Re: The CW's ratings have officially reached rock bottom.

Physical Media has its uses that streaming doesn't provide (namely you own it). There really isn't anything cable provides that you don't get from streaming. I wouldn't really compare the two. As someone that owns hundreds of DVDs and Blu-Rays, and has easily spent four figures on Dragon Ball relea...

You mean, besides the Main Character dying?

Well damn, it's almost like context matters. He was happily going on his next adventure. Nobody on earth was grieving for the loss and pretty much accepted it.

Media literacy is dead, I swear to god.

Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?

I've given up on shows after 1 episode because of how disinterested I was in what was going on. These days I'm more of a movie guy anyways. But my general rule is to at least try for 3 episodes. I do get that some shows do take a while to get going. Telling someone they have to get through 200 episo...

Re: The reason Goku stayed dead that no one talks about

Furthermore, it's OOC for Goku to suddenly care about the Earth, when he was willing to doom the entire Universe in the next arc just to have a good fight with Kid Buu. I'd actually say it's quite clear from early on Goku cares a lot about the Earth. In the Pilaf arc (and to an extent the Red Ribbo...

And most of them are just watching YouTube and Netflix and maybe DisneyPlus and Hulu

Re: The CW's ratings have officially reached rock bottom.

I remember in the dark ages (around 2014) 700K on a network show would have gotten you cancelled faster than you can say Kaioken. Now it's apparently ratings gold?

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

Either way, I hope transformations take a huge backseat. They're an absolute tension killer and story breaker, and I don't want them back unless they do a good damn job developing the characters first. If they're really trying to recapture the feeling of pre-Daimao Dragon Ball, I hope they don't in...

Funimation hasn't done Closed Captions for their English dubs in a long time (if ever?) You definitely won't find them on any Kai release.

Dubs where Freeza was voiced by a woman: * English Blue Water (Jennifer Bain) * English FUNimation (Linda Young) * English Ocean Productions (Pauline Newstone) * Greek (Matina Karra / Emi Stylianidou) Other than the Greek dub this is less a coincidence and more Funimation and Ocean casted a woman t...

Re: Faithful English covers of DBZ openings, endings, and insert songs

The orange bricks probably included the "movie" theme over Cha-La because it had been used before and Funi were still scared of keeping Japanese songs in their dub in 2007. The Blu-Ray and streaming releases probably only retain it because they can't be bothered to touch their already-rem...

Re: Faithful English covers of DBZ openings, endings, and insert songs

Using the original instrumentals is dependent on Toei providing them with such. More precisely, it's a matter for record labels such as Nippon Columbia and ZAIN RECORDS to handle, since they're the ones with the phonographic copyrights to any such instrumentals. Like anything else related to the mu...

Should the DBZ openings, endings, and insert songs (plus extended versions for commercial releases) receive official accurate English covers with the original instrumentals retained (from dubbing companies, not the original Japanese music artists as "Engrish" versions of Japanese songs so...

Re: unpopular opinion: kenji yammoto should have never got fired

The basic impression I’m getting is that that entertainment industries in Japan seem to have rather skewed priorities (from a Western perspective) when it comes to what is considered an unforgivable/fireable offense. If an artist has abhorrent views or commits a serious sex crime, it will often be ...

Re: How did Grandpa Gohan survived Goku's Great Ape form for first time?

I always assumed Goku's first transformation happened when he was still just a baby , and so even as a Great Ape he was still relatively weak enough for Gohan the experienced martial artist to subdue at the time. For the old setting yes, that could have worked. Had Goku was picked up by normal huma...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

After rewatching the first Teaser Trailer, I'm inclined to believe that the story takes place between the end of the Buu saga and Battle of Gods. According to the trailers, the Kaioshin and Kibito aren't fused in Daima, so it can't happen before Battle of Gods. I don't see why they'd make it after ...
