Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?

Lance Heiskell's original plan was to have barebones volumes for Walmart with the original 276 episode version of Dragon Ball Z, as fans remembered from Toonami, but it was to be on DVD.

SD-BD is more of an enthusiast's product, hence you only see companies like Discotek avail of it.

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?

FunimationNow did stream the Dragon Box masters, but only for the Japanese version and without NEPs. Much like the 4:3 aspect ratio itself its like they treat the Dragon Box video as something of a premium product for the purists rather than a baseline or bare minimum. Either way clearly there has b...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

Super Hero did debut at number 1 in the US box office beating Beast, a movie with freaking Idris Elba. If that doesn't say Dragon Ball is mainstream I don't know what will. Glad to know Akira Toriyama lived to see that.

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?

https://youtu.be/YyqjJ-oeFO0?si=j0LBplBg-V89H_7z Ah yes, I do remember that interview. It's quite perplexing the Dragon Boxes weren't advertised as short supply, doing so probably would have made sense considering how little confidence Funimation clearly had in them (we know this since the dub, whi...

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?

But also apparently the Dragon Boxes didn't sell very well. This pops up now and again, but has there ever been a source for this? The Dragon Boxes were a Collector's Edition so by definition there was a limit to how many copies could be produced. As I've said, the fact there is not one brand new c...

Re: Dragon Ball Theme Park

This is great news, but I wonder why Saudi Arabia of all places. Orlando, Florida would have seemed to be a given as they already have a Dragon Ball themed restaurant and as the box office success of Super Hero showed the US is one of the biggest markets for Dragon Ball.

Re: Why did we never got a Dragon box reprint?

TOEI apparently wanted to keep the Dragon Boxes as a Japan-only release, so we can only speculate Funimation had to try for many years to get them. While Adam Sheehan did say during the Dragon Boxes official announcement during Funimation's industry panel at Otakon 2009 the Dragon Boxes were for not...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai is getting a Castilian dub

As this is the seventh Kai dub announced over the last 13 months (in addition to the Hindi redub, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Polish dubs) I'm really hoping this means the series will be dubbed in even more languages.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai is getting a Castilian dub

Always nice to see Kai getting some love in a world where Super and Daima exists. Gives me some renewed hope Ocean's dub will one day be seen.

Happy for the voice actors too as from what I've been told they've wanted a chance to dub in Castillian for a while.

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2

Even if AI translations were accurate and could be read as natural dialogue I'd love to see any attempt being made to replicate the creativity of human writers. Something like the scripts for Blue Water's dub of original Dragon Ball (adapted also by Kind and Coldrick, alongside Geoffrey Way, Mike Br...

Re: The end of era: Sony discontinues the Funimation brand on April 2

Toei and Crunchyroll both only care for money. In fact, a translator told me that CR is looking into using AI translations instead of paying translators in the future . That's really sad because there are a lot of great translators out there that can not only adapt Japanese scripts and retain all t...

Re: Writers - What Can/Can't They Do?

As long as another writer is consistent with Toriyama's world and characters to the extent it feels organic I don't see an issue. The worldbuilding should follow concepts established (as seen in the original manga) or implied (in the case of anime filler) by Toriyama. Existing characters should be a...

Re: Dubs you've been actively following

As tame as Super was it might as well have aired on a kids network instead of trying to pretend it was a teen/young adult show on Adult swim It aired on a kids network in the UK and got much better ratings in 2019 than Kai did in 2013 despite a further decline in traditional TV viewership. Nicktoon...

DBGT Still exist on 16mm films, dbox sources are 16mm films including GT (GT TVSP 16mm film is lost) I don't know if Toei allways have GT master tape, basically we just don't know anything about what Toei allways own The weird thing with GT is that unlike original Dragon Ball and Z, TOEI did their ...

Another dub I really want to learn more about, even if we never get to see is the Animax dub of Dragon Ball. I've still not got any leads on recordings, but I spoke to one person who saw it, and another person who had a friend he's no longer in contact with that saw one episode, both on Discord. I d...

If you like dragon Ball with some what if and some references to Z with some changes then SD might be for you the wiki says that it's a kids manga but they keep some outfits that might not be appropriate for kids but they also changed some things like krilln not dieing but freeza and namic not expl...

Re: Fuji TV apparantly Fuji TV has Dragon Ball TV anime masters still. Could a remaster be on the way in a few years?

I too was one of those fans who hoped TOEI remastering the TV specials would be a sign they would work on the series, but it really wasn't in retrospect. While the TV specials are not movies, TOEI doing a HD scan of them is still more comparable to them doing a scan of the movies. They are self-cont...

Re: Fuji TV apparantly Fuji TV has Dragon Ball TV anime masters still. Could a remaster be on the way in a few years?

Funimation did do a HD transfer of their film prints for the orange bricks, but of course it was a DVD release so the footage was downscale to SD. I believe there was automation involved when it comes to the colours and cropping as you can see throughout the run how sloppy it all was. AI is becoming...
