Re: If we get another home release, it needs to be in 4K "UHD"

The benefit of 4K 16mm scan is very limited compared to 35mm, but there are a few instances among commercial releases such as the 4k remaster of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre . However, it's not very realistic to scan and remaster an entire TV series consist of hundreds of episodes in 4K at this poin...

Re: Do you like Kikuchi Kai?

Kikuchi's music should have been in Kai since day one. Watching a remaster of DBZ without the original music feels odd. It would be like if the Star Wars special editions had none of the original music, and they hire Hans Zimmer to do a new music score replacement instead. Totally agreed. But they ...

Re: Ebara Masashi (Might Guy) is the new Mister Satan

At this point we are not really sure this casting is definitive and he's going to voice Mr. Satan in future anime, though. Tenshinhan was once voiced by Madono Mitsuaki in Burst Limit, but Midorikawa took over his role in Kai.

Re: What if one of these composers handled the music for the original series, Z, and Kai?

Sorry for a double post, but I looked through the last ten posts or so by you in here, and what I read was basically a repetition of "Kikuchi's music is old-fashioned and not actually that great. I wish someone else like Kōhei Tanaka had been the composer for Dragon Ball" and that's all. Tanaka is t...

Re: What if one of these composers handled the music for the original series, Z, and Kai?

Why do you people always act like Kikuchi is the only one who did orchestral music in either acceptable quantity or quality when there were tons of other people doing it back then but better and not in an outdated style? No, I've never claimed that. I said it could have been worse and become less u...

Re: What if one of these composers handled the music for the original series, Z, and Kai?

I'm not familiar with the composers you mentioned except for Kōichi Sugiyama, Nozomi Aoki, and Kenji Kawai, but anyway, if it had not been Kikuchi, the score could have been some cheap-ass synth music that sounds heavily '80s-ish. Kikcuhi's music does sound dated in a way, but as a result, its conse...

Geez, this is nothing but a really absurd decision. I'm going to send a protest letter to Dragon Ball Room in Shueisha. I'm not joking.

Re: Original Dragon Ball anime to be released on Blu Ray in Spain

So, according to these sample clips, it seems that they chose to slow down the dub audio originally recorded and edited in 25fps. Though some voices sound too deep with this solution, I think this is better than time-stretching with the pitch kept intact, which sounds very unnatural.

Re: FUNi's SE and JPN BGM Broadcast quality?

It is weird that the M/E sounds better in some dubs that use the masters from Funi such as Hindi and Malay. Maybe Funi has got another source with non-separate M/E audio?

Re: Artificial Human 27, 28 and 29 by Toyotaro

These are nothing but jokes about the number of typhoons. In Japan, it's more common to call typhoons by numbers than specific names, so every year, some of them are always called the same as the artificial humans in DB, like 17号 (Jûnana gô) and 18号 (Jûhachi gô).

I haven't heard of such a rumor and that sounds very unlikely. I've heard about a total recast, but this is also highly improbable at this point.

Re: Manga Logo Catalogue

Dope! Do you have a date on when that first poster was put out? As what I added in the last post suggests, it must have been designed in the earliest stage of the production, so my guess is late 1988. I've also noticed that the color scheme of Goku's dougi looked like that of the original DB, which...

Re: Manga Logo Catalogue

Here's the earliest usage of the horizontal DBZ logo. It's a poster made to advertise DBZ as the new series. This horizontal logo is often referred to as "later" or "modern" one, but it's actually one of the varieties that did exist from the beginning. Maybe it was the one designed first, because th...

Re: Manga Logo Catalogue

Thanks for gathering all these logos and information. Toriyama worked for an advertising design company before becoming a manga artist and he's skilled at lettering, so my guess is that he designed a lot of these logos himself. https://i.imgur.com/YBePL6Fm.png Easily and inarguably the most famous l...

Re: It's actually amazing that DBZ was successful on Japanese TV

When I see this kind of discussions, I always think the Western fans tend to ignore how the DB franchise was tremendously successful solely with the original manga. Actually, the manga was always the biggest thing back then. With the serialization ending over 20 years ago and countless times of rebr...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Can someone explain why they used DNR to remove all the grain and then add a layer of fake grain on top? Because I don't understand at all. My guess is that their restored masters are already smeared out from the beginning and they had to redo all the restorations from the beginning for a better re...

Re: Looks like Japan have finally ditched the Son "Gokou" spelling!

I always assumed Majin Vegeta was okay because of Majin Kaioh in Fist of the North Star. He's not literally a magical or demonic being, but he considers himself so evil and powerful that he's given himself that title. Plus Vegeta was influenced by Babidi's magic, albeit in a limited fashion, so to ...

Re: The image of the Dragon Ball Z Anime restored with the 16mm Masters?

There is no project. That tweet just took an image Kei17 posted in another thread and posted it sans context. Apparently a collector in Japan owns an original print of an episode, and shared this image with Kei. As Kei states in that thread, not all episodes are in collectors' hands. In fact, it's ...

Re: Original Dragon Ball anime to be released on Blu Ray in Spain

Putting aside the problem with upscaled pseudo-HD footage, it is very remarkable that the Valencian dub is receiving a home video release for the first time ever (aside from the newly produced one for BoG Special Edition.) After Canal Nou shut down in 2013, the master tapes of the Valencian dub have...
