Re: Non-American fans of Faulconer

Is rock music even popular outside the U.S.? The biggest irony is that rock music is more popular outside of the US than inside. Classic rock is apparently huge in Africa, and heavy metal never left the mainstream in Scandinavia or Japan. More on topic, it's not like Kikuchi never used electric gui...

Re: Greetings from a lapsed fan

I know the feeling, after the original run ended on Toonami I didn't think about DBZ for over a decade. It's only in the last few years or so that I finally got around to rewatching it and man it blew my mind how much had changed since my last brush with the universe.

Re: How do you own the series? (2021 Edition)

I own several of the original Funimation DVD singles, two of the Ultimate Uncut singles and the Orange Bricks seasons one and two(purely to finish up the re-recorded season one episodes so Funimation never finished the UU singles for whatever reason).

Bummer, I may not have been the biggest fan of his score, but regardless he touched generations of DBZ fans and nothing can take that away from him.

Re: The oddest pieces of merch you have ever seen.

A few years ago I bought a cheap CD on eBay that was just listed as "DragonBallZ" with no product image. When it arrived it turned out to be a compilation release from the Netherlands called Dragon Ball Z: The Best In Dance & Trance . I guess it's not that strange, as far as "sla...

Sounds good to me, if this helps get more kids into DBZ that don't have cable that's a plus in my book.

Re: Specifically for those who prefer the Funi 'Orange Bricks' dub over JPN and Funi Kai, what are your reasons?

Not a fan of the Orange Bricks because they actually changed some of Faulconer's music from the original dub and re-recorded some of the dialogue, I prefer the original singles myself as they have the correct aspect ratio and music placement. I too am too attached to the original dub to get much out...

Re: Are there other shonen you acknowledge as better written than Dragon Ball?

There are definitely other anime that handle romance better then DBZ does as Toriyama has openly admitted that it's not his forte. But that's okay because DBZ is not a romance anime. It's nice Toriyama stuck to what he's good at (which is telling a simple yet engaging story about martial artists an...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 62 - DBZ 113-117

A pretty good conclusion for this arc overall, loved it when Gohan powered up and took out two of the Spice Boys at once and it was nice to see Popo and Kami teaming up in their journey through the spirit world. As for the filler episode it was OK, I did love Bulma and Chi-Chi arguing with one anoth...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 61 - DBZ 108-112

I don't believe I ever saw any episode of this saga on Toonami back in the day, for a filler arc it's not too bad so far, I liked the aspect of a mist that unleashes the evil inside of everyone(which leads to a great fight between Piccolo and Gohan, and I honestly did not see the twist that Piccolo ...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 60 - DBZ 105-107, movie 5

Fine ending to the Freeza saga overall, though a few things irk me, I didn't like how much flashback footage was in episode 90 to the point where it was almost a clip-show episode. Also it does not really make sense how Goku can refuse to be wished back. I did like that Goku was willing to let Freez...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 59 - DBZ 100-104

I fondly remember seeing these episodes on CN, particularly the bit where Goku is holding Freeza back with an energy beam and Freeza zig-zags around it and attacks him.

I too liked seeing a villain get defeated by Goku deciding they aren't worth wasting time on anymore.

Re: Anyone surprised the original run of Dragon Ball/DBZ/GT only lasted about 10 years?

I'm not surprised because the manner in which the series was handled by the anime staff really showed a lack of interest in operating in a very large box of ideas. Eventually they were going to collapse. From what I've heard the head writer had bigger plans and ideas for the anime but was constantl...

Re: What do you prefer? The more battle orientated style of Z or the adventuristic aspect of DB?

The pervy stuff never bothered me. Pervy characters in DB always suffered for the things they tried to get away with. Now the Blue stuff is another story. Pedophilia just isn't ever going to be funny to me. There's definitely ways to do gay jokes that aren't creepy but early DB did not manage any o...

Republicans destroy the world and the US. Democrats destroy the world and the US. Just because domestic policy isn't loudly anti-progress under the Democrats it doesn't mean they don't intentionally deflect and obfuscate away from their actions and lack of action all in the service of their donors....

Re: What do you prefer? The more battle orientated style of Z or the adventuristic aspect of DB?

I prefer the battle oriented approach but that began in DB, not Z. I love me a tournament. Yes 1000x. I prefer Dragon Ball over Z but not because "its more adventuristic" or whatever. I love a lot of the early humor and the anime had better pacing (though Z's poor pacing is more to do wit...

Phew finally got around to watching these, the first Eleventh Hour Single I ordered ended up lost in the mail so after 2 weeks(and getting a refund) of waiting I gave up and ordered a second copy. Are you collecting the singles as you go? I thought about doing that because the Dragon Boxes are too ...

I prefer Z as while the adventure aspect of DB is interesting, it's also got a lot more problematic elements then Z does.
