Re: The Shuki Levy score

The Ocean dub's replacement music was nothing but constant, earsplitting noise. Awful. There were no melodies or leitmotifs or anything, just cacophony. Faulconer was leagues better than Levy / Wasserman / whoever it was that composed it. Well to be fair, it's just background music, not actual stan...

Re: The Shuki Levy score

So did Levy actually compose the Inspector Gadget score or was that someone else? That was definitely him. He even talks about it in interviews, unlike with Dragon Ball Z. It's only after Power Rangers that all his credits start getting questionable, especially during the late 90s/early 2000s perio...

Re: The Shuki Levy score

For the sake of being accurate, what you call "the Shuki Levy score" was actually composed by Ron Wasserman, a musician/composer most well known for providing the music to the first six seasons of Power Rangers (including the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme tune); Shuki Levy had no han...

Re: Pirating Dragon Ball (discussion)

Now, I'm not immune to this. When it comes the Westwood or Blue Water version of the series, I can relate. I can definitely see why someone would pirate. But at the end of the day, even with myself, I have to admit that yes, there's no release of those versions and yes, I'd definitely pay for them....

Re: Dragonn Ball Home Releases: Funimation vs Madman

Madman releases are PAL, early DBZ Madman singles are dub-only, and I think Pioneer's releases of the Saban DBZ episodes are missing the recaps and previews. Thanks, so basically the Madman releases are the best when it comes to the Ocean Dub since they are the most complete ones out there, what ab...

Re: Why does the ocean dub supposedly get worse after the first two seasons?

Basically, the first two seasons were done with a pretty good director, and a full original score composed by Ron Wasserman, and it was the first version of Dragon Ball Z most people who became fans before 2007 saw. I thought the score for the first two seasons still recycled Power Rangers music he...

Re: Why does the ocean dub supposedly get worse after the first two seasons?

I hear this all the time but from watching clips of the ocean android saga on youtube I can't see a noticeable drop in acting quality. The change in music played a pretty big role imo. Whereas Ron Wasserman's music helped add to the intensity of the fights, the recycled Mega-Man music just sort of ...

Re: Rarest Dragon Ball dubs

I'm pretty sure it would be based off the uncut home release since Dead Zone and World's Strongest are also the same. Remember that Toonami made edited versions of the uncut Dead Zone and World's Strongest dubs (Rock the Dragon opening and closing, but Kikuchi OST intact) and used the Saban dub for...

Commercials from 1996-1998 for syndication era DBZ

Can anyone recall any? I'm certain that the UPN/WB/Fox/Independent stations that aired the Saban dub must have had some promos for the show, since I've found some on Youtube for the earlier 1995 Dragon Ball dub that also aired in syndication, like this and this . The only things recorded off televis...

Re: Kanzenshuu Members Favorite Composers ROUND 1

From best to worst: 1. Shuki Levy and Ron Wasserman (While you can argue whether It actually fits the series or not, it just sounds good and interesting to me on purely musical terms.) 2. Peter Berring (Same as above.) 3. Akihito Tokunaga (Easily my favorite of the Japanese composers. It actually re...

Re: Question on which home media releases to buy for an "Authentic" Dub experience.

DRAGON BALL Z Saban Dub Rock the Dragon Yes. Avoid the original DVD singles for the Saban dub, as they have some additional edits. Rock The Dragon is how it was produced/aired. The only problem with it though is how it presents the Saban Tree of Might dub. If Funimation were going to be as faithful...

Re: Cartoon Network vs Local Networks (A question for people outside the USA)

To my understanding, a lot of countries didn't air Dragon Ball shows on Cartoon Network (Canada comes to mind as an English speaking example). The only place I can think of outside of the US that had Dragon Ball on CN/Toonami, as well as another channel, was Australia. But I could also be wrong abo...

New Ron Wasserman DBZ interview

For anyone who cares, I found and transcribed a portion of this interview with Ron Wasserman (composer for MMPR, X Men TAS and the first Ocean dub of DBZ), since it brings up his rarely mentioned work on DBZ, which has often been misattributed to Shuki Levy. Quite similar to what he said in another ...

Re: What if Dragon Ball aired on primetime television in America?

The average Adult would rather watch some crumby sitcom or drama show at 8pm. This explains why most prime time cartoons are sitcom-esque dramadies (King of the Hill, Simpsons etc). Fox did briefly air some of those dark-ish Marvel/Saban action cartoons in prime time, but it was always in the Friday...

Re: Why did Mark Menza's replacement score of GT not live up to my expectations?

I think the main issue was the ill-fitting and repetitive nature of Menza's music, which was entirely due to the Funimation/Barry Watson creative influence. It suddenly gave GT this very dreary, operessive atmosphere, in stark contrast to the upbeat Saturday Morning Cartoon-ish Tokunaga score which ...

Re: What if 20th Century Fox makes a animated DB Movie?

The idea of doing CGI Hollywood anime adaptions seems pretty dead after the financial disaster of the Astro Boy and Speed Racer films in the late 2000s. If 20th Century FOX did a traditional 2D film then we'd just end up with another YGO Pyramid of Light. Something which is ridiculed by mainstream c...

I wonder what the source of that clip's footage is. It looks like someone synced the Saban audio to FUNimation's crappy remastered DVD, yet the edit somehow remains intact.

I want to see the clever editing Funimation did for his trip into another dimension. All clips on Youtube are uncensored. In the edited version Guldo doesnt lose his head and all sorts of trickery from Funimation. O Kanzenshuu Community! Please help me! http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonbal...

Your preferred name for this dub?

I'm just interested to know what your preferred terminology is for the old 1996-1998 dub of DBZ's first two seasons. There were three (or four if you count Pioneer's home video distribution) companies involved with the dub, so this has led to people devising a lot of names for it, in order to help f...

FUNimation talk about how Saban made them censor the series in these links, i think both sources would qualify as reliable. http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/international-incident-6396506 http://dbzu.3gkai.com/opinions/bwatson.html (word for word transcription of an interview from an old Animerica...
