Re: Deep Thoughts: Movie 8, 9, 10

Movie 8 was the dub first script that Chris Sabat handled and it certainly shows. Movie 6's dub was also super-accurate, and that was handled by John Burgmeier (Tien)

Re: Deep Thoughts: The Cell Games

For all the talks fans have of the series going harder into sci-fi even the most sci-fi heavy arc ends up concluding at a martial arts tournament. The decision to make Gohan the main character seemed pretty out of left field. He was no more important than Krillin and Piccolo in the Freeza saga and ...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

Dude, he's not saying that doesn't think Gine lied, he's saying he doesn't understand why she would lie. He's essentially saying that the character's actions don't make sense, not that they didn't actually happen. That's why I said you need to read people's posts more clearly. Nearly every argument ...

Re: Deep Thoughts: Movie 4 and The Garlic Jr. Saga

I've said this before, but in hindsight it would've been a lot smarter to have made Movie 4 a Garlic Jr. Sequel while making Lord Slug the filler villain.that way, the continuity shenanigans are gone and an Evil Namekian is an interesting follow up to the Frieza saga

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

..I wasn't saying they are. I was saying that I don't think the way SS progressed in universe is due to the importance of what had been established conceptually being lost. To me it was a conscious intent because it makes logical sense. Trunks and Goten didn't turn for the funsies. They had more fa...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

It's not "I'm going to die" it's "I might die" Yeah? Exactly. That "might" is what means there's a chance Raditz will ask why Goku was even sent away especially if he witnesses them going to get him back which would be odd. They don't want Freeza to find out but they'r...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

When Super Saiyan was introduced it was treated as this legendary thing that only happens once every hundred years. Even when Gohan, Vegeta, and Future Trunks all obtain it later on we see the mental and emotional anguish they had to go through to achieve it. And then the two little rugrats just tu...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

And speaking of Super Saiyan, remember how Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, and Gohan had to bust their asses and undergo intensely negative emotions in order to pull it off? Goten and Trunks can just do it. They don't even know what it's called. Hell, Goten doesn't even know how to fly and he can do it. Drag...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

Not that long ago I would've said that the Cell arc was unquestionably better than the Buu arc. The likely reason I would've given is the Buu arc is too comical to take seriously. I also would've said superheroes should be more serious. Now I see that was a juvenile way to view these sorts of thing...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

I soured on the manga version of the King Piccolo arc due to it being a hollow retread of Tao Pai Pai, though I still love the raised stakes, just feel it could've been executed better. I've come around on the Buu saga a bit...narratively it's still an utter clusterfuck but y'know...I actually appre...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

I like to keep it simple - The only Saiyans who survived just happened to be offworld at the time. It's coincidence, and that's fine. Freeza blew up Planet Vegeta on a whim and didn't care enough to kill the remaining Saiyans as long as they stayed in line. He probably liked Vegeta and created the ...

Re: Could foreign dub casts be a thing of the past?

At the risk of sounding rude....have you ever heard an actual person talk....ever? This line would be the slightest bit funny if it made any sense. We're talking about dubs and voice acting...are you telling me voice acting for a children's cartoon is how you think people talk in real life? You mig...

Re: Could foreign dub casts be a thing of the past?

Yeah it still sounds artificial af. I wouldn't be worried anytime soon Must be placebo. Can you honestly say if you had never heard of AI voice generation and you didn't know who Ryo Horikawa was...that you'd think this is artificial "af"? Cap And while you're not worried, like I say, som...

Really, the whole Movie 1 soundtrack might be Kikuchi's best work in the whole show

Re: Dragon Ball and Toxic Masculinity

Personally, I wouldn’t have much of a problem with right-wingers if they weren’t actively trying to set America back to the 1950s, and didn’t keep calling people they don’t like groomers. Toriyama turning Yamcha into a cheater despite initially being depicted as afraid of girls shines a lot of ligh...

Re: Dragon Ball and Toxic Masculinity

If you think both poor white and "hood" cultures are riddled with misogyny and toxic masculinity, why single out "hood" culture and people of colour? Don't know, but this isn't the first sketchy comment you've had on race on this board. You should maybe check your own biases. Be...

Re: Dragon Ball and Toxic Masculinity

There definitely has been a problem in modern media of overcorrecting the portayal of men and writing them as incompetent manbabies who need a woman's guidance just to function properly...I've even noticed my own writing slipping into that and have had to revise it. It's jarring because most of the...
