Re: Why are we still stuck in the "10 years" period?

I doubt that there would be more of Goten and Trunks. Toriyama seemed wholly undisinterested in writing them and the other production committee members seemed disinterested in asking him to include more for them to do.

Pretty much. Toyo is like the first person in 30 years among all the ...

Re: Why are we still stuck in the "10 years" period?

If i remember correctly, someone (Torishima?) had to "convince" Toriyama to age Goku into adult for 23rd Budokai.

It was the opposite, Toriyama was the one who had to convince him and the editorial department at Jump, as they didn't want to make such a drastic change to the main character. He ...

Re: Why are we still stuck in the "10 years" period?

There was an interview conducted back in 2004 (I think) between Toriyama and Nakatsuro (I think), and Toriyama said that if he were to ever write new stories for Dragon Ball, he'd set them during the 10 year gap due to him believing that the characters were too old at the end of Z. The 2008 OVA ...

Why are we still stuck in the "10 years" period?

Going to make this simple:

In 2008, there was a brilliant idea of having a short side story taking place in the 10 years period between the defeat of Majin Boo and the Tenkaichi Budokai as seen in the Jump Special.

Fast forward to 2025, and it seems like we are still figuring out what else that ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

That makes sense. I notice they even censored 17’s gun pointed at the elderly man into his fist even though they kept Gero squeezing that one guy’s head off.

One thing I liked about the manga more is the gore.

In the anime the guy in the car who Android 20 choked didn't have his head ...

Re: "Goku is scared of Raditz" dub comparisons

I love the idea that Son Goku can be shown as scared; more often than not, he is excited, and sometime the fear is what excites him, too; I think Raditz was the one of the few, if not only person, that had Goku absolutely scared shitless. Add on top the fact that Raditz being his brother probably ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

I noticed in the Viz translation when Freeza realizes Gohan is a Saiyan he said he killed all the Saiyans except Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz 30 years ago, even though it should be 20. Is this a Viz flub or was that in the original Japanese too?

Manga: 30 years.
Anime: 20 years.

"Goku is scared of Raditz" dub comparisons

I got this video by channel user The Anime Linguist recommended to me in my feed where he highlights Goku's "Wakuwaku" catchphrase and how it affected his confrontation with Raditz and compares the original Japanese version with FUNimation's dubs and the LATAM dub

That's great. Did you ask him to make his characteristic Freeza laugh?
I don't typically ask for lines, plus he already did it on the public stage.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 20 - Official Discussion Thread

Do I care this series isn't canon to Super? No.

Do I care I didn't get the plot points everybody was sure were set up? No.

Do I care the ending wasn't the same cliche movie-style ending? No.

Do I care I had a fun time with Daima? Hell yeah. Not only this series was enjoyable, but I also loved how ...

Went to sleep last night before the airing time so naturally I woke up with Anime News Network of all beings spoiling the surprise

Neva is slowly starting to become my favorite character in this story. He became a wild card and not easy to predict what he can do or for which side he'll stick with.

I thought it was a fun episode, but yet again it spent too long on this (not) little side adventure when it opened with the deactivation of Warp.

Re: How Good were the old Ocean Cast?

Outside Dragon Ball I'm more used to the Canadian cast in cartoon shows ranging from the 80s to early 2000s and they just hit differently from the Texas, LA or New York voice actors. Their vocal performance always seemed more natural and less stilted but it could all be from their background coming ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 12 - Official Discussion Thread

To me Super Saiyan 3 is like the Kaioken. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages so makes more sense to ignore it and focus on other forms more suitable for long-term combat.

Is that even true of Kaioken? They certainly would have lost to Vegeta if Goku didnt have it

Goku still lost ...
