Re: GT and late 90s color schemes

I think changing Bulma and Bra's hair to purple would have been cool also, similar to how they did for the anniversary movie.

Re: I don’t get why the funimation cast use the same voices not voice actors voices for their characters.

Bulma's family all have an English underwear pun... Bulma's *family* is named directly after English terms. Bulma herself is named directly after a Japanese term. Albeit one that is derived from an English term. She is named directly after buruma , without any kind of altering of the syllables. *Sa...

Re: I don’t get why the funimation cast use the same voices not voice actors voices for their characters.

The Funimation pronunciation was most likely the result of Barry Watson, a guy who also thought Kaioken should be pronounced as Kayoken, or that Kamehameha should be pronounced as Kamayamaya. "Kaioken" and "Kamehameha" are Japanese terms. "Saiyan" and "Bulma"...

Re: I don’t get why the funimation cast use the same voices not voice actors voices for their characters.

Funimation didn’t make up the word Saiyan or Bulma. The Funimation pronunciation is not just as accurate or more so, its 100 percent inaccurate. It's just as accurate as anything else, if not more so. Those aren't Japanese terms, and they aren't a part of the original Japanese story or dialogue. Th...

Re: GT and late 90s color schemes

I don't think that GT is necessarily supposed to capture the colors of DB and DBZ. The darker, drearier colors might be intentional. To help inspire a greater sense of melancholy within the story.

Re: I don’t get why the funimation cast use the same voices not voice actors voices for their characters.

People will pronounce Saiyan correctly and get “corrected” by fans. There's no "correct" way of pronouncing the word Saiyan. In essence, "Saiyan", much like "Bulma", belongs to the Funi English and other international dubs, despite its presence and origins in Japanese ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

It's the Saiyan identity that he cares about, not the race itself. I don't know if that's entirely true. There are many things in the series that suggest he cares about other Saiyans, from the way he refers to Goku exclusively by his Saiyan name, to the interest he's taken in Universe 6's Saiyans (...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Vegeta does have some contempt towards his fellow saiyans... he had no quarrels with completely exterminating them after needlessly killing Nappa and trying to kill Goku and Gohan. So at least in Z, he does hate pretty much every single saiyan alive. Vegeta just doesn't like anybody. Saiyan or othe...

Re: GT and late 90s color schemes

I appreciate the different colors for GT. I think it was wise for the series to distance itself from the original, and the colors help make it feel like it exists in its own world apart from DB and DBZ.

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

Just because a story is ending, doesn't mean it should be longer. Plenty of final seasons are shorter, often because the writers want to craft something lean and mean. The Buu arc drags and it's not a great final impression. DB benefitted from keeping most of its arcs shorter. Less is more, but mor...

That's fine if your only concern is *watching* the series, but some people want to actually *own* the series. For a variety of different reasons.

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

The Buu arc's issue isn't the humor. It's that it's entirely too long and simultaneously feels like it plows through story. It could have been a little bit shorter maybe, but I don't think that the length or the pacing were particularly problematic. It makes sense that the final saga would be longe...

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

For a story as goofy and crazy as DB, trying to take things so super serious often makes it feel immature and like it's making apologies for what it is. It's one of the reason I've grown less fond of super serious superhero movies. Having lots of humor mixed into a concept as inherently silly as su...

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

Gotenks versus Boo had some funny moments, but it's hard to take any of it seriously with all of the gags. Same with the Vegetto portion. That's a problem when the threat is supposed to be greater and more serious than ever before. Yes, it's a kids show, but one that had already established itself a...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 111 - GT 44-48 (CURRENT WEEK)

So, these episodes are largely nonsense, but entertaining. Super 17 really was the "filler arc" of GT. Episode 46 I remember from watching music videos back in the day, not having a clue what was going on or who any of the characters were. But it always looked cool! The battle is a lot of ...

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

I don't really like the various Super Boo fights because the humor feels completely out of place in them. Serious threats mixed with goofball humor doesn't work here. The 86 series was never like that. And yet the other fights where they're beat to shreds and exhausted take a fraction of the time. E...

Re: OG Dragon Ball and why one shouldnt mind if people skip it

I don't think that it necessarily *requires* that many episodes, just that it's fitting for the battle to be that long. I think that it feels that much more epic and dramatic because of the length, and has a heavier impact on the viewers that way. They're supposed to feel beat up and exhausted by th...

I never thought that this battle was too long. It feels deserved for a character like Freeza and the story they were trying to tell. Some of the filler parts are too much I admit, but the overall length seems appropriate to me.
