Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but... Do you mean like how each language Latinizes it in their own way? Cuz, I think for the most part, the names are the same so long as they aren't purposefully changed or misunderstood (which was probably only FUNi for the most part). I don't really have...

Re: Poll about your preferences (manga, anime, games, music...)
I would prefer tankōbon-sized comics rather than the size Viz uses. Viz's comics are DVD-sized, but I think the tankōbons are BD sized. Right? Anyway, for how thin they are, I always thot the smaller size of the Japanese comics was better. Plus, it IS a Japanese comic, so why not leave 'em all the s...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much
The art style is very 80s. Well, at least the part of the comic written in and around the 80s. It kinda starts fading away during the Saiyan arc in 1988 till it reaches full-on pointyness.

Re: People who have managed to have extremely low contact with the manga.
Hah! I've never even SEEN all of Dragon Ball. Well, the Z portion, I mean. At least, not in Japanese. I got up to the Majin-Boo arc of the animation. As for the comics, tho, I think I only got to... maybe the Demon King Piccolo arc. And I own it all , too. Haha. But my reason is that I'm trying to f...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
Could "Altered humans" or "Altered beings" be a substitute for Jinzoningen? With Goku, would it be prononced "Go(pronounced like the Japanese say "go") - Kuu"? That's how I usually say it, but I'm unsure. Saying to myself to get the hang of it, so the "n...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
First syllable is still emphasised as Scott says it (possibly they emphasise the second syllable in the dub itself, we don't know), but much like Kaioken, they actually use the correct sounds; "Nah" as in the English word "Nah", with an Ah sound as in "Ah yes," or &quo...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
Btw, is it "Nah(ar)-mek" or "Naw-mek"? I tried doing research but it was very confusing, still confused on how to put emphasis on the "mek". I checked the manga, Viz version, and Trunks did clarify that they were Cyborgs, after calling them Androids, but I don't think ...

DNA, perhaps you typoed, but you have it listed that the first VHS came out before the game. Also, I don’t know if that even matters. They were clearly made at the same time. It probably IS most likely that Ishikawa was the composer for the game, and that his music got chiptuned by someone else for ...

Re: Could Launch and Nameless Namekian be two souls in one body?
I think when the nameless son of Katats split his body and soul into two, the two souls remain as separate in death as they are in life. Same with the versions of Majin-Boo . However, Lunch is likely just one soul with split personality disorder, with a little cartoonish flair to exaggerate the diff...

Re: "Funi took terminology straight from Banda"i thing is true or not
Same thing as with the Malaysian/Speedy dubs of the movies as well among the many other bizarre translations in those, because having it translated in that form as well as Saiyas which is also alternatively used in others at times just sounds plain weird. Even though technically sort of correct in ...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
Oop, thanks for clearing that up, gonna change that now. With Son Goku, it would be pronounced "So-n", right? Not "Su-n"? Yes. That's exactly it. Sun is pronounced like the English word " soon ", and Son is pronounced as the English words " sown " and " ...

I didn't say that hitotachi is not a word. I said that I don't think it is used in the manner you described. That link doesn't really say much. As far as I know, hitotachi is not used for race or ethnicity. I don't understand why you continue to make these kinds of comparisons. They don't amount to...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
Okay, I get it, Sun Wukong, the character Son Goku is loosely based on, though why is it that before it was referred 'properly' to Son Goku and now Sun Goku? If they think this is what being accurate is, then why is everything so inconsistent? Son Goku isn't Sun Goku, may as well call him Sun Wukon...

Re: "Funi took terminology straight from Banda"i thing is true or not
You are right that jin is not a separate word, but that doesn't really matter. It still means "people", and that's how it is commonly used. Hitotachi is not used in the manner you describe as far as I know. The connection is lost to an English audience, since they won't know what that &qu...

Re: "Funi took terminology straight from Banda"i thing is true or not
You've already lost the connection to the Japanese word by adapting "Saiya-jin" to "Saiyan". A Japanese pronunciation by that point is only forced and awkward. Sticking a consonant onto the end of saiya is no substitute for jin in this case, and ultimately signifies that this is...

Re: "Funi took terminology straight from Banda"i thing is true or not
It's an adaptation yes, but a flawed one. I don't think there is anything awkward about "Saiya", and you don't have to call them "Saiya people". And it's really no longer a Japanese word once it becomes "Saiyan". The exact origin of the word is largely irrelevant in th...

Re: Bulma had a romantic relationship with Yamcha and Vegeta at the same time?
Well, I would imagine that Bloomers is the type to not take sex too romantically. And if she wasn't in a relationship with either at the time, I doubt she'd have any qualms about simply sleeping with whichever one didn't piss her off that day.

Re: DBZ Creative Products/Filipino Dub "Greatest Rivals" HQ
The voice acting in this was pretty decent for a foreign dub, it wasn't over the top ridiculous like Big Green or incomprehensible and laughably mangled like Speedy. The only voice i thought was kind of bad is Piccolo's, it just doesn't fit him really at all. Yeah, Piccolo's is bad. And Oolong's. D...

Re: "Funi took terminology straight from Banda"i thing is true or not
Yeah, the kayo-ken one stuck around for quite a while although the Pioneer produced dub of The World's Strongest actually got it right mostly due to them having an accurate script. Then of course once later video games and eventually Kai came around FUNi finally corrected it. Though with Saiyan, in...
