Re: Frieze's role more obvious than it seems

Neko Majin deserves better than to ever be intentionally tied to Super. This, and we already have an existing template for that to boot. Just make it like the Doctor Slump episode- An unapologetically zany love letter. I would have absolutely loved this. I always felt Toriyama had a bit of resentme...

Re: Yamamoto is Back

Is this the same Kenji Yamamoto from Dragon Ball? I did a Google search for Kenji Yamamoto years ago and found another composer of the same name who's mainly famous for scoring Nintendo games. I also found a soccer player of the same name. So are you sure that you have the right guy?

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

No. Not because the old Funimation dub is good, it's absolutely not, but because we're too far separated from the original airings for it to matter anymore. There would be no money in it for Crunchyroll, and with network TV losing viewers each year there wouldn't be much point in broadcasting it sin...

Re: unpopular opinion: kenji yammoto should have never got fired

I had a weird experience when I first listened to the album "Dragon's Kiss" by Marty Friedman (killer guitar album by the way) and I noticed that a riff that Friedman wrote sounded identical to a track from one of the cutscenes from the first PS2 Budokai game. I thought I had heard all of ...

Re: The Original Movie 14.

I think in the end it's for the best that we got the movie that we did. Battle of Gods has the feeling of a reunion with old friends that you used to hangout with, but haven't seen in some time. It's just a warm and comfortable feeling. It's also got the best balance I think of the canon movies in t...

Re: Did the editor veto of 17 and 18 being the arc villains keep her alive

It's possible, but Dragon Ball has a history of at least half of the bad guys becoming good guys. So there was a high likelihood of it happening anyway. Sure some are brutally iced like General Red, Tao Pai Pai, Demon Piccolo (although he got reincarnated), Raditz, Nappa, Cell, etc, but probably aro...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy

I'm mainly referencing the site's old review of Z Kai vol. 1 where Mike posed the question: (paraphrasing) 'why are some attack names proper Japanese nouns while's other's are changed to English translated equivalents?' I'm just wondering where we should draw the line as to what should be translated...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy

After reading all the pages of this thread, yeah I can agree that Kai’s dub was, at worst, a 9/10 in accuracy. You aren’t blatantly being misled by the storytelling though like with the old FUNi dub. Small talk moments that change it up here and there isn’t enough to annoy me. With Kai, you aren’t ...

Re: I'll be perfectly honest, I really don't like Gohan (or Broly).

I like Gohan in concept, (a fighter who hates fighting in a world of martial artists and super villains) but he was never my favorite character in the story. PlagueofGripes made a really solid video on his issues with Gohan as a character and why he felt that Gohan doesn't work as a lead character. ...

Re: Is Super on its way out?

So apparently the Super manga is taking a break in lieu of Toriyama's passing. The wording didn't make it clear if it is just for the next month or indefinite. We'll see where the manga's production goes from here.

Re: Is Super on its way out?

Not to dump on anyone who enjoys the manga, but to be honest it feels like the manga has outlived its purpose. The manga seems more like it's a curiosity to most people that I've interacted with online and people I know personally haven't even read more than a couple chapters if at all. That's actu...

Re: Is Super on its way out?

wasn't the Super manga originally meant to advertise the anime? It was, that's the ironic thing. The Super manga carried on and effectively defeated its own purpose. Conversely the Super anime went on indefinite hiatus and now it will have to go back to tradition if Moro and Granolah are adapted (w...

Re: Is Super on its way out?

I don't think so, anime is meant to promote manga in Japan, so since the former still has the 'Dragon Ball Super' name it would be unwise to rebrand it. The Battle of Gods and Resurrection F storylines were rebranded, likely because Super wasn't a thing when they were being made, but once Super was...

Art and politics go together like peanut butter and jelly. Anyone who has study art history (like myself) would know this. A lot of people only see on what is on the surface level and not anything else. Like these examples https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/419/592/211.png https://i.k...

Is Super on its way out?

This is all pure speculation on my part, but is the Super brand being phased out moving forward? With Daima releasing this fall Toei/Shueisha would want to put their focus on promoting the new brand. Also since its run finishing in 2018 the Super anime never returning to Television. Most likely in f...

Re: Dragon Ball and Centrism disguised as "A Desire for works to stop being political"

Even something as simple as the hair color of Super Saiyans was a product of the external politics of creating a weekly manga. Toriyama claimed he made it golden blonde to save time that he or his assistant would have to spend inking the hair black so they could have a more efficient work schedule....

I really don't understand how people easily torpedo their careers using social media. No matter what you believe, you should be able to know that those statements are at the very least controversial. Not to mention, using politics is a good way to alienate half of your potential audience in the US....

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2

if Pioneer got the show in this hypothetical then it probably would've had a dub similar to the Pioneer DVD release of movies 1-3, but for the series as a whole. Not perfect, but absolutely better than what we got. The plan originally was for Funimation to produce the edited TV episodes with Pionee...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2

I would imagine that Dragon Ball would’ve most likely received a heavily edited and Americanized dub regardless of who got the license back in the 90s. That was the norm for anime geared towards a younger audience at the time. It depends who had the license back then. If Viz or Pioneer pick it up, ...
