Re: What is your opinion about the artistic style of Dragon Ball Super?

It looks very well done, but I don’t like looking at it. The limitations of cel animation always created a more pleasing image to my eye. It’s entirely subjective, I guess, and while I recognize this might be quality animation, I find it overpowers my viewing experience.

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

I don't think home video was a thing, at least not for TV back then, so I don't know why anyone would feel the need to hold on to the audio masters. I’m sure I’m not having an original thought, but: home video wasn’t a thing, however reruns certainly were. For some bizarre reason, the Betacam tapes...

Re: General "Canon/Filler" Debate/Discussion

The anime could have taken one of two routes in adapting the manga. On one hand they could loosely adapted the source material, polished it up a bit, shaken some stuff around. The other option, which Toei chose for this anime, was to adapt every single panel from the manga and evert single line of d...

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

What’s this about F minor? Call me a rube, but only someone with perfect pitch is really going to notice which minor key a piece is in, or someone who has been trained to associate certain frequencies to with certain moods according to the musical tradition (which is entirely subjective).

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

If there’s hate for it among dub fans, we can’t deny they have some good reasons to feel affronted. The Orange Brick dub is not the uncut version of what they saw on CN. People all have their own reasons for wanting to go back and watch the show. Some fans just want to see the old bad dub, but Funim...

Probably the Japanese footage, which had a higher bitrate and sharper footage.
DBoxes 1-5 were softer than the Japanese DVDs, which was bonkers. Did we ever figure out why? Presumably it was Funimation’s fault, since the problem abruptly stopped with Box 6 and 7.

Re: Mexican Blu-ray for GT Special?

probably not soon We’re far more likely to get HD stuff from Funimation than Toei. I’ll bet that the film master of the GT special will sit in storage for another hundred years until the building burns down or gets swallowed up by an earthquake, with not a soul caring that it was there or touching ...

Most likely, Toei just forgot to transfer it, and/or decided it'd be cheaper to use the tape.
I guess that’s what I meant. It’s as good as nonexistent.

Re: How would you improve DB going forward?

I haven’t seen Super, but I disagree with the OP’s implication that beam struggles are not an improvement over hand to hand combat. It was a natural progression which was latent since Goku’s first Kamehameha. If characters went back to using classical martial arts, it would not be believable, unless...

Re: Mexican Blu-ray for GT Special?

Does a film master even exist for the special? I know on the Dragon Box it’s just the digi-beta they sent to the TV station. Can’t imagine that looks good upscaled.

Re: Team Four Star's influence on Dragon Ball's revival

No one here as far as I know, but I have read PLENTY of arguments from even libertarians saying they should be done away with entirely. AFAIK it’s only libertarians saying that. Considering the pros and cons of a certain restriction of natural human freedom is anathema to anarcho libertarians. So, ...

Re: How would you felt if all people on Earth found out about everything that was happening regarding Z fighters?

Once Raditz arrived, Goku and co stopped involving regular people and non-fighting outsiders in his adventures. As a result, to the audience, the population of earth appears more and more braindead. The people of the world during the Red Ribbon or Piccolo Daimao arcs are sympathetic. Think the King,...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

Looks like he used the “select” tool and adjusted each major solid color manually. You can still see the original Dragon Box green outlining Vegeta’s hair, because his threshold setting for a solid color was not strong enough.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

If so that's bizarre, as it includes footage from the BLT dub, the Saban dub, and the unaltered Funimation dub. It also includes clips of the original in-house DB movie 2 dub (predates season 3). They were really scraping the bottom of the barrel for og DB content, but all they had was thirteen BLT...

How did Dr. Mu have a Dragon Ball in his head?

Logically, it could only have gotten in there pretty recently, but the viewer only discovers it’s in there when Baby crushes his head and reveals that he programmed Dr. Mu. The implication is Baby put the Dragon Ball in his head along time ago. Any official word on this?

Re: Regarding the releases of the original "Dragon Ball" TV adaptation - particularly the "Dragon Box"?

The American DVDs. Specifically the ‘ Sagas’ release . They’re available used on the internet. Like other early DVDs, they are poorly encoded and so they don’t look very good in motion. Edit: The website says these DVDs don’t use dual layer, which means that they have half the bit-rate of the season...

Re: Regarding the releases of the original "Dragon Ball" TV adaptation - particularly the "Dragon Box"?

They look nicer than the old DB doubles sets in motion, and they look better than the blue bricks in colors and texture. It seems that funimation has never gotten film masters for DB. They’ve been using the same digital standard def tapes since the beginning. This transfer looks passable, and the co...

Re: FUNi's SE and JPN BGM Broadcast quality?

Why did Toei retain separate music and effects for all of Dragon Ball and Z, but not the voice actor performances? You could say didn't need the voices because they never really intended to do reruns or a home release, but did they really anticipate foreign dubs even at the start of DB?

Re: DBGT Japanese OST Complete

I adore this score! It's true the budget was surely less than for Kikuchi, but the composer has real genius. The whole score is very fitting for GT's attempt to be a swan song for Dragon Ball. Things GT did superbly: music, voice acting, colors, art direction, story ideas, Pan. Things GT fumbled: im...
