Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Do you think Funimation might have some fun with the 30th Anniversary page on April 1st? Seems like a perfect opportunity to advertise a BRAND NEW 8K CINEMASCOPE ULTRA WIDESCREEN EDITION OF DBZ !!!

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
That's a bummer about no OBA, but 4:3 still has me pumped! I guess the only hope for better Japanese audio now would be if Toei didn't throw out the original masters after all...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
The Levels look excellent besides the crushed blacks and very minor macroblocking, but the former could be solved with a better source to work from and the latter could be fixed with better encoding. Hopefully that kind of approach is taken and improved upon.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
We've been so concerned with the aspect ratio and audio, but is there any chance the Toonami promos might finally be included on an official release as extras? I mention this because the initial License Global coverage of Funimation and Toei's collaboration features Dragon Ball characters dressed as...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
If I’m remembering correctly, anything more that 1080P would have to be an upscale, and I don’t want that. The movies, however could be in 4K, but that’s be a separate release. It’s a matter of film size. 16mm versus 32mm. 16mm can still be scanned in at 4K, but the only extra detail it would reall...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
500? I'd say it'll cost 1000. Yeah, $1000 would be a hard sell. They'd have to promise handjobs from Chris Sabat for the majority of US fans to even consider that. Geez, that would be insane for this release to cost that much. That price is about equal if a bit less than the total of what the two J...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
IDK but the longer this drags on the dumber i think Funimation was for making the decision to announce any details with this set. If they don't have details about this set by mid april i say it was an epic fail :/ Theory, literally just thought of it. What if FUNi got more than the initial 2500 sig...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
All of the NEPs in the original broadcast order would be cool to have, but I must admit that I wouldn't care for that as much as just getting the show in 4:3 with broadcast Japanese audio.

Now how amusing would it be for this Blu-ray set to not make 3000 preorders... ?

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
There is a panel today at SXSW, hosted by Funimation, in celebration of their 25th anniversary about anime and gaming. Dragon Ball is part of it, and they will discuss what is to come in their 25th year as a company. Maybe they will announce further details about this set there? it starts at 14.30 ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
I don't think the release will be censored, or at the very least Toei and Funimation certainly wouldn't advertise it. Just imagine if it was censored and people only found out after purchasing it... Now that would be hilarious! However, censorship? They can make absolutely gorgeous HD remasters of t...

Re: How could a new movie be more successful than DBS: Broly?
When it comes to Dragon Ball, I really have a hard time figuring out just what people were expecting... It's a fun movie with some cool scenes. It's my least favorite out of the three newest films, and I agree Yamamuro's designs are pretty bland and that he's lost his touch, but people act like RF i...

Re: The arrogant entrance of Future Trunks and Shin to DBZ
Toriyama is all about subverting expectations, from villains assuming smaller forms as they power up to unlikely fighters aiding the heroes at the last possible moment. With Trunks, that exchange is really meant to show just how strong he is and also emphasize the threat that loomed in the future. T...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
I have a feeling that this set will be $500, just seems like the bare minimum for it to be a profitable venture. 2,500 x 500 = 1,250,000
That's an easy $1m in their pockets and another $250k bubble to cover design, manufacturing, shipping, customer mishaps etc. Any purchases beyond 2,500 are a bonus.

Re: Will you be getting 30th anniversary set?
Depends entirely on the content. I'll pay whatever I have to if it has features that I care about, 4:3 and broadcast Japanese audio being the main two. Anything over $500 would be a stretch for me, but I'd figure out how to make it work.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Ummm, yeah, please don't compare the crappy PVC figure that's gonna come with this collector's edition to $500+ resins that we buy. We pay that much for a resin because of the size, level of detail that goes into it, and a limited run. The quality of the figure will probably be the equivalent of a ...

https://thehande.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/frieza-battle.png Jesus, the cropping is so stupid and ruins the whole pysche of the shot, to make Freeza more imposing and show Goku's resolve in spite of that. With this, the focus is now on the upper half of Freeza's body? It's also hard to tell that ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
As much as I understand production costs and all that, I have to think FUNimation isn't stupid enough to think people would pay more than $500 for this, right? ...right? There are entire Facebook groups filled with people that pay more than that just for unofficial resin statues, and this comes wit...
