Game Idea: Procedural Dragon Ball adventure

I've had this idea floating around in my head for a while and I wanted to share it with you guys. The crux of the game is that you play as a character in the Dragon World who sets out on a quest to gather the seven Dragon Balls to grant their wish. As the title suggests however their locations will ...

Re: What show covered the most ground in its first 100 episodes? DB, DBZ or Super?

A single location but with different levels. The location of the fight against Buyon looks very different from where Goku fights Murasaki. Well yeah but we're still treated to the same wide shots after every ad break and, if you're watching the anime, the same filler of Suno worrying about Goku. I ...

Re: What show covered the most ground in its first 100 episodes? DB, DBZ or Super?

Fair enough, but to me story progression is when the fight itself moves and develops in a more overall sense, which is important for the longer fights. For example the one between Goku and Vegeta does this amazingly as each combatant gets increasingly more desperate; it feels like the fight goes so...

Re: Thoughts on Colleen Clinkenbeard?

The more feminine take I feel works well for Gohan's more peaceful and reluctant-to-fight nature that crops up in the Saiyan and Cell Games parts of the story and really helps sell that aspect of the character. It also adds a bit of contrast to the lower-pitched performances of the surrounding cast ...

That would be Dragon Ball Recut by IAmTheMilkman! He did a great job and it's a fantastic example to follow. With my version, The First Chapters, I'm going for an English-only edit that takes advantage of FUNi's surround sound mix to make even more edits, as well as a little rebranding to make it lo...

Re: How did Yajirobe get the string through the DB?

Toriyama himself has stated that the Dragon Balls essentially are like natural resin in terms of consistency and properties, and that if they get damaged like a hole drilled in them, they'll return to normal once they're used, dispersed, and then reactivated. I don't think Toriyama actually drew th...

Re: What show covered the most ground in its first 100 episodes? DB, DBZ or Super?

It's also worth mentioning Dragon Ball's arcs are A LOT shorter than Z so more ground is bound to be covered in the former. Oh yeah definitely, mostly because the fights tend to be a lot shorter for the most part and there's a greater emphasis on storytelling than character fights. If DB got a Kai ...

Re: Thoughts on Colleen Clinkenbeard?

Clinkenbeard's kid Goku is literally Pre-war Luffy. It's...exactly the same, in every way. Not that her Luffy isn't stellar, but it's so similar it's distracting. That's probably the biggest distractor for me; while my heart will always be with Nadolny, the fact that Clickenbeard's Goku was practic...

Re: The All-Purpose "What-If " Thread

You know for as weak as Krillin, Yamcha and Tien seem to be, I feel like they're not incapable due to their race, just "behind". Krillin and Tien in the Cell saga are probably tough enough to take on Raditz or maybe even Nappa, right?

Re: How did Yajirobe get the string through the DB?

Dragon Balls being unbreakable was, as far as I'm aware, only introduced in a filler episode during the Colonel Silver arc, the one where Goku's clothes are nicked by a nomad boy, and in particular a scam artist sells fake Dragon Balls (which raises a whole bunch of questions) to the Pilaf Gang and ...

Thought Experiments and Logic Bombs

Thought this would make for an interesting topic! The idea is that we post thought experiments and logic bombs on a more technical level than in What If.

My example is: If you put the Dragon Balls inside a Capsule, would the Dragon Radar detect them?

I can imagine 16 berating (in his soft, monotone way) 17 over how to properly care for animals whilst on the job. Although I'm not sure how well 16 would be able to assimilate to a normal life given his rather armoured appearance!

Help! DB Character Boxart Search

So I'm looking for the artwork that was used for the Dragon Ball Dragon Box, the individual releases with the gold covers, and the Blue Bricks and its DVD menus. Does anyone know where I can find that sort of thing, or would be able to provide it? I'll put in some examples of ones I've found so far ...

Re: Thoughts on Colleen Clinkenbeard?

As Gohan, having not remembered any prior dub of DBZ, I found that Colleen worked really well. The flashbacks to Kid Goku however were always extremely weird because of my association with Nadolny in that role.

Re: Why did FUNi use different instrumental for their DB and DBGT covers?

As far as Dragon Ball goes, I know when I first listened to the original Makafushigi that it sounded incredibly weird and old, probably because it uses a Chinese instruments in its mix that I had never associated with it due to being vastly familiar with FUNi's take on it. Using a more guitar and dr...

Re: Favorite dub of Dragon Soul?

Vic, easy! As stated elsewhere it has the most energy, and there's a little flavour of "Yes these lyrics are silly but WHO CARES LET'S GO!" about it that makes it all work and come together. I also have to say that the Triple Singer mixes from late in the show just don't work at all, becau...

Re: So a blue-haired girl walks into a bar...

You're welcome! Yes, I love getting wonderful surprises when it comes to menu music on DVDs; before the Blue Bricks, there were the old two-disc sets for DragonBall, and occasionally you'd get an unreleased cue playing during the various menus, though it was often edited. I believe it's the only wa...
