Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
I'm glad this turned out to be real. I actually have high hopes for it, though I think it's important to take it as its own thing, not "Super 2". This could well be the start of another new slate for the franchise, though it's more likely to be a one-off for the 40th anniversary. As far as...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
A video game related point, but I really don’t like how both Android #18 and Videl are so prominently supported by #17 and Gohan respectively in DB FighterZ. On top of it not being a good look for two of the most significant female warriors in the series having to be propped up by stronger male alli...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 97 - Official Discussion Thread
Well its possible I'm just a little more cynical but I am happy to be able to enjoy Super Hero in 2023, especially the film. Maybe my expectations are lower, or maybe I just have a fuller understanding of the challenges of creating new Dragon Ball stories after so much time... but I mean, you're ta...

Re: Dragon Ball Magic? *RUMOR*
Post-EOZ would probably be better, but if them's the breaks, I'd be interested in seeing more exploration into Goku's state of mind leading into the EOZ timeframe, where he's bored stiff and leaps at any opportunity to escape his civvie life. Shin could be a good sounding board, especially as someon...

Re: Dragon Ball Magic? *RUMOR*
Probably the most plausible leak I've seen in some time, glad they actually gave some concrete detail this time - though I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket, considering Geekdom and all the usual suspects' lacklustre track record. If true, it would be refreshing to see them move away from the...

Re: Have any of your Dragon Ball fanfictions (or part thereof) became a reality?
Reading the Moro arc in the Dragon Ball Super manga was rather surreal since the entire first half is eerily similar to an old scrapbook fanfic I had which involved the gang travelling to New Namek, encountering a much stronger Piccolo Daimao (come on, Moro is an almost exact replica of the green ol...

Re: Toyotarou's Ideas Leave No Impact on Dragon Ball Super
Super in general falls under this. The arcs have no real cohesion or connection beyond minor details. it's just all around sloppy. Most of them have nothing to do with each other. They just happen like the old Toei movies. The ToP bult up all these powerhouses, and then they're never seen again. Wh...

Re: Characters you'd like to see interact more often
In the anime's Universe Survival arc, we see a nice moment of mutual respect between Vegeta and Muten Roshi. I wouldn't mind seeing more insight into how they feel about each other. Ever since Broly became pals with Goku, I've wanted to see him properly ingratiated with the Dragon Gang and have fun ...

Re: Why is "new" mainline Dragon Ball so stuck in the past?
In most cases, I would agree that a series being stuck in the past is a bad thing, though with Dragon Ball, I can see the value in how it stays firmly connected to its halcyon years. Both the fans and creators know when it peaked. Dragon Ball has reached that enviable point of pop culture ubiquity (...

Re: What would be the political stance of DB characters
Heh. It could be funny to see some political compass meme with DB characters. - Goku is always oblivious, so he would be politically neutral, probably not on the chart at all. - Vegeta would be a heavily right-leaning libertarian. He prefers societies to follow Darwinian rules, so he'd definitely be...

Re: Vegeta's poem in the cover for #467
Yeah they should've been kept it, very poignant. I'd hazard a guess that it's a fairly normie poetic reference by Japanese standards, kinda like referencing Percy Shelley's Ozymandias in an English work, but it's nice to get the occasional whiff of "high culture" in Dragon Ball.

Re: The people who grew up with Censored and or modified Dragon Ball
We can't say for 100 percent certainity but we have seen Dragon Ball Z with a more faithful dub succeed via the Ocean dub of the first 2 Z movies airing on Toonami and Kai on Nicktoons. Faithful scripts, Japanese music left intact, and editing only what was necessary to get the show broadcasted on ...

Re: The people who grew up with Censored and or modified Dragon Ball
It’s always a little odd seeing a thread get made about a debate that took place in a completely different thread  I’m not sure how well this reflects Kunzait’s views but I will say I am very apathetic to the various discussions on how Western fans would have reacted to Dragon Ball in some alte...

Which Super arc comes closest to Toriyama's proposed "Vegeta movie"?
Toriyama in Saikyo Jump's Super Q&A: As for Vegeta, in the event that there’s talk of another animated film, then next time, I’d like him to play the main role. (Of course, this is nothing more than intentions, and I haven’t decided anything at all.) Although we all know that no Vegeta-focused ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
The only contexts where Dragonball Evolution would be acceptable to reference in this day and age would either be a split second stock footage cameo in some multiverse sequence, or a pure "take that" against how bad it was. Otherwise, there's no redemption for it. I'd say it's a different...

Re: Racism in the Dragon Ball fandom
If you want this thread to be about "calling out racism", you can't really lead the discussion without naming any specific instances, other than some broad "racism = bad" statements which nobody here would disagree with. The wider issue of racism obviously goes far beyond the sco...

Re: Worst beatdown in the entire series
Goku and Vegeta are about on par in terms of the sheer number of brutal beatdowns they've endured, though Vegeta tends to get unfairly targeted the most and they're often the most humiliating. Between the two, I think Vegeta gets the last laugh with his giant monke mode beatdown on Goku in the Saiya...

Re: It’s literally such a SHAME how LAME and WASTED Videl became.
This part. I could understand being frustrated if the topic is like "Should Super Saiyan 4 become implemented in Super?" And then someone goes out of their way to find a way to go "Buuuut sexism! 😠" But....is that even happening..... like at all? This is a thread about how Videl...
