Re: DBGT Japanese OST Complete

I adore this score! It's true the budget was surely less than for Kikuchi, but the composer has real genius. The whole score is very fitting for GT's attempt to be a swan song for Dragon Ball. Things GT did superbly: music, voice acting, colors, art direction, story ideas, Pan. Things GT fumbled: im...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Composer" Shuky Levy accused of attempted murder by Sarah Brown

Oh. I didn’t even think Shuki Levy was a real person lol. It doesn’t sound like a real name to be for some reason. I assumed it was a pseudonym for Wasserman.

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster

I dunno if the 480p Dragon Box would fare better under this filter than the HD Kai footage. Seems like it’s better to take the highest resolution (admittedly for filler scenes this would still be the DBoxes) and go from there.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

The price of these sets is very far removed from being dictated by supply and demand. The second hand market for the item will not be affected by a 12.5% increase in stock (Setting aside that the items are not entirely interchangeable) because online seller will be significantly marking it up, proba...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I laud the users of this board for sticking to your guns after a decade, and not giving in the temptation of filesharing. At least publicly. But its existence is precisely why physical media is long in decline, and no one will ever put as much effort into a home release of Dragon Ball Z as Toei did ...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster

We have to admit that only in a very rare number of cases is intentional detail (so, not little air bubbles and grit in the cel paint, though those are very nice to see) obscured when the 16mm film is transferred to well-encoded 480p. If they transferred the film to 1080p and you displayed it on you...

Re: How DBZ on Cartoon Network worked? Please help explain

I think what makes it look so violent is Raditz’s mouth. It’s hard to tell from the still that he’s coughing up blood. It rather looks like he’s gotten some teeth knocked out and his mouth is all cut up, which is much more violent (inasmuch as it’s something nasty that could happen in real life) as ...

Re: How DBZ on Cartoon Network worked? Please help explain

Thanks for the input so far, guys. I figured a lot of this is in the main site news backlog, but I figure a few people with good recall could answer the questions in a more timely and accurate manner than if I attempted to scour the archives. I’ve become curious lately about the ‘original’ dub that ...

How DBZ on Cartoon Network worked? Please help explain

I didn’t watch DBZ back in the day for whatever reason, probably because a bad friend of mine liked it and I didn’t really like him. I’ve heard a few things about how the US Toonami presentation of Dragon Ball worked, and perhaps you guys can help fill in the gaps or make corrections. The first two ...

Re: "Happy" 20th Anniversary of FUNimation's DBZ Season 3 Dub!

I did not watch the show back when it first aired on Cartoon Network. However I can certainly understand that the TV dub has fans which may feel unappreciated. Most kids probably just watched the dub on TV; plus a tape here or there. The original TV dub version of the show does not really exist anym...

Re: Evidence that GT influenced Toei’s End of Z?

Looking through release dates, it looks like the anime had a two week break right after the last manga chapter was issued. Maybe they were caught by surprise by the manga ending. Still, they probably had filler stories scheduled because they weren’t anticipating the manga to end and needed to keep t...

Evidence that GT influenced Toei’s End of Z?

Toei knew that GT would follow the end of the Z anime immediately. Is there any evidence that GT affected the anime end of Z? For example, is Trunks or Pan given more emphasis here than in the manga?

Re: You watched DBZ before DB and certain characters didn't make sense

I guess the 'offscreen backstory' thing isn't so foreign to western audiences. Lord of the Rings for one was a sequel to a book that was only published twenty years later. The mysterious references to the Silmarillion in LOTR when first published had the effect of evoking a sense of a grand and expa...

You watched DBZ before DB and certain characters didn't make sense

For those who watched DBZ dubbed first into English before the original Dragon Ball anime, was there some confusion about characters like Oolong, Puar, and Karin, who are bizarre non-humans with no real explanation given for their presence? Or even Yamcha, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu: did you have a sens...

This one here. As long as Pan played a real role in GT, it was good. Once they returned to the DBZ cast, when Baby arrives on earth, it all went down hill imo. But this theme reminds of the part of Gt during which I wanted to watch the next episode.

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

I haven't been following Funimation lately and I only just saw this in my YouTube feed, but I doubt Toei will care about any of this. Funimation made up cartoon voices for DBZ characters... and recorded themselves in character for comedic effect, privately. What exactly is the stain on Funimation? I...

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

Glad to see the consensus on this here. The outrage is ludicrous. It's also clear that the final segment was recorded possibly twenty years ago, given the surfer Yamcha voice, which Sabat had dropped by the time they started dubbing Dragon Ball.

My DB BGM rips that are popular on YouTube: download

Hey guys; recently (wait... no, a few years ago in high school, oops) I had the idea to scour the 5.1 surround sound of the blue bricks and US Dragon Boxes and try to isolate clean music tracks. I shared them here back in the day, and they've been pretty successful on YouTube. I would be pleased to ...

Re: What's that BGM in the Japanese version? Read the OP!

Hello friends! I haven't been here in a while, but I consistently get more comments on my videos on my Youtube channel. For those who don't know, a few years ago I scrubbed the surround sound track to isolate as much of the unreleased bgm as I could, and organized it based on kenisu's webpage. I've ...

Re: What's that BGM in the Japanese version? Read the OP!

Glad to see you guys are still interested in this. I get comments on my videos quite often. My system for assigning numbers was one of the very earliest parts of this project, which I started several years ago. That being the case, I am no longer nearly as familiar with this music as I was then, so ...
