Re: College Research Paper on the Innacuracies of International Dubs, Specifically Dragon Ball - NEED CREDIBLE SOURCES

FUNimation talk about how Saban made them censor the series in these links, i think both sources would qualify as reliable. http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/international-incident-6396506 http://dbzu.3gkai.com/opinions/bwatson.html (word for word transcription of an interview from an old Animerica...

Re: Thoughts on the Legacy of Goku Trilogy soundtrack

Although LOG1's music was all original, I've always wondered if Ariel Gross took inspiration from the Shuki Levy score when creating music for the first game. While there's certainly a more up beat, hip hop influence to many of the songs, I can't help but feel there's also a slight similarity to th...

Re: Thoughts on the Legacy of Goku Trilogy soundtrack

I liked the music in all three games, especially the beautiful piano bgm Ariel Gross created for the first installment. In all honesty, i prefer it over the usual Kenji Yamamoto type stuff from that period, which in my opinion sounds kind of bland and generic.

Re: Music Composer of the 12 and 13th Movies?

As far as i'm aware, this is the complete list of people who were responsible for the music in FUNimation's various dubs of the movies DB Movie 1: Peter Berring (Most of this music was later reused on the 1995 DB dub that aired in syndication. Some pieces may have been created specifically for this ...

Re: Rank the dubs of each series

DB: 1. BLT dub : Mainly because i prefer the replacement music this dub used. It really fit the mythical ethos of Dragon Ball and gave the show a distinctly mid-90s vibe which i dig. The voice acting was very professional too. Overall it seems like there was more effort put into this dub when you co...

Re: Why was the Westwood dub so bad? (Original by tvfan721)

in-house Ocean dub of the Cell and Buu arcs I'm sorry...what? That sound like a contradiction/oxymoron to me. Just as the dub of Seasons 1 and 2 are a collaboration with Funi, the Westwood dub is a collaboration with AB Groupe. Both Funimation and AB Groupe did in-house English dubs of Dragon Ball ...

Re: Why was the Westwood dub so bad? (Original by tvfan721)

Saban had nothing to do with the Westwood dub. Wikipedia says Westwood /Ocean/Saban dub are all the same.. i mean what's the difference? its the same.. with the same voice actors and music. It's Wikipedia, anyone can edit it, and while normally this sort of thing might be reverted or at least dispu...

Re: Least favorite episode in the whole anime franchise?

This is a difficult question since the quality of the series varies greatly depending on whatever version i'm seeing. The Fake Namek and pre-Ginyu Force/post-Zarbon periods are mind-numbingly boring in concept, but the Saban dub with it's drastically different tone from the original made them watcha...

Re: Need Some Clarification on an Aspect of the Rock the Dragon Set.

I don't think episodes 3-4 ever got recorded lines in the first place, although i may be wrong. I remember on the Pioneer version of Gohan's Hidden Powers they still had Raditz saying lines like "are you nuts, we'll be killed!" and "you'll have a death worthy of a Saiyan".

Keep in mind that during the Saban dub they weren't even the one's handling music for the show, that was left to Saban and Shuki Levy. For the Westwood dub they had to cover everything themselves and do it at a rapid pace Actually it was Ron Wasserman, who wasn't even employed by Saban anymore when...

Re: Chris Sabat reveals another reason why the music was changed. (and is open to changing Super's score)

Amazingly, Sabat said he wouldn't be against altering Super's score because he thinks American's still have a different taste for music to some degree. I think the music in DBS could easily pass as a modern American soundtrack. It reminds me of the stock electronic music you hear in reality TV show...

Re: Goku's Gi orange or red?

In terms of the original TV series, it totally depends on the levels of saturation/hue on a particular release. The Orange Bricks and DB Boxes tend to have yellow, pink and green tints, which makes it appear orange. On older pre-Dragon Box releases/broadcasts it usually looks red. FUNi's 1997-2006 d...

Questions regarding Syndication era bumpers for DBZ

Okay, some of you may have seen this infamous clip on Youtube with all those mid-90s children doing lame commercial bumpers for the Ocean/Saban dub. I'm just wondering if these were used throughout the entire dub, or just for the Saiyan Saga (or even less). On Rock the Dragon Edition (which is by fa...

Re: Dubs of the original three series that put in the best effort.

FUNimation didn't go to Ocean to save money, they went to Ocean because they had Saban's money and could afford them. In the interest of taking all factors into account, it would be fair to note that the Canadian dollar wasn't as strong at the time, but nevertheless, by dubbing standards, it was no...

Re: Dubs of the original three series that put in the best effort.

The nice thing about the Saban Ocean dub is, y'know, real actors , & in fact Canada's BEST VA's.. At the time, a lot of them were just starting out in the voice acting industry, like Brian Drummond and Peter Kelamis for example. It's no secret that FUNimation didn't have a lot of money back in the ...

Personally, I think Faulconer is better than Levi, as Levi's music doesn't sound good standalone. Even then, Levi's music is better than Menza's in GT I always thought some of the music from the Saban/Wasserman score you're talking about sounded really good due to how intense and heart-pounding it ...

Re: The pronounciation of the word "Dimension" on the Saban Ocean dub

Sometimes its DEE mension and at others its DIE mension? Why is that? Did the dub actors want to imply a characters true fate as in they DIED! The only time it ever really sounded like "Die Mension" was when Nappa said it. You can pretty much just put it down to Michael Dobson's nasally voice, as o...
