Re: "Raging Blast 2" Gigantic On-Going Gaming Discussion

Hmm... how exactly did this "Raging Blast 2" discussion turn into a debate on whether the new decade began in 2010 or will begin in 2011?

Re: The Definitive "Dragon Ball Z" Collection

For "Dragon Ball Z" strictly? FUNimation's Dragon Boxes. They offer everything in its purest form possible, with the added bonus of subtitles and an English dub for the heck of it. Kai is awesome, but I wouldn't so much label it "definitive" as simply rather "the best way t...

The Definitive "Dragon Ball Z" Collection

In everyone's opinion, what is the definitive collection for the "Dragon Ball Z" anime?
It could range from any release, even the "Ultimate Uncut Releases" (though I highly doubt that will be chosen).
My choice would be Kai. The uncut dub is amazing and there's no filler.

Re: Japanese VS English (judging quality, video game choices)

I primarily stick with the dub cast for the games because they & the sub actors are saying the same lines, so the whole inacuracy thing becomes irrelavent. Add on the fact that games like Burst Limit don't have subtitles between rounds, it becomes awkward when I can't understand anything. I thi...

Re: Originally fan of the dub now a fan of the japanese version.

I remember a few years ago when Dragon Ball Z was on TV, I absolutely hated it. Maybe it was the voices, or another reason. I don't know why I hated it... so years later my little 9-year-old cousin begged me to watch the first episode of Dragon Ball (dubbed, of course) with him. So, finally, I gave ...

Re: Japanese VS English (judging quality, video game choices)

Well, see, I find the Japanese voice cast for the original Dragon Ball Z anime much better than the in-house Texas voice cast, and for many reasons. The English voice actors were not experienced with acting at the time and could not portray their character's epicness seen in the original Japanese du...

Re: Viz Media's Name Changes

That's true, I guess I never really thought about that, I really only applied that rule to Boo, not anyone else, which is pretty stupid of me... It helps to understand that there really isn't a strict rule like that at all. Katakana is mostly used to write out foreign words the way they're pronounc...

Re: Viz Media's Name Changes

I don't see what the big deal with Mister Satan is, God forbid they have to make the last 26 volumes of the manga +13 like the first 16! Well, Viz took the same approach that FUNimation did with Mr. Satan's name change, God knows why. And there are many references to Hell and some swearing in the l...

Re: Viz Media's Name Changes

Ultimately, I see what Viz was going for, replacing names so that their puns would have the same effect on English audiences as they would have had in Japanese. Preserving intent and effect rather than the actual name. I suppose it's basically the same thing Nintendo of America does with Pokemon. B...

Re: Viz Media's Name Changes

They use H e rcule instead of Mr. Satan and use Pocus instead of Pui Pui. And I'm pretty sure Boo is a correct way of spelling his name. No, Boo is not the correct way to spell his name. See, the way you spell his name in Japanese is the combination of the Katakana characters "Bu" and &qu...

Re: Viz Media's Name Changes

Quoted from one of my old threads: DB vol. 02 - Carrot Master - Toninjinka - His original name translates to "Rabbit who turns people into carrots" DB vol. 05 - Full Metal Jacket - Sergeant Metallic DB vol. 05 - Sergeant Major Purple - Sergeant Major Murasaki - Murasaki does translates to...

Viz Media's Name Changes

I was searching through the Viz Translation of the DRAGON BALL manga, and I noticed some name changes from the original Japanese version in some of the later volumes. The most obvious name changes are Buu to Boo, Uub to Oob, and Vegetto to Vegerot (as addressed in episode... 28, I believe, of the Da...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

Hmm... my most recent "Dragon Ball" purchase would be "Dragon Box Z: Volume 4"... I am now done with that... but now I have to wait until February for the next "Dragon Box" release, so, just for a few laughs here and there, I am attempting to watch FUNimation's dub unti...
