Re: Will Toonami survive without new Dragon Ball Content?

Never thought I'd see someone give praise to an episode of Transformers G1 for showing sophistication. Sure, like most 80's cartoons, it was made to sell toys, but at least there were times where the writers were at least trying. But maybe I'm being too kind. I believe that even G.I. Joe sometimes t...

Re: Will Toonami survive without new Dragon Ball Content?

Yeah, I've always hated this idea that Japanese shonen anime are more adult just because they are more violent than American stuff.

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

He's a guy who takes voice actors way too seriously, much like MCU fans take criticism way too seriously. I actually get it. Sure, there are more constructive ways to voice ones opinion, but I get why people get defensive when they feel their taste in art is insulted. The art we respond to is perso...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

Some anime fans have actually said this? I’m dead. Oh yes, a Twitter guy called BioZero216 (one of the craziest Vic stans you'll ever come across the internet) has called him that. For Tony Oliver, he said he was the Steven Spielberg of voice directors. I remember that name from youtube. Pretty sur...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

The way Phoenix compared Vic Mignogna to Kevin Spacey reminds me of how some anime fans have said that Mike McFarland is the Stanley Kubrick of ADR directing. Not sure how this makes sense since McFarland only directs dubs for anime while Kubrick actually made movies. Some anime fans have actually ...

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

He's popular for his performance in Fullmetal Alchemist, even though it isn't that good of a performance.

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

I really should get around to watching Twin Peaks since I'm a big Lynch fan.

Anyway, yeah Vic is not comparable to Kevin Spacey. If the two were to share a scene together, I don't think Vic could hold his own against him.

Re: What specifically was wrong with Vic Mignogna’s take on Broly?

I actually like Vic's take on Broly. Vic may not be a great human being but I'd argue that the man is a voice actor legend similar to Kevin Spacey in the acting business (even though he's also a shit human). Even better than Broly is his performance as Edward Elric in FMA. I'm going to have a hard ...

Re: Vic Mignogna

It seems like many Vic stans are Trump supporters. Hmmm... Hell, they even follow alt-right channels on YouTube and Twitter. Making divisive political observations isn’t going to endear anyone you disagree with to your point of view. The disgraceful stunt that was pulled against Justice Kavenaugh a...

Re: Vic Mignogna

I personally dig Huber's 17/Pilaf -- the latter particularly because you can tell he's having a ball voicing such a dorky villain -- but supposing he gets the boot, I'm more than open to other takes on those roles. I wish him the best, and I hope they can reconcile in some way, even if just to avoi...
