The only people who still prefer the old Freeza care more about nostalgia for something they enjoyed 10-20 years prior. I think it looks awesome.

I think the soundtrack has too little variety. Half of the tracks are dan dan instrumentals.
But it is definitely better than the DBS soundtrack.

Except for the Namek saga, I have absolutely no problem with DBZ pacing. I am perfectly fine with it.
And I can't understand in the slightest why the pacing is criticized so often.
I think this is a rather unpopular opinion.

It also seemed by the Saiyan portion of the story Toriyama was afraid to allow Goku to lose a fight. A bad guy can have the upperhand for a bit but Goku was never allowed to actually lose a fight. Z, in my opinion, started going downhill after Freeza, and it never picked up after that. The Saiyan and Freeza arcs were great, but the Cell arc was a clusterfuck of plot inconsistencies, retcons, and characters acting beyond retarded. I still think, even as an adult, that the Cell arc is brillian...

Even if the split was a decision on Toei, it's true that Toriyama changed his narrative style a lot starting with the Saiyans saga. The fights became the DB fights we all love (deep -something 1st part DB lacked-, coherent -much more than the fights in the 1st part- and still much more spectacular)...

The fact that side characters fort hard and died against Piccolo Daimao makes their loses all the more meaningful, it a big impact to see everyone fall, especially when they believe Son Goku was defeated.
