In classic Dragon Ball I think there are “only” 5 main story lines, with thematic overarching plot lines and character arcs, as opposed to the lists with many different sagas and arcs. What do you think?

I agree. I do think however that Super added a few nice things to the lore:
- Beerus, Whis
- Super Saiyan God / Super Saiyan Blue
- Universe 6 vs 7
- Bringing back Freeza as a recurring antagonist
- A new interpretation of Broly, as a potential third character in the Goku/Vegeta rivalry.
- Future ...

I think multiple subseries focusing on the different aspects of the lore will be the way to go in the future once Toriyama retires. I don't doubt Toyotarou will handle the main Goku & co plot while Toei will handle various subseries focusing on fan favorites like Freeza, Bardock, Trunks and so on ...

Now I think the biggest problem would be to get fans to agree on where and how to continue after Cell saga... I mean... taking Super in consideration? the way I see you did. And what about Original DB? I mean I would like the story to start at DBZ times because DBZ is what got the franchise global ...

Just don't repeat the same arcs because people would get bored.
