Re: How different would the dub be if Funimation was still with Saban?
Ron Wasserman could have had more of a chance to prove himself to the people that didn't like his soundtrack for the first two seasons. He seemed to really like working on the show, and the whole concept behind it. Maybe Saban also would have replaced Rock the Dragon with an new theme song for Seaso...

Re: DBZ Syndication era Affiliate Promos.
Or, like, my garage. I don’t have a working VCR anymore though; it shit the bed last time I tried to check something for someone here on the forum 😂. I’ll do it at some point. 🤷🏻♂️ I also haven't had a working VCR in a while. I have country-specific early 2000s recordings of the Namek Saga dub tha...

Re: DBZ Syndication era Affiliate Promos.
And no I do not mean the "Saban Kids Promos" I mean those that explicitly name the affiliate or network Dragon Ball Z ran in at the time. I have major interest in that era so I would LOVE you guys forever if you saw any. This one is from early namek, around 1997 for WB50 https://www.youtu...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)
This whole situation reminded me of this 1996 student project by Adam Campetti that was originally on YouTube ten years ago. Barry and Byron Watson are interviewed in it and it's just the quaintest thing in the world. Have fun returning to 1996! https://youtu.be/4dIW_IfhWgc They mention that the sh...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)
So where do we go from here? Do we have any leads we can start with, like someone at Funimation who might know something about this dub? Most of the personnel currently at Funimation that worked on DBZ weren’t around in 1996 Ian Corlett would probably be the most knowledgeable person that fans coul...

Re: Who composed Rock the Dragon?
“Ocean dub” sounds much catchier than “the original edited dub”, especially when the former was what fans had already been accustomed to calling it for years. Agreed, and I think Vollmer meant she was the first Bulma that most people were familiar with. Besides that's more accurate then "origi...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)
If he stopped voicing Goku as soon as the Saiyan Saga ended, then it would be a certainty that the last thing he did was Tree of Might, since the Saiyan Saga episodes had a 1996 copyright date. He didn’t stop voicing Goku as soon as the Saiyan saga ended as he was voicing Goku until episode 37, 11 ...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)
Pretty sure it was confirmed Tree of Might was also the last thing Corlett recorded was Tree of Might, even though it ended up airing a few episodes into Kelamis taking over the role. Unless someone asks him, it's speculation. The Namek episodes he did have a 1997 copyright date in the credits, and...

Re: Who composed Rock the Dragon?
Over the last few years, I've independently come to the conclusion that Jeremy Sweet is the person singing Rock the Dragon. The reasons are because: 1. On Saban shows from the mid-90s-early 2000s, "Shuki Levy & Kussa Mahchi" are listed under "music by" in the credits, while t...

Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?
I have much older siblings who were into it when DBZ was big in the west, back in the late 90's/early 2000's. So Dragon Ball is something I've been aware of for literally as long as I can remember. This applies to me as well. If I was a single child or an oldest child then I might be able to recall...

Re: The Dragonball Misinformation Thread.
On a similar note: The notion that Shuki Levy composed any music for Dragon Ball. All available information points to Ron Wasserman being the sole composer of the Saban dub's replacement score. Shuki Levy was always credited for music that Saban provided, but a lot of the time, it was actually comp...

Re: Unreleased "Vendar" English dub of Dead Zone (Funimation/Ocean, 1996)
That test dub of Dead Zone likely had Peter Berring doing the music. I found a link on the internet that suggested Ron Wasserman would have started working on the DBZ soundtrack around July 1996, whereas this Dead Zone dub was early 1996. Saban were probably still in the picture though, since I've f...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Singles - Faithful to Broadcast?
The Tree of Might originally aired in syndication as a three-part episode during November 1997, with part one airing the same day as "Immortality Denied" (ep 45) and parts 2 and 3 airing the following week. Obviously it wasn't included as part of the singles Pioneer released. On the single...

I've been a university guy since 2016. Whenever I discuss Dragon Ball with ~19 year olds there these days, they mainly remember it through TFS. Interesting seeing the shift from people around my age or older, who caught it when the OG funi dub was still happening.

He might be referring to thisMasenkoHA wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 7:58 pmMaybe in some fan edit? The actual dub never used the Kikuchi music period (Pioneer movies aside)GhostEmperorX wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 7:45 pm
Switching audio between one of the versions, some Kikuchi tracks are still there, just awkwardly mixed in with the Wasserman score.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Another unpopular opinion: Funimation aiming DBZ at the young audience in the late 90s was perfect. In the late 90s, people craved more action and violence (WWF, Jerry Springer, South Park, etc. etc.). By starting off with DBZ and using a more action-packed base OST, it helped DBZ connect to Americ...

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?
Like when it comes to being more modern the Faulconer Productions OST has a lot more going for it than the Kikuchi score which goes for a more old-timey kind of thing. Even in the era it debuted in, it was still a mismatch of content of the time. Faulconer Production's used the latest synth tech to...

23 in under 3 months. Been watching the anime and playing the video games since 2001 or 2002. I'm quite younger than most people here (and now even a lot older than some) but still can relate to the experience of being into Dragon Ball at the height of the western popularity.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Interesting as I found his X-Men score much "darker". It's definitely a lot more serious than the Power Rangers score https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1ZYStAQhSg When you listen to this you sort of get some Saban DBZ vibes. The DBZ score however also had a lot of rock elements and goofy c...
