Re: New Book About Akira Toriyama - The Master of Manga

I'd hardly call Toriyama "master" of manga. That's probably Tezuka. Or Naoki Urasawa, these days. I don't know who those artists are, but it seems kind of silly to use "master" and "these days" in the same sentence to begin with. The masters are the innovators and tren...

Re: Ancient question about Schemmel for oldschool PN veteran

"I'll talk as loudly as I want now, and I'll be heard. The reason is you're misunderstanding some things about companies and dubbing and how they control our mouths. Just because I was in the original DBZ, doesn't mean I liked it or supported it artistically. We were all frustrated with the ol...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

Perhaps I'm confusing this with something else, but wasn't there supposed to be a "Journey to the West" featurette on this set? :|

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

I suppose we should rename this "The Technical Arguing Thread". Anyhow, to get back on topic, I must say that I'm very impressed with what FUNimation has done here. The amount of grain that was left intact is unbelievable, and the image looks great. Since I am collecting the Dragon Boxes, ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

The Dragon Boxes look much better. In fact, in several of the examples given, there is a lot of detail lost. For instance, take a look at the insides of certain characters' ears; the detail has been crushed. You can also see that the lines are missing from the inside of Raditz's scouter, as it is co...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

Surround Sound Mono, maybe? Is that even possible? That's a oxymoron. I thought so, it's not like putting a mono track through six channels changes anything. So then what would this "new track" of the Japanese audio be? I was thinking they'd just dump the Japanese mono they had, if nothin...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box Z Volume Seven Discussion

I wasn't comparing the FUNi boxes to the Japanese boxes. I was comparing FUNi box 7 to the previous FUNi boxes, but now I see that it's just that episode; the shots Zestanor posted are much sharper than the ones on the last page, with the exception of those title cards near the bottom, which look gr...

Re: What's the closest approximation of Gokuu's hick-ness?

I wouldn't say everyone in this thread is oppose of Goku having a southern accent or disliking a southern accent, but many including myself think it's pretty much too late for that. The deed was done with the English and international dubs. When it comes down to it, it's more a personal preference ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box Z Volume Seven Discussion

I'm pretty sure Mountain was referring to screencaps of the episodes without the brightness adjustments, Daniel. Yep. Oohh. Well maybe I'll do that later. Mountain posted right under the discussion we had about a possible error, so I thought he was referring to that. That would be great, thanks. Oh...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

I haven't watched the English dub with the Faulconer score since it first aired, but I checked out a single of mine (Babidi - Rivals) about a year ago. I seem to remember that during the Kaioshin/Goku/Vegeta showdown at the budoukai... the music switches to Kikuchi's score for a few seconds right af...

Re: Do you understand Japanese?

I'm about the same as the previous two responses. I know all hiragana/katakana, and the first 80 grade one kanji (as well as a bunch of other random characters). As with Herms, I'm much better at reading than speaking/comprehending verbal communication. However, there are certain episodes of Dragon ...
