Re: Absurdities of claiming that canon does not exist
Perhaps cannon exists with the -n being doubled in our translation of it . Just kidding obviously.

Re: Absurdities of claiming that canon does not exist
I'll do the impossible in a Dragon Ball community which is to admit to the hardest thing in terms of acknowledgement and self awareness: I enjoy crafting theories based on trivia that has been collected. I try to insert them in the story to see whether it works or not. I pick those which allow some ...

Re: Absurdities of claiming that canon does not exist
Ok, but what is the definition of canon, and how does it apply to Dragon Ball? Is it specified for the readers and spectators or are they the ones who get to pick which content satisfies their notion of it? Can we discuss the events and characters without claiming the words "manga" and &qu...

Re: What exactly prevented Goku from learning UI with Popo?
I think that Goku gained some self awareness over time, and it allowed him to fight, not for his emotions, which led him to the path of power, but for his own well being.

Re: Does Goku really need to be in base for the Genki-dama?
Great post! I agree that if he's calm and collected, then he can gather energy and focus it on a single point, otherwise let it slip and fade away. Purity played a role in allowing the attack to be repelled by Gohan who did not control it too. I guess that we could split the Genki-dama's functioning...

Re: Gohan was a SSJ1 vs Dabura, in all likelihood
I don't think that the hair argument came down to the strands that spiked up. I think that it used to be about the strand of hair that fell on his forehead. There were two of them: a longer strand and a shorter one to its side as seen in Broly's Second Coming. People assigned Super Saiyan to both st...

Does Goku really need to be in base for the Genki-dama?
Or was he simply on his limits when he used it in the manga? The purity argument is a bit suspect when Cell should be able to use it as well. Fast forward to Vegeta post-Yardrat training and he's able to take people's energy in blue form despite not having an attack for it.

Re: Granolah's name
I think that the best combination would be for animated shows to pronounce these names correctly by having their translation staff write them down in a way that does not necessarily preserve the pun but indicates how it's supposed to sound because fans could then read the right spelling in the manga...

Re: Has your opinion about Ultra Ego changed since its introduction?
The hair being fuller suits Vegeta's widow's peak without making it longer like Gotenks's SS3 (whose forehead is not the same) when the lack of eyebrows is not surprising. What I do wish is that his hair was more violet than purple, the color that recedes into nothing in the blue end of the spectrum...

Re: Gohan was a SSJ1 vs Dabura, in all likelihood
Indeed, he could have started in SS2 form and dialed it down to Super Saiyan at full power, but this is such a Schrodinger's Cat type of situation that I had rather say that Gohan fought transformed . He also used more power while in that form than he had shown Kibito at the tournament because Shin ...

Re: Gohan was a SSJ1 vs Dabura, in all likelihood
Gohan was actually using the power of Super Saiyan 2 in Super Saiyan form. Neither weaker nor stronger as a SS2SS. Just rusty.

Re: Why "Tullece" and not something like "Turlece"?
I guess that the thought process behind the double L was to pronounce Tullece like tuh-less akin to "let us" in lettuce. People must have looked at how we spelled dull or null (but not bull and pull) and put it in there. However, I can't find words that end with -lece or -ece in English, s...

Re: Why "Tullece" and not something like "Turlece"?
There's also no real rule for what the name has to be , as long as you're happy with it. For example, I never go Ruth "Tarble." I used to go with "Table," but most people would pronounce that as "tay-bel." Then, I started using "Tahble" or "Taable,"...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Would you mind having fusion names that are not solely based on the concatenation of words that were split? In the sense that they can have a meaning of its own. Say, Beers and Champa's fusion is Black Velvet, Top and Dyspo are Dystopia in the second case, etc., although one could argue that the mea...

Re: Why "Tullece" and not something like "Turlece"?
There's defintely ways to closer match the pun. Such as? I can't really imagine how to get much closer to the pun. What you described in this thread is perfect. In my country, the dub had Talles, which along with Taurus, did not resemble any pun. Phonetically, Tullece represents a challenge in some...

Re: Fave Broly design?
Both versions of him have odd color choices depending on how the transformations are colored. For example, I don't like Super Saiyan DBS Broly from the waist down, because the green fur becomes acid very quickly, and his violet pants lit up to purple in a strange combination (which is how Piccolo's ...

Is there the possibility of it being Granol by making it a pun of granola and granel? Perhaps more on the adaptation side of things than direct translation.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Can't be worse than how kid Gohan faded into obscurity in the androids chapters and showed up different to become the hero semi-teen.
