Is Super on its way out?
This is all pure speculation on my part, but is the Super brand being phased out moving forward? With Daima releasing this fall Toei/Shueisha would want to put their focus on promoting the new brand. Also since its run finishing in 2018 the Super anime never returning to Television. Most likely in f...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"
Even something as simple as the hair color of Super Saiyans was a product of the external politics of creating a weekly manga. Toriyama claimed he made it golden blonde to save time that he or his assistant would have to spend inking the hair black so they could have a more efficient work schedule....

Re: Actual Celebrities doing dubbing on Dragon Ball (Star Talents)
I really don't understand how people easily torpedo their careers using social media. No matter what you believe, you should be able to know that those statements are at the very least controversial. Not to mention, using politics is a good way to alienate half of your potential audience in the US....

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
if Pioneer got the show in this hypothetical then it probably would've had a dub similar to the Pioneer DVD release of movies 1-3, but for the series as a whole. Not perfect, but absolutely better than what we got. The plan originally was for Funimation to produce the edited TV episodes with Pionee...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
I would imagine that Dragon Ball would’ve most likely received a heavily edited and Americanized dub regardless of who got the license back in the 90s. That was the norm for anime geared towards a younger audience at the time. It depends who had the license back then. If Viz or Pioneer pick it up, ...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
Just like Disney didn't end when Walt passed away, Dragon Ball will go on without Toriyama. Big companies/franchises don't stop because their owner/creator passed away. Too much money on the table. As sad as it is life goes on and we have to keep moving forward. Few franchises have their creator so...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I've been wondering about this too. While Dragon Ball has always had input from others (both good and bad) from editors, publishers, Toei animation, Toyotaro or most recently the Dragon Room, we can all agree that Toriyama was the heart and soul of the franchise. Every last person who has worked on ...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Fucking hell, man. My father passed away a little over a month ago and this almost hit me just as hard. Rest In Peace, your work changed more lives than you can count Sorry to hear about your dad. When I heard the news I looked up Toriyama on Google, (as I imagine a lot of us did) and I saw that he...

We're you able to take out that one sound error with the Kaioken X20 in Kai? When Goku goes to punch Freeza in both the Japanese and English dub a punch sound effect is played when Goku swings at Freeza even though his fist never makes contact.

Re: Any FUNi dubisms you still find yourself saying from time to time?
also "krillin" is bad anyway because it just totally destroys the pun, unless you want to argue that they tried to go with a krill pun, which i kind of doubt and isn't really a equivalent to his actually pun's orgins. I still catch myself saying Krillin sometimes. Your point about it conf...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?
Anime and manga have a long history of productions aimed at Otaku containing women that get to fight, so it would hardly be an issue for a Dragon Ball series to do the same. I don’t think a foreign market is the issue with why Dragon Ball has such bad writing for women—the issue lies in the culture...

Re: Could this be the reason they don't continue DB Super series yet?
I'm just speculating here, but I think that Toei is phasing out Super's brand in favor of Daima. I've also heard from (I think it was a MasakoX video) that Toei prefers to have a show that can air weekly for at least 2 years if they plan to release a weekly anime as opposed to taking the seasonal ap...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?
Chi-Chi was an interesting returning character at the tournament just before DBZ but it was similarly great to see her develop her character in DBZ. When Resurrection F released in theaters I remember asking why couldn't Chichi or Videl contribute to the fight somehow? Even if it was just a scene o...

It's very difficult to get an idea of the Japanese fan perspective without a site translator or someone who lives in Japan contributing to the conversation.

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?
The leaps you're making are bonkers (see earlier: is this a bit?). If you're on your (at least?) third account, and you keep getting called out by multiple members for bizarre things and ultimately banned... perhaps you're the common denominator here, and that's worth considering? To an(other) earl...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?
The only true example of "forced diversity" I can think of is in regards to a relatively recent Doctor Who episode set in the 1800s where a group of British redcoat soldiers end up on Mars (long story), and among them was a black actor. Apparently, the writer Mark Gatiss objected to this ...
