Re: Looking for Pioneer subtitles
I just saw this post today. Only movies 2 and 3 have dubtitles. Easiest way to extract them is to use MakeMKV on the ISO (or disc) to generate an MKV file of the movie, and then use MKV Extract to pull out the sub files. To do anything with them you'll have to OCR, however, which you can use Subtitl...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 69 (nice) - DBZ 144-148 (CURRENT WEEK)
[*]In the original Funimation dub of Z episode 146, there was an extensive monologue by the narrator which, in my opinion, completely kills the intense mood of the scene. It seems Funi agreed, as the dialogue was removed after the first airing, and the monologue was not present in the Westwood Medi...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?
This question is very hypothetical - is it possible, sure, anything's possible. Will it actually happen? Nope. FUNi has had the opportunity to do such a thing and has not (although Kai is fairly close and good enough for me). They have 0 incentive to do any kind of redub with how most American fans ...

Re: Dragon Ball 4K Remaster (16mm)
It would, since this audio is straight from the print, whereas while the DBOX audio is optical based, it's still compressed to a degree, and likely from an older, more degraded print.derpytacos wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 5:04 pm is it just me or does that audio sound better than normal dbox audio?

Re: Curse of the blood rubbie rare dub
It's YouTube compression, I've seen the non compressed versions of his work and used them in my projects, which I know you're aware of, and it's a legitimate recording setup. Anyway we didn't get it, so I assume it will live sealed in some hoarders house forever.

Re: Curse of the blood rubbie rare dub
I am the top bidder right now, I have a professional digitization set up, and plan to preserve the video and the tapes hi-fi audio. I also have plans to do a restoration using the hd footage and this audio if I win the tape. I dont want to say too much and break the rules but yes these would be 're...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 59 - DBZ 100-104 (CURRENT WEEK)
Many fans therefore interpreted Goku's return (which is accompanied by light coming out of the water) as him being resurrected by Shen Long. I legitimately got into fights with my friends about this, since I was less familiar with the rules during my first watch of the show. It really seems like To...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 57 - DBZ 90-94 (CURRENT WEEK)
The Ginyu Force arriving at Kaio's presents some logistical problems for all future villains that are as strong as them, such as Freeza, King Cold, Cell, the Androids (in Future Trunks' time), Dabra, Boo, and even movie villains likes Broly and Coola. If the Ginyu Force are strong enough to get pas...

Re: Your opinion about Dragon Ball AI Project (DBAI)
As mentioned above, the colors are overly blue and a lot of detail is destroyed. The lines look "sharp" but it's very unnatural, and in many cases the background elements are blurred even more than what you see on FUNi Z releases.

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 45 - DBZ episode 43-47
Uncut episode 43/edited episode 31 is the first to have no cuts or paint edits at all, according to Chris Psaros's guide . He doesn't note any significant dialogue changes either! I do find this somewhat suspect, however; I would imagine at least a few shots would have been cut for time constraints...

Re: Question about Funimation's remastering process
One thing to note is that that video makes the Dragon Box look worse than it actually is. It looks like they applied DNR before they even did the comparison shots. Otherwise I guess it's a similar, smudgy look. this is how it looks in Z https://twitter.com/dbaiproject/status/1312731943151243265 Why...

Re: Dragon Ball Edited 2001 Funimation Dub
I was curious if they reused the same edited shots from their 1995 Dub, like changing Bulma's Underwear with Dollars, or if they redid those edits from scratch, because seeing it now, a lot of those paint edits look pretty terrible It would be interesting in getting the info on what they censored o...

Re: DB and Nostalgia
It's a little of column A and a little of column B. The Dragon Ball manga in its original form is a legitimately good story, at least until the Boo Arc, and the anime that's based on it is of course also well done for the time. I have gone in and out of the fandom over the years since I first saw th...

Re: State of the Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z Broadcast Audio?
Every episode of DB is covered by at least one Fuji TV capture (some include video, most are audio-only), which covers the full frequency range of the broadcasts in optimal quality, and many have alternate sources captured from other stations that had a 10KHz frequency cutoff. This is the first I'v...

Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?
My earliest memories is of channel surfing some local channel and coming across some Ocean dub Namek episode. I was intrigued by the character designs and the fact that people were shooting "fireballs" out of their hands. I also 100% thought Zarbon was a girl. Despite that I don't think I ...

Re: Gotenks is by far the most annoying canon character of the entire franchise
I have issues with Gotenks, but I think that it's more reflective of the writing in general during the Boo arc then with any type of character flaw. He's basically a kid version of Vegeta, which is fine I guess, but the fact that he takes things less seriously than Goten and Trunks do in the same si...

Re: Dragon Ball Lore
I agree that having lore for the sake of lore can be detrimental to a successful narrative. When learning how to write stories, you're taught to provide just enough exposition to get your audience invested in your characters and their goals before moving into the main plot. Lore can certainly help f...

Re: Recording vs Buying In the 90's/2000's
I recorded the whole series manually (cutting out commercials) off of Toonami from the Ginyu episodes all the way up through the middle of Buu (sometime around Vegeto appearing I think). At one point they aired reruns of Saiyan/Namek and I got those too, as well as a tape full of early DB. I only ow...
