Re: Which author is better with women? Toriyama or Kishimoto
Well, if you don't have the skills get it or change job. I used to have a professor who blandly told us that he hates teaching females and that we waste his precious time. Nice men, wasn't he? If they don't feel comfortable writing female characters, then I don't know why they should be crucified fo...

Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
IMHO some people think that bashing "impure" parts of any given franchise makes them look cool, mature and advanced. Star Wars fandom made an art of complaining about New Trilogy to the point that it takes bigger part of any given forum.

Re: Which author is better with women? Toriyama or Kishimoto
Like I demonstrated women aren't animals in zoo that you need to handle with care and describe only when they run from their cages. The point is a question why do we accept it as an answer and treat "writing females" (whatever it means) as an extra skill for someone who describes people fo...

Re: Which author is better with women? Toriyama or Kishimoto
Author must be comfortable with making up males with completely different history and background, yet excluding females with the lame excuse is completely acceptable. When you write fantasy world you must think about worldbuiding, thinking about ways circumstances and society could change your prota...

Re: Which author is better with women? Toriyama or Kishimote
Everyone who uses this excuse should be exiled to Mt. Athos and sentenced to write 10 000 times "Woman make half of the population and I describe characters for living" as a pennace. Seriously, why don't we hear about female writers saying that they can't write males? That's pretty much l...

Then he should be criticized for taking up the job that he had no skills to do to begin with. We are.not in primary school.

I can't understand logic behind this statement- he lacks the basic requirment in his job so he shouln't be judged for that?he can't speak good English but can't we give him a free pass since English isn't his native language?

Re: Whose backstory do you want to know the most?
Ugh, I've always hated the way they (meaning Toei's writers) handled the concept of the Saiyan-Tuffle (dubism?) war. Just seems so unnecessarily recent. Ditto. If the war was a recent history and we are told that before it they lived as a caveman- how they managed to learn technology enough to not ...

Re: Was Chi-Chi wrong wanting Goku to provide and Gohan educ
Stockbroker? What a waste! I'm sure that instead he made sure that Bulma would never have problems with delayed payment. As a businesswoman she basically won on a lottery. Goku can do lots of things, but the problem is that he doesn't. He has no initiative when it comes to daily problems. ...

Re: Whose backstory do you want to know the most?
According to King Kai both races lived together until war broke out (the extract reasons depend on who is speaking ). King Vegeta was explicitly said to be the most intelligent Saiyan who brought his race to victory.

Re: Whose backstory do you want to know the most?
I have a bad feelings about it. Every time we see King Vegeta he acts like bastard son of rabid dog and doormat- no plan, no thought, nothing to support King Kai's claim about his supposed intelligence. I honestly think that Toei is incapable of portraying him as capable, competent and charismatic l...

Re: Who's flanderization in Super is the most disheartening?
The only difference between portrayal of Beerus in Bog and Super is that the latter actually shows effects of his short temper, while the former merely mentions them. Beerus is no sadist and he doesn't feel endangered by characters' presence so he can afford to be merciful, kind, even generous. He r...

And Videl... *sigh*... Oh, Videl. She has become nothing more than a boring housewife whose only purpose is to carry fetus Pan. Videl- Natasha Rostova of Dragon Ball. As I wrote nobody (apart from Tolstoy) just sits and thinks that he will write a misogynist characteristic. Chi-Chi at least has her...

Re: What's your opinion on the new characters?
Well, the main problem with Tarable and Gine is that they both have lots in common with mixture used in elementary diet. They are bland to the point of having no traits, delivered in unmemorable form and leave bad aftertaste. Tarable is a joke from bad fanfiction. "Vegeta's wimpy brother"w...

Videl was about to fall outside the ring but Spopovich cached her just before she touched the ground and proceeded to beat her. That was pure sadism and showed that he is not about fighting fair so I understand that Gohan was pissed off.

Re: Which character would most likely be a feminist?
Why not Vegeta? He seemed all A-OK living as house husband. I've always imagined Sayians a pretty egalitarian society when it comes to gender roles. I dont think any character is sexist, its Toriyama's narrative which is pretty much ehhhhh. Well, it's not like he sits and thinks that he will write s...

Re: Is Videl " Chi-Chi done right ". . . ?
Chi-Chi at least had some character and purpose in life. Videl meanwhile was exchanged for Stepford bot who will take everything with a smile (gunshot for example). She also married and had a fetus in her womb before she went to University (did she ever?). That's not wrong per se, but it's annoying ...

Re: Journey to the West: Which Version To Buy?
The book may be old, but the translation is another piece of copyright- the one mentioned here is from early 80s.
Gutenberg has no translation given and I doubt that's Anthony C. Yu's- but Amazon has kindle version. Not cheap, but definitely worth it.
