Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Been keeping up-to-date with the thread but I've not had anything to add personally. Oh god am I disappointed today :( very sad news. Just hard to understand after hearing Brian Drummond's recent interview where the production coordinator stated that they weren't sure where it was going yet. The op...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
What a shame this isn't going to be released. I was hoping to see some of the best Canadian voice actors redeem themselves after a rushed dub. I feel bad for them since McNeil and Tockar seemed to be proud of their work. At least Ocean is going to dub Gintama, and I hope they do their best on that d...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Indeed. Drummond, in his recent interview by Geekdom, stated that they have only recorded up to Cell years ago. However, it is possible, that due to the NDAs, that he is not telling us that maybe he's been called in more recently to do retakes etc. Since knowledge of Ocean Kai was leaked years ago,...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Absolutely. If FUNi can get a pass for retrying after their first attempt, I think the Vancouver (and even Blue Water's talent) deserve to prove that they can do better for Dragonball as well. I feel that we need to at least know by the producers themselves what is going on with Ocean Kai. At least...

Re: Would you have liked to see Pioneer dub the franchise?
Hell yes, if it was dubbed like the first three movies. Nah, the voices WERE a problem. What people DO like is the attitude toward the dub. But they also didn't have Japanese audio, so the casting is WAY off. More realitically - Saffron Henderson- Masako Nozawa, Cathy Weseluck- Kuririn, Roshi- Garry...

I'm quite glad they improved for Kai. I can't wait for the Buu Saga Kai dub and Super dub.

Re: Opinions on Ian Corlett as Goku
I liked Corlett as Goku, but my problem with him is that his screams were pretty ehh... In an interview with Trevor Devall, he said that he wasn't paid for yelling, which kind of explains why his screams were mediocre. I guess he should have been paid. If Ian had taken the screams more seriously, th...

Paul Dobson could definitely make for a good Perfect Cell however I don't see him being great in the previous forms. I think Paul Dobson could pull off Imperfect Cell with a variation of his Nidhiki from Bionicle, and as for Semi-Perfect Cell, he would use an awkward version of his E.O. Captain fro...

Re: Is the dub of the Buu saga good?
Not really. There are some good voices such as Brannan's Babidi, Robertson's Dabura and Hebert's Gohan, but there are also bad ones such as Goten, Killa and Trunks. Sabat's Vegeta still sounds forced and he alternates between his grunting ogre and his Kai voice for Piccolo. The worst voice however i...

Probably in Kai. The dubs for DB and GT were decent at best, I guess.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
There's still rasp in Kai. Some people have raspy voices. I didn't hear that much rasp in Kai, only a little of it. For other unpopular opinions: - I liked movie 11. - Although Blue Water's GT dub was terrible (with the exception of a few voices), I thought that their DB dub was decent. - I like Ya...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
To me, the rasp didn't work because it made Sabat's acting come off as forced and unnatural. When Sabat got rid of the rasp in Kai, his acting got much better.ABED wrote:People make a much bigger deal of the rasp than I think is warranted. In Vegeta's case, it works.

I'll add that the rasp got worse in GT.Bansho64 wrote:This. To me, it was a little bit better but that ugly rasp was still there. I'd give his Z redub performance a 1/5 to be honest.

I think that Sabat only started to improve in Kai, not in the Buu Saga Z dub.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
No one knows yet. Alistair Abell and Dale Wilson were both still active during the years this was dubbed so there's a good chance they both auditioned again. That being said, Kirby Morrow did re audition for Goku and was turned down so there's a possibility they chose new actors this time. The dub'...

Re: What'd a proper English cast of Dragon Ball sound like?
If DBZ had been dubbed in the early 1990's with American cartoon voice actors (which is implausible), I would have loved to see Corey Burton as Cell, Frank Welker as Buu, Tony Jay as King Cold and Charlie Adler as Freeza. As for Goku, perhaps Michael Bell or Dan Gilvezan.

Re: How did the re-cast characters turn out (in your opinion)?
Freeza: Downright perfect. He's the definitive English Freeza. Every scene with him is absolute gold. My favorite scene is the one where he loses his composure over losing the chance of getting immortality. Gohan: While Nadolny was very good as Kid Goku, I never liked her Gohan. Clinkenbeard is defi...

Since Goku and Frieza have been replaced, I wonder who they'll cast as Future Trunks and Cell.
