Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
I mean your choices are
Goku dominates all his opponents
Goku gets his ass beat then comes back stronger than ever necessitating everyone waiting for Goku in the interim
Goku is indisposed of some inconvenience and everyone has to wait for Goku.
In a series about getting stronger and ...

Re: How do you feel about the trope where everyone waits for Goku?
To answer OP, the trope is WAY older than the Nappa fight. Goku first did it against Blue when the latter was about to smash Kuririn’s skull in with a boulder, and then the first really famous example was against Piccolo Daimao, where Goku literally knocked Drum’s eyes out of the sockets.

Re: Does Goku play up his innocence and ignorance?
In my opinion, Super actually didn’t exaggerate Goku’s stupidity as much as it did his immaturity and brattiness.
He acts way more like a spoiled child in Super than in anything before which has the effect of him looking more stupid since it gets on the nerves of everybody in a way that never ...

Re: Could Dr. Gero have been inspired by Dr. Robotnik?
No chance whatsoever. Apart from the dates being far too close, what do the two even have in common besides being mad scientists who deal with robotic creations?

Re: How many forms could be cut?
Oozaru is essential, and I shouldn’t have to explain why.
Kaio-Ken (if even considered a form) is an extremely well developed concept that honestly should have gotten more screen time than it did. It’s one of the few “forms” that actually has very tactile consequences to its use.

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I find the fight between the non-Goku characters and Freeza to be less him “playing with his food” and more just plain incompetence, particularly when he’s constantly getting blindsided and getting the shit beaten out of him until he decides it’s time to transform again, so he can comfortably ...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I... partially agree, I guess? I think the story actually benefits from having Freeza able to freely transform for more power, with him being the primary setter of that particular trend (Zarbon being its herald) before it became overdone. But I do agree that having four separate forms was waaaay ...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I wouldn't mind if Freeza transformed from his first form right into his fourth. The second and third form were pretty useless. If Freeza just shed his armor and shell to go into his fourth form, I think that would be cool.
I think doing that would completely ruin the impact of the fourth ...

Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I feel that Toriyama making Freeza able to transform was one of his largest mistakes during the Namek storyline.
The concept introduced a bunch of negative aspects to the conflict; it padded the fight out excessively with what was essentially a bunch of pointless content with segments that ...

Re: How would the series change if Goku kept his tail?
I've always thought there was something slightly odd about the way that the Oozaru transformations in the series were spaced out. Goku's first two transformations at the Pilaf Castle and 21st Tenkaichi Budokai were fairly close together, then the series goes an eternity without any Oozaru ...

How would the series change if Goku kept his tail?
This is one of those things I’ve always thought about, since I was always disappointed in Toriama removing Goku’s tail since it was such an integral part of his design, and it feels like a loss. The introduction of the Saiyajins removed a lot of the mystique about why Goku had the tail, but it was ...

Re: At what point in the story did the characters look and feel their most powerful?
No contest, it was the Saiyajin saga. The way their chi and power was displayed had such an intensity to it that exists nowhere else in the series. Goku going kaioken x3 and the beam struggle between Goku and Vegeta feel truly apocalyptic and like the place hosting their fight could completely break ...

Re: Who is Goku's most important mentor?
Son Gohan is by far the most important mentor. If it wasn’t for him, Goku would have been a completely different person. Goku likely would have fighting skill nonetheless, but it’s clear that Son Gohan taught him all the basics of his fighting style and his obsession with martial arts which would ...

Re: How Would you Rewrite the Piccolo Daimao arc?
I'll never understand why people have a problem with the Ultra Divine Water, at least the anime version anyway.
It's not just a cheap powerup. Goku has to risk his life for it, and he goes through hell during the process. The anime also adds in the journey leading up to it, and has Goku confront ...

Re: Most Overrated Character (Besides Goku and Vegeta)?
I really can’t believe the conversation surrounding Kuririn turned into if he’s a “simp and white Knight” or not. He’s about the furthest thing from that.
First of all, there’s obviously an implication that he has a crush on 18 when he destroys the remote, but it also comes off to me as a general ...

Re: How Would you Rewrite the Piccolo Daimao arc?
Perhaps, Goku goes into a coma, and then we see the world plunge into a dystopian shithole for a few weeks while the rest of the gang tries (and fails) to fend things off. Then, when Goku wakes up, he's ready to jump back into battle...and THAT'S when Kami shows up and is like "I'm afraid I can't ...

How Would you Rewrite the Piccolo Daimao arc?
Hullo, my first post here. I’ve been a big DB fan for several years, particularly of everything up to Freeza. Probably my favourite stretch of the series is the 23rd TB through the Saiyajin stuff, but the Piccolo Daimao arc has always fascinated me for all that it tries and fails to do.
