Re: AB Video to release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
It is awkward and bizarre we live in a world, where foreign release has SUPERIOR audio quality than domestic (Japan).
Especially considering Toei have been focused on preventing reverse importation of their properties for decades.
Out of curiosity, has anyone here purchased the AB Video ...

Dragon Ball Z: Best Collection Vinyl Set - Any Good?
Since recently getting a turntable as a gift, I've been looking at different records to purchase for my small rec area in my home. This one that recently popped up, the "Best Collection," seems like it has a lot of what I like; does anyone here have it and can you tell me if it's a decent purchase?

Re: How did you get to know the world of dragonball?
Hoo, boy...let's see...
My first exposure to the name "Dragon Ball Z" was through Electronic Gaming Monthly - Mr. EX talks about this in the Akira Toriyama retrospective podcast, but it was very similar for me. Import game shops would advertise in the back of that magazine, and each month I'd see a ...

Re: Old Members Coming Back
Yay, back in the saddle!
For me personally, I forget when I was last here. I think I stepped away from the fandom in general for some time for my own health and wellbeing; social media and forums consumed me at times, and fandoms in general are toxic as heck. That said, the DaizEX/Kanzenshuu group ...

Re: Back in day, what were some of the best fansubs?
Hmm, the one GT tape I have was, I believe, subbed by "E. Monsoon." I could be totally wrong. I haven't watched that tape in years, but I remember they had a big CG logo at the front of the tape. And, yeah, they were definitely a bit liberal with the swearing, even throwing some fairly heavy ...

Man, oh man...this takes me back.
I echo the folks who said Ctenosaur Video; they would tend to be a bit rough with some language choices, but they seemed to be consistently decent. The majority of episodes on tape I had were from the NGN broadcast, though. The episodes I had began with Goku ...

Re: Questions regarding Syndication era bumpers for DBZ
I'm fairly certain that THOSE bumpers were only used during the first season of the Ocean Dub. During the second season, those Doc Harris bumpers aired along with another featuring Peter Kelamis as Goku.
If I had to guess, I'd imagine that those bumpers you linked to weren't included because of the ...

Re: First Dragon Ball movie you saw in Japanese?
Oh, I love to reminisce!
Back in November of 1998, I went on a field trip to the UN with one of my high school classes. After we all took the tour, we got to walk around for a while and came upon a Sam Goody. I looked around and saw they had an anime section; they had a copy of movie 1 in a ...

Image Songs as Opening Songs...?
The other day I was listening to some of the early image songs (Moero! Dragon Soldiers and Aitsu wa Son Goku) and had a thought. Given that both of these songs were on the first Hit Song Collection CD, do you guys think it's possible that these songs (and maybe a few more from it) were, at the time ...

Re: DBZ Legends; differences of PS1 or Saturn
In all honesty, I think the Saturn version looks perfectly fine. The only exception to that is the animation for finishing moves, which look decent at best. As far as speed is concerned, it seemed to run the same as the PS1 version; the difference between the two is in the feel of the control when ...

Re: DBZ Legends; differences of PS1 or Saturn
After sitting and playing more of the Playstation version of the game, I have to say that I agree with superpope's statements regarding quickness. After getting it around '98 I played the heck out of this game on the Saturn; I can definitely feel a difference in the flow of the gameplay. For the ...

Re: DBZ Legends; differences of PS1 or Saturn
Building onto this discussion, I was curious if anyone else has run into issues with the PS1 version of the game. I've been using the dsic swap trick to get the game to boot up, but for some reason or another the audio messes up on the main menu screen as well as the introductory videos before each ...

Oh, speaking of Bret Hart...

Re: Dragon Ball and Pro-Wrestling
Well, Michaels did have a title match against Bret Hart at Survivor Series 92...perhaps that was enough for the animators to think, "Eh, let's use his likeness."
And yes, that guy hands-down wins the Mr. Satan look-alike contest. Always will no matter what.

Ryu-Ken:
Wow, I had completely forgotten about Vader's mask thing! You're absolutely right about it being pretty blatant, though that illustration almost makes him seem like a Mega Man boss.
As for Count Dante, that's just...wow...never heard of him before, but that's a pretty close likeness.

^ And this is EXACTLY why I wanted to know if there was any influence. On top of that, I nearly died after hearing that his first name was Mark; I mean, yes, the pun is the rearrangement of akuma, but the coincidence is amazing. Thanks for the answers, guys.

Dragon Ball and Pro-Wrestling
I was curious to know if Toriyama-sensei had said in any interviews whether he enjoyed or disliked professional wrestling. For some reason, I seem to recall reading years ago that he absolutely hated the stuff; I just wanted to see if there was any truth to this or if it was just another random ...

Re: Goku, Hell & GT
I see what you mean, but wouldn't it be possible that the writing team thought it would be a great idea to build upon? I guess another thing to back the theory of "can't sense ki in hell" would be Goku's shock upon seeing the oni when he fell off the Snake Road. Unless his sensing of ki wasn't that ...
