Re: Unpopular DB opinions
It's a mixed bag. I just recently got finished rewatching the Saiyan arc and the overreliance on music from the first Z movie once Vegeta and Nappa arrive on earth is highly noticeable. I wouldn't go as far as saying it doesn't fit but it does have a feeling of "this music was intended for som...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
yeah obviously the DB/Z Anime adaption was a huge success but that was not my point i just think that the Anime adaption did not age well compared to the Original Manga which has one of the best Pacing/Flow and most consistent Art in Manga History. most of the criticism towards Dragon Ball today ac...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I love Kikuchi score, but I feel like his score in the anime could use some more variety. There are tons of overused tracks. Late reply but the original DB was fantastic because it followed the right convention of actually making theme suites around in-show characters. Z unquestionably lost its way...

Re: Yamamoto is Back
Returning to this thread (almost 2 years since the last reply, I know), the next set of music added to JASRAC under his name (and also published by the same Music Airport) is, so far, code 272-xxxx-x, precisely 6 tracks in total. And judging by the titles, as well as the only credit present being &q...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Yeah, even Wikipedia knows this much: "The Tō-Ō Nippō Press also wrote that the success of the TV drama Abarenbō Shōgun, which aired for 800 episodes from 1978 to 2008, had people say; " If Shunsuke Kikuchi is in charge of the music, the show will be a hit. " https://en.m.wikipedia.o...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
A composer known as a "Hitmaker" scoring two hit anime adaptations based on hit manga series by Toriyama is quite the legacy.
(It does however raise questions I won't go into now.)

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy
Yea, of all the examples to pick, those two mentioned weren't really that bad. And even for some of the more amateur attack names, you can't really translate them that smoothly anyway so best thing to do in those cases is to leave them untranslated where possible (though one or two would be a mouthf...

Re: Chi Chi and Goku should have gotten a divorce a long time ago
I wonder, did Goku just never collect a reward (prize money) for his victory at the 23rd Budokai? Because it seems like he left too early.
Either that or it was blown away along with the venue.
He would probably have been set for life otherwise.

Re: New 35mm and 16mm scans found
It really doesn't seem wise to revive this whole thing after so long, nothing is going to change, Toei will never shape up unless some complete change of staff happens. May as well enjoy what others in the same space have put out to see what the standard for restorations really is. It's not DB or an...

Re: New 35mm and 16mm scans found
One really has to wonder how things got to the point of a fanbase ripping itself apart over the original license holder being cringe and leaving everyone to scrounge for scraps everywhere. None of which would have happened if not for the aforementioned key factor (seriously, look at any anime studio...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
So again, this is a little bit of nuance that's lost (intentionally or otherwise) with Viz's credits Ditto, and to add, generally all English company credit translations of JP media shouldn't be taken as reference unless a JP company directly puts out a credit translation themselves (at which point...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
The fact the marketing for Funimation's 30th anniversary set twisted the promise of 4:3 to sound like a premium product for the purists shows how completely out of touch with the reality of how Dragon Ball Z was created and designed to be seen by all, not just hardcore fans speaks volumes. Thankful...

Re: Fuji TV apparantly Fuji TV has Dragon Ball TV anime masters still. Could a remaster be on the way in a few years?
Edit: DBGT the TV anime is on film, but the TV special isn't. The audio from the film is crap. Are you referring to audio when you say it's a sub par release because I think the video is okay on the Dragon Boxes? The example of Cutie Honey Flash is not too relevant because it's far away from the hi...

Re: Fuji TV apparantly Fuji TV has Dragon Ball TV anime masters still. Could a remaster be on the way in a few years?
What other good material is that? It was mentioned on here that for GT, they didn't throw away their master tapes, and yet they still put out a subpar release on its Dragon Boxes. Far as a non-DB example, they also made Cutie Honey Flash (apparently their last Cel animated series)... in 1997... and...

Re: Fuji TV apparantly Fuji TV has Dragon Ball TV anime masters still. Could a remaster be on the way in a few years?
Toei is cringe unlike most everyone else operating since the 80's, especially considering that they don't do anything with even the good material they actually do still have (not to talk of some other establishment or individual). So the pessimistic view is the only possible one that will manifest i...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
Sorry to break it to you but they DO do that. Sgt Frog mocks the Chinese with a slur, and a Korea character got banned from the anime on Axis Powers Hetalia. Well, yes, just because I may not have seen it doesn't mean it's nonexistent. Which is why I specified "all the time" in "most...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
You have people point it out in the sub-text in different Japanese media like in Attack on Titan. I remember reading that the creator has unpopular views about South Korea and Imperial Japan. I'm not a fan of AOT, but some people have told me that they have found racist subtext in the series. I als...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
Meanwhile, by contrast, Japan has a considerable degree of mutual animosity with China and Korea... and yet you don't see them making jabs about those places all the time whenever they or their cultures are depicted in most anime/manga properties (including the one that this forum is built around, w...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
Shoehorned propaganda in itself is a valid complaint. The problem though is that so many people deem ANY sort of political content or commentary of ANY sort as being this. There's a dramatic difference between a work having a political message or political viewpoint (and really, ALL works do to som...
