IMO, Ginyu was a member of Frieza's race, but a mutant. Instead of having a bunch of different transformations, he was born with the ability to bodyswap.

I never read or saw anything that would say he's an android. Especially since he apparently had a soul that went to Hell in the anime. Then how come we never see him again? The only thing I can think of is that it's sort of like the Terminator; they have flesh and blood over a metal endoskeleton.
