Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
I seriously hope they don't revert to doing fake widescreen again for future releases. There's already been two in that cropped format and it took them a while to come around to doing another 4:3 version after the Level sets came and went in 2011/2012. I think 16:9 DBZ is a thing of the past, 4:3 h...

I would rather contribute to a Kickstarter for a better home release of Z.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Aside from that, standards change over time. Just because we were ok with square pictures back when we had SD TVs and some people are still ok with that, doesn't mean most people are ok with watching a show that has huge black bars on both sides of the image, effectively not using a 4th (or more) o...

Re: How different would the dub be if Funimation was still with Saban?
So, as everyone knows, Saban cut it's syndication part to focus on Fox Kids, meaning that DBZ was halted, later, it found it's home on CN, and the rest is history, however, how different would the show be if Saban still kept the show on Syndication/ Moved it to Fox Kids , how they would have handle...

Re: Does English Dragon Ball need higher profile actors?
Nah. If the Ghibli english dubs prove anything, it's that successful actors talents do not always translate into voice acting. It is a different beast altogether. With the exception of Spirited Away, most of the Ghibli Dubs are mediocre. Not to get too off-topic, but what makes you think so? Spirit...

Re: DBZ Creative Products/Filipino Dub "Greatest Rivals" HQ
In hindsight, it's interesting to hear these dubs feature both Sauza with a foreign English accent and Cooler with voice modulation, albeit throughout the films instead of just in certain forms. Could be a coincidence, but it makes me wonder if Funimation ever got a hold of these back in the day? I'...

Since the Levels came out, I've almost always purchased Funimation Dragon Ball releases used. I've purchased other series and movies released by them here and there from Right Stuf, but not much.

Re: Without rewritting the Buu saga, could in either Super or Gt Gohan take back the lead role?
The complaints I've seen are that it's too prententious for a shonen and that most of its villains/arcs are recycled from other works which, imo, are fair criticisms. Personally I love how navel gazy HxH is. Reading it, I really got the impression that Togashi is trying to work out his own feelings...

Re: Without rewritting the Buu saga, could in either Super or Gt Gohan take back the lead role?
Toriyama (or his editor at the time) already got cold feet with Gohan once, and I see no evidence of anything like that ever being tried again. As someone upthread mentioned, there's just no discernible interest in that type of direction for the character. I know a lot of DB fans have mean things to...

Re: Thoughts on a potential Netflix series.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have massive reservations about live-action adaptations of anything because the crews involved tend to have absolutely no understanding of traditional animation or the techniques it employs. They don't even attempt to pay homage to any of that in any kind...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Meanwhile Avatar TLAB is getting a good looking 15th anniversary steelbook set. Hopefully, they remastered the series because they could use an upgrade over the old Blu-rays. https://images2.static-bluray.com/reviews/16978_38_1080p.jpg Not to derail the thread too much more, but the weird edge enha...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
It's interesting how the watery line work on from the Cell Game that's present on the Blu-ray sets are also present on the 30th Anniversary sets. And what's this I've read on Twitter about Funi adding fake grain on top of the footage as a form of damage control? They did the same thing for Cowboy B...

Re: Rumor: Disney Developing New Live-Action Dragon Ball Movie With Asian Cast
Taika Waititi or the Wachowskis could do it. Besides them, I have my doubts that anyone else in Hollywood could pull this off. Dead on arrival. From a production stand point it is no different than approaching something like the Avengers. That's what I meant. Don't try to pretend it would be any dif...

This is seriously fascinating technology, but there are definitely a ton of kinks that still need to be worked out before it's a viable upscaling option.

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release
After a certain point you could argue it's preference, but to me it's immediately obvious to me that in spite of efforts to work in a 16:9 format, the majority of the animation works better in its full-frame counterpart. FWIW, the majority of the movies were storyboarded for fullscreen: https://pbs...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release
They're all significantly better experiences in 4:3. How do you figure? Seems like personal preference to me. The extra footage is neat, but being that they're post-Academy theatrical films, I personally prefer them in 1.85:1 and don't think the cropping is arbitrary. Barring some screenings and re...

Yeah, get ready for the release to be 16:9 regardless...
Makes no sense to me, aren't the type of people still buying physical in 2019 usually the same type of people who would want the original aspect ratio? Cater to your market! Why is this so hard!?
