Re: Did the editor veto of 17 and 18 being the arc villains keep her alive
I think it depends on when Toriyama decided 18 would be the Future Mrs.Krillin. After he decided 17 and 18 wouldn't be the big bad anymore? Before? Pilaf (if he counts), Piccolo (through reincarnation), and Vegeta all survived their stint as big bad so there's a precedent. We could of had a parallel...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Another example would be goku magically knowing how to read minds in the namek arc. Way back in the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai arc it was established disciplined martial artist can read minds as seen with Roshi reading Nam's. I don't see an issue with Goku doing the same. Chi pretty much amounts to &qu...

He came to earth assuming Goku already conquered the earth and wiped out the human race, of course he assumed Goku had access to the space pod he came in.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
You know, considering that Z movies 1 and 2 were still using the OP re-arrangement motif of the original Dragon Ball series (even though it can't be used in the Z series proper) as well as their general vibe, I wonder if the Toei staff was essentially just stalling so they could rehash the Saiyan p...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Sadly, it feels like there really isn't much hype for it anymore. Hardly anyone talks about it, let alone speculates about the plot. Only because we don't have any news in general since a long while, which hopefully should be changing soon. Tease a potential Goku + Shin Potara Fusion and you get al...

Nope. Like all their shows they removed the opening in favor of their own custom opening which was just random clips of the show with generic ambient music

Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products
The similarity between the aforementioned Simpsons episode and the scene in Dragon Ball Z ends at the bullet being thrown back. I highly doubt the writers and storyboard artist at The Simpsons got it from DBZ. The scenes and execution are completely different. https://youtu.be/YWDUEVL0PMI?si=8hRDTw...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Z unquestionably lost its way when Toei began spamming (mostly) formulaic rehash movies twice a year (to say nothing of the Hit Song Collections) and then directing all score composition towards that (where it worked much better than in the series). Had the effect of, again, rehashes of moments in ...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
. Did we need 4 movies featuring him? That I'm not sure about Especially since Z movie 10 could have easily replaced him with evil volcano god and Z movie 11 could have replaced him with doomsday monster of science. Like Venom he became a victim of his own popularity and showed up more than he need...

Re: Petition to mark March 8th as "International Dragon Ball Day"
9th of May is Goku day, not international Dragon Ball day. Same difference I agree it should have been called "Toriyama international day" instead. Morbid or not, I think it's good that in the future it will be a day that was remembered. However, I think either march 1st, of Toriyama's bi...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I love Kikuchi score, but I feel like his score in the anime could use some more variety. There are tons of overused tracks. There's a lot of variety. The problem (although I personally don't see an issue) is Kikuchi would create a a suite for an arc or a movie and the the music editor tend to favo...

Re: New Sand Land project announced
I'm watching Sand Land now. It's really good! There's suspense but also humor and unpredictable events. You can really sense the Toriyama flair! I will for sure buy it if it comes out on Blu-Ray. An excellent news is that the full color manga has been announced to be released in France this fall! H...

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?
Toei probably blocking them reusing the "Dragon Box" branding and like someone said above only allowed it for a limited set. But didn't stop them from using the Dragon Box masters for the FuniNow and later the Crunchyroll stream. *shrug* Toei likes money y'all. They probably didn't block ...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Super Hero did debut at number 1 in the US box office beating Beast , a movie with freaking Idris Elba. If that doesn't say Dragon Ball is mainstream I don't know what will. Glad to know Akira Toriyama lived to see that. It's weird to me people even try to argue Dragon Ball isn't mainstream and yet...

But also apparently the Dragon Boxes didn't sell very well. This pops up now and again, but has there ever been a source for this? https://youtu.be/YyqjJ-oeFO0?si=j0LBplBg-V89H_7z Around the 22 minute mark former Funimation marketing director Lance Heiskell said they didn't perform. I'd also suspec...

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?
Same reason we never got a Rock the Dragon reprint it was a limited Collector's Edition meant for hardcore fans, albeit RTD and Dragon Box Z were targeted at complete opposite ends of the hardcore fan spectrum. But also apparently the Dragon Boxes didn't sell very well. Which like, it came directly ...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2
Honestly I have nothing good to say about this situation. I am not sad that the company that has destroyed my favorite series on home media again and again is now gone. The fact that in 30 years we still don’t have a proper release of OG dragonball and Z is appalling. The DragonboxZ is still the de...
