Re: Why did the Blue Water and Big Green dubs keep the original score?

why did Blue Water not dub the movies? That would have been great but as far as an English AB Groupe dub, there are the "Big Green" for Movies 1 and 3, and they probably dubbed Movie 2 and 4 but we've not seen them. They also dubbed the GT TV Special. There absolutely were "Big Green...

Re: Why did the Blue Water and Big Green dubs keep the original score?

As far as GT goes, it's worth keeping in mind that Blue Water's GT was dubbed very quickly after the conclusion of the Z dub. It began airing in the United Kingdom even before the first DVDs of FUNimation's dub were released in the United States, and many months before FUNi's version would air on t...

Re: Do you like Kikuchi Kai?

I like it fine enough but the Yamamoto score was way better and tended to have way better placement too. I don't know why I feel this way, I love the Kikuchi score for DB and DBZ, but it just comes off dated and forced in Kai? Because it is both of those things as it pertains to Kai. Kai is a delib...

Re: Why did the Blue Water and Big Green dubs keep the original score?

Re: OP Simple: Money was never the problem. Something a lot of people don't think about in regards to the Westwood Z dub is that its score wasn't Anitunes being brought in to do a score largely made up of reused tracks, at least not at first. At the very least, for the majority of its run, the scor...

Re: Interesting coincidences regarding voice actor choices

The biggest coincidence of all has to be the connection between FUNimation's Cell and Westwood/Ocean's Cell.

Dameon Clarke's sister dated Dale Wilson and it's because of Wilson that Clarke got into acting to begin with.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

It always makes me facepalm that Funimation had the nerve to fire a bunch of veterans to only replace them with a bunch of nobodies because they were cheaper. It clearly shows that Funimation wasn't the best company to handle Dragon Ball. When you hire nobodies to dub over a show that was composed ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Here is another interview pointing to the late 2000 start date for the Westwood dub. This one was with Saffron Henderson, and it's the interview where she revealed her reason for leaving the show (her wedding conflict). She recorded as many episodes as she could in late 2000 before having to leave....

Any information you have on these dubs, any interviews you can link, any printouts or whatever you can pass along, I'd love to give a look. :) I'm sure there will be more to come. One thing I note from that interivew... Kelamis says he was directed by Karl Willems!!... Did Willems really direct the...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

That is strange. I always remember that scene being shown in the UK broadcast. Perhaps it has something to do with YTV needing more time for commercials. That seems likely. YTV played more and more commercials as time went on. It's a solid theory, but you're placing too much stock in AB Groupe's in...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

But, the thing is, there's so much interpretation going into turning these facts into a coherent idea of what actually happened. Hell, even the name of this dub is a misnomer. No "Westwood" company was involved in any Dragon Ball dub's production to my knowledge, the AB Z dub's common &qu...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Was the footage still from the AB Groups master despite the funi episode title cards? Yes. The footage for the episodes was still exactly the same AB masters used in the European broadcasts, but FUNimation's episode title cards were edited back in. It's unfortunate that they didn't just use FUNi's ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

The most that AB Groupe actively did was provide the video tracks for the last 4 episodes of DBZ because FUNi hadn't dubbed those episodes yet when the Vancouver cast went in to record them at the end of 2002. The odd thing is, that while those final Westwood DBZ episodes did use the AB Groupe foot...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

That theme song isn't specific to the Westwood dub. It actually predates it, although it was indeed used for it as well. Rather, it is the opening theme that the series had in Canada throughout the entirety of its run, regardless of at which point in the series it was, or who the cast was. It was t...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Mmmm...kinda. You got a shortened, English-dubbed version of the Japanese OP , and the lyrics bore no resemblance to the original (then again, one could argue this is a good change, as the original lyrics had nothing to do with Dragon Ball). But hey, at least it used the original instrumental track...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Does anyone have any examples of original tracks made just for Westwood Z's later days? I think this and this were scored with original pieces, though I'm not 100% certain. While I believe there were some original tracks composed during the later days of the Westwood run (there was a noticeable imp...

The reason why Kelamis left the role was because he wanted to focus on his comedy career or something IIRC. That's what DB Wiki says... ... Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

Okay, here's the thing. They have no business tampering with the show that much. Toei already tampered with the show 'that much' by replacing all of the Yamamoto music, even though a large chunk of it probably didn't infringe on other copyrights. They have no reason to create a replacement score. T...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

I doubt anything they come up with is going to be as good as Kikuchi's score. Considering how terrible a fit the Kikuchi score is for the faster-paced Dragonball Kai , a replacement score could only be a good thing. Yamamoto's score would be far preferable, but that couldn't happen unless they work...

Re: Should I...

Kai was worth it with the Yamamoto score. It gave it a nice, different feel.

Now with the Kikuchi score it's just a waste of time.
