Seiyuu means voice actor. :|

Oh wait. You're making a pun on the kanji? I'm going to go sit on my confusion chair for a few minutes.

If somebody really wants to modernize the show, they should reanimate, shot for shot, the Bad Animation Days.

That would be new.

Yajirobe is a samurai, right? And those are known for their fighting prowess even in times of peace.

Even the fat ones.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 11

As for a potential HD release from Toei, with how lazy and complacent they have been with licensing the 16:9 FUNimation DVD footage through-out the English speaking market, how can any of us be so sure they won't take a look at how the cropped footage has been selling better than the 4:3 footage an...

I'm not sure what the tea mug/cups (receptacles?) are called in Japan. They're sort of the shape of mugs, but smaller and without handles.

That and Giru is a motherFUCKing robot. Which most likely means he has no boy-parts. Or "winky" as old Vegetto EX would say.

Re: Is Dragon Ball a misogynist series?

Alright you just took that to a weird place. Sex is a thing that happens. Getting freaked out because a culture has a higher tolerance threshold of nudie mags is a thing that is silly. The most important thing a person can learn from traveling or studying other cultures is that morals are dogshit. :...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Unfortunately there wasn't a four star ball :( lots of every other balls though. I'll bet. :D I bought a second copy of Funimation single Great Saiyaman - Opening Ceremony. The first copy I bought came with the disc already lose, and it had been ruined by rattling around in the case. This second co...

Re: Is Dragon Ball a misogynist series?

A good question to ask is if ANY media made for young boys ISN'T misogynist.

I don't think most of it is that harmful, and some things from Dragon Ball that I would consider very egregious can be chalked up to cultural differences.

I always assumed the wild guitar noodling on the opening track was yours, but I guess that's before you were with the studio?

The takeaway here is that nobody does a shot for shot reframing, since stuff like that sneaks by.

Hrmm. If it's never going to be perfect, we might as well use the original version eh. ;)

Re: Seriously, why was the Westwood Dub so bad?

I consider the Funimation broadcast version as a single unit. The first two seasons with Ocean cast, and the rest with in-house cast.

And that's the dub version I like best, the version that includes weird voice acting and evolving voices and actors. :)

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Basically there is damage in almost every frame. It's super grainy, but that's just how film works, and I think grain is a good look for Dragon Ball Z. It's not film. Until the Season Sets, FUNimation used digibeta tape masters for all of their series (and still do for GT and DB). That's mostly why...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 11

I doubt it. They slapped the orange brick audio on the Dragon Boxes, and did so for the level sets as well. It seems they'll only use their orange brick audio mix in the future, and they see no real reason for them to do otherwise. Yeah it is highly unlikely they will add the voice filters back in ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 11

Buu and 19 had filters over their voices. #19 had the weird robotic filter, and Buu had a sort of deeper sound. The redub removed those sound filters and also a few added sound effects that were part of the Faulconer Prod. track (ie: the "hmmmahhh!" sound that was added to the instantaneou...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Well, I just got from Amzon the first two DBZ dvd box sets. I have all of the DBZ box sets on VHS tapes but I want them all of dvd. I know I might be wasting my money on the first release of the anime, but it's what I grew up on. The Pioneer DVD sets? They're a pretty nice trip down memory lane, an...
