Huh, yeah that was the tweet I saw but after seeing the 35th anniversary message I assumed it was a new 35th anniversary blu-ray, my bad.
But hmm...so some femboys out there got a hold of DB 16mm film? They haven't claimed in the tweet it's their film or scan so idk.

Dragon Ball 4K Remaster (16mm)
This is what Dragon Ball would look like with a 4K remaster, for those who think 16mm isn't worth 4K.
DBox:
Glad to see Toei are doing it right finally.

Re: Curse of the blood rubbie rare dub
FUNimation already has it, you dumbo. If they wanted us to see it, it'd already be on a Blu-ray. What I want to know is, if you don't want to preserve the product, why did you bother buying it? Just to stare at it? So, "indeed," I hope you stare at it so much that you at least get dry eye...

Re: Curse of the blood rubbie rare dub
Hi,
I won the auction.
Indeed, I'll only be keeping the contents to myself. I don't intend on ripping and sharing it (with the whole world) because that would literally be illegal. So, to the pirates here, please stop your whining.
I'll consider sending it to Chris Sabat.

Re: What are the odds of us getting 4:3 Blu-rays of the Bardock/Trunks specials?
You say "Valuable film reels"... Striking prints (or, indeed, sending old prints) for foreign distributors was a normal thing for them to do, to give their foreign distributors their video masters as late as 2003, when Funi acquired the last batch of Z. Granted, you are correct that after...

Re: What are the odds of us getting 4:3 Blu-rays of the Bardock/Trunks specials?
Heh, I always knew the idea on this forum that Funimation didn't have film reels until it was time to do Orange Bricks (and that all they had were Latin American digibetas) was the most ridiculous idea ever. Imagine...Toei putting valuable film reels at risk by internationally shipping ~300 of them ...

Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
All I'm gonna say is, you shouldn't dismiss 16mm anime in 4K til you've actually seen it done right. On a 4K screen I'd rather see animation on 16mm with 4K-scanned grain than 2K grain upscaled to 4K. The detail under the grain isn't going to be razor sharp, sure, but if the grain is left intact the...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Thank you for your detailed response. DBZ in 4K... now that will be the day! I wonder if Toei or FUNi has any interest? My gut says “no” with FUNi because they don’t even want to invest their resources on a regular HD restoration, and maybe no with Toei too. They have already done the Dragon Box an...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Lightningexpose: What is your opinion of what an ideal HD home video presentation of DBZ should be? How do you think it should be scanned, restored, and processed... to go from looking like a jacked up grindhouse film to a pristine HD anime? Sorry to put you on the spot, but I would like to hear yo...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
So ,TLDR: Give me a DBZ remaster with the colors that Kai and the detail and grain that LS have. That would be a perfect DBZ releasse. Level sets grain isn't ideal at all. https://twitter.com/FemboyFilms/status/1325502101905002496 this is a better amount of 16mm grain than level sets and it's also ...

... I do find it entertaining that you cant hold a proper discussion without being a cynical ass. Dont you have to upload videos on youtube from your uncle's toei archives? Huh? Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Kai's colours are literally how the show is meant to look, straight off the cels. There isn't any retroactive grade going on there beyond DNR. The Levels are grungy ass multigen print mediocrity. This misconception is exactly what that other user was trying to convey, and nobody's grasped that yet....

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
The fact that prior to ~2015-16 digital animation was based on mediocre 720p scans and most of the backgrounds were limited to that if not colored on the same shitty mspaint method that the rest of the characters were coloured. And since you cherry picked your early 2000s digital anime, here's my c...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
The reason they stopped using film is that film process was way more expensive and time consuming than the typical computer scan digital that replaced it. So much more that the trade off in quality didnt matter to them. If we're talking purely about medium quality, film would still be at the top. L...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Out of all of these examples, i'll gladly take the film restorations over the cel restorations, and especially toei's cel restorations. People throw the buzzword "restored to how its intended to look" a lot when they're doing cel restorations while omitting the format the show was shot on...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Annnnnd... WOW! The big deal about Funimation’s version of DBZ to me was the “color correction....” And all this time, because of them, I thought Bulma’s hair on Namek was BLUE!!!! One might admit that aqua green rides a fine line between blue and green, but STILL. I had to watch the Level set prom...

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release
I can tell just from reading the first sentence that you completely misunderstood my argument. I'm not saying that because it's old, it should look old. I'm saying, it's an old show & should be respected as one by giving it a good restoration. People know DB started in the 80s & originally ...
