Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

I'm not a big fan of Funimation practices either, but some people can be really hyperbolic about how 'unwatchable' these sets are. The shaming that goes into telling people they are dumb for trying to enjoy what they can get their hands on does more to drive people away than help them understand. An...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

Hmmm, considering the bitrate rumour was false, it might be worth picking up the first set just to to see how it looks in person. I was thinking that watching it on a CRT tv might mitigate the sharpening somewhat. I'm in the process of selling off my 2013 blus anyway, so why not. Plus I like the pai...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

I hadn't seen this thread till after I posted in the 30th, so I'll post here as well. These are new encodes. They're way less saturated and I believe the colour grading is correct. The 30th is way oversaturated to the point that it looked like it was glowing and you needed a tint shift to get it ri...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

Wait, so these are somehow a worse transfer of the 30th discs? How did Funimation fuck this up again? All they had to do was use the same fucking disc image. :wtf:

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

And the 30th anniversary set treated 4:3 as if it was this premium thing, at least now the aspect ratio is being standardized and (hopefully) it will just be seen as how the show should be presented for future releases. Although, there is still no sign of a standard release, and these Steelbooks ar...

Welp, those updated covers look like absolute crap. Will wait for the eventual standard editions.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

It's really amusing how MangaUK announced their regular release at the exact same as their Steelbooks, but Funimation is still up to their old "This limited releases is totally definitely maybe the last way to get 4:3 DBZ we promise, please buy" tactic.

Re: Manga UK Releasing DBZ Blu-Rays and Steelbooks

https://www.mangauk.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/DBZ_BLU-RAYS_Twitter-980x551.png Looks a lot better than the Steelbooks, what the hell. I hope considering that funi is sharing the steelbook designs with MangaUK means NA will be getting those standard versions too. Also hope Super gets a complete...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

mh, still feels a bit too urban for my tastes, but it is an improvement. Also, Semi-Perfect Cell really got the shaft there, huh? I'd much prefer packaging similar to the Selecta Vision releases of DB, but funimation is always gonna market DBZ to the Toonami crowd, so you just gotta hope it isn't C...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

Those new design tweaks are a lot better! I hope they fix the first 3's designs, otherwise this will be a really strange looking release on the shelf. (Maybe they are taking a tip from Viz when it comes to not being able to stick to a consistent design for their releases  ) Honestly, I'm also n...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks

Ya those prices are way to damn high lol. Hopefully the prices drops like they did in the US. Considering my only other option for years was the Dragon Boxes, I'll take it. I just want to support them so Funimation is less likely to cancel them halfway through or something. I live in Canada and I p...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I kinda saw something like this coming. Bluray as a format is slowly starting to become a niche thing for movie buffs and collectors. Steel books tend to be desirable to bluray collectors, and are cheap to produce. Plus they can still sell the even cheaper old 2013 sets with minimal confusion. Low e...

Re: Why has Toei kept the “new” movie covers?

Who knows, presumably for the same reason some awful logo was used on the 2018 movie release. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81bMGwf%2BRoL._SL1500_.jpg Not quite sure what aesthetic they were going for with it all, but it just added to my disappointment with that home release. The...

Re: People who have managed to have extremely low contact with the manga.

It took me until the start of the 2010's to start reading the manga. I was actually rewatching the anime at the time, and took a break by reading a bit of the Manga. The pacing in the Manga was just so much more brisk, that I pretty much abandoned the anime rewatch to read through all 42 volumes. I ...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Finally picked up the first two volumes of the Super manga on my most recent shopping run at Wal-Mart, and thus i decided to get a head start while still in the process of gradually collecting the original series' run. Both of them were pretty cheap overall, certainly much less than most of the boo...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?

Easily uub not being retconned out of existence would be the lamest thing I know Uub was a super lame jobber in GT, but I would love for him to a big player later on in Super. There aren't very many positive POC characters in DB as it is. ...buuuuuuut knowing Toriyama and Toei, he'll be just as lam...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

That was just the original release that was worth that much, there was actually a re-release of that game in 2004 to coincide with GT airing on CN and that one was always considerably cheaper. I know that, I meant to say that it USED to be very expensive before there were any other localized Dragon...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Recently picked up the Pioneer Tree of Might single. Pretty happy to have all the Pioneer singles in some form. Maybe I'll try and get the laserdiscs some day. Also fulfilled my childhood dream of owning this god awful game a little while ago. Good condition and dirt cheap too. Remember when this ga...

Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?

I vaguely remember watching Z with my brother when it was on syndication on Fox early in the morning. Goku and Vegeta's fight is what I recall the most about those times. A little while later it started airing on YTV with a different opening theme, by that time my brother stopped watching it, but I ...

Re: Official "Show off your Dragonball Crap" Thread

This is my current collection. Not too much special as I still have quite a few sets to complete. I'll probably never be able to afford the Dragon Boxes, so legal ownership is pretty much the only reason I own the junk Blu-ray set. I eventually want to get Super on blu, but hoping Funi will release ...
