Re: Aspect ratio and the movies
Yes, they did this to fit the footage to widescreen. You can see these black bars on the old Spanish DVD release, too. These shots were zoomed in to crop the black bars on the first Japanese VHS/Betamax release. https://i.imgur.com/760AVdhm.png https://i.imgur.com/1NqXBehm.png https://i.imgur.com/51...

Re: Preserving the Nicktoons Airings of DB Material
Incidentally, oddly enough, episode 60 was mistakenly broadcast on Cartoon Network Brazil with the English dialog and the original score, so it was once aired on TV at least, but not in the United States. The audio was switched back to the Portuguese dub with the Kikuchi score in the middle of the ...

Re: Preserving the Nicktoons Airings of DB Material
The rarest thing from Nicktoons must be the rebroadcasts of the early Android arc after Toei acknowledged Yamamoto's plagiarism. Initially, Toei seems to have tried to handle the situation by replacing only the particular pieces of music confirmed to be plagiarized, so Nicktoons' rebroadcasts got s...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Call me crazy, but I think they (every so slightly) removed some of the DNR. http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/7YLYWNNX Check out the rocks on the left and the shadow right under King Colds horn. It may not be enough, but an observation (and yet more questions lol) Thes...

Re: Dragon Ball AI Project
Shouldn't this belong to the Fan-Created Works section? Anyway, this looks fine enough for casual viewing and I find this better than Funi's oil painting remaster at least. The color correction is okay. However, they used the stereo sources for the theme songs which resulted in the absence of the go...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
This was easily predictable and at this point I'm not offended by Funi's decision at all, but I hope they get rid of the pointless fake film grain and leave the DNR'ed footage "untouched." It'd look better that way at least. I highly doubt they'll bother to re-compress the footage and I'm ...

Re: Upscaling the Movies using AI Machine Learning
I tried the same software and it worked better with the HD footage. 1080p contains most of the essential details of cel animation, so it suffers less from unnatural fake details and it woks more like a smart sharpener.

A sense of entitlement and elitism, huh? You guys absolutely love to suspect bullshit without reason. Stop spitting on someone you know nothing about and just shut up and enjoy your fangasm brought to you by the thankless contributor . You got what you wanted. I will still keep seeking for the best ...

Re: Voiceless Audio Track on Chinese VCDs
How did this happen? Was that a mistake from the people who mixed those vcd? I think it's unintentional. Only one volume contains the M&E audio on the right audio channel. Btw, are you interested in the episodes I have? I think the quality is good, it's the quality they gave to the dub studio, ...

Re: Voiceless Audio Track on Chinese VCDs
Sorry for bringing back a so old topic, but I would like to know if finally someone was able to get all those Music and Effects from any episode from those Chinese VCD, and if he is willing to share them with me  I've got that VCD box (more precisely, a box with VCD video files on DVDs) and i...

Re: DBZ Creative Products/Filipino Dub "Greatest Rivals" HQ
Glad to know the TV series is finally found. I remember that some short off-screen clips were uploaded on YouTube over a decade ago, but they were taken down by Toei immediately, and I've never seen or heard anything since then. IIRC, the narrator was female, but maybe it will turn out to be a fault...

The point here is that it doesn't have the ghosting caused by DNR that can be seen on the DBox.ArmenianPepsi wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 7:20 pm I'm kind of impressed, that actually doesn't look half bad. Looks much more watchable than Funi's worst work, i'll give it that

Re: The All-Purpose Bardock & Goku Thread
Damn, that father-son Kamehameha. To me, honestly, this is the most disgusting thing recently happened to the DB franchise. The art itself alone may be acceptable at least (aside from the artistic flaws such as their inconsistent directions of eyes,) but I cannot stand Toyotaro's shallow-minded idea...

Re: State of the Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z Broadcast Audio?
Every episode of DB is covered by at least one Fuji TV capture (some include video, most are audio-only), which covers the full frequency range of the broadcasts in optimal quality, and many have alternate sources captured from other stations that had a 10KHz frequency cutoff. Every terrestrial ana...

Re: Kanzenshuu Thread of Dragon Ball-Adjacent Media & Influences
Though Toriyama is an extremely talented and very clever person, he is not kind of a person who is well-educated or knowledgeable, so I think it is a right choice to seek for the sources of his ideas mainly in pop culture, especially its contents available and hot in Japan at the time. The Wuxia thr...

Re: Are there any parts of the world where OG Dragon Ball is more popular than Z?
Though I can't think of any actual examples right now, if there're any regions that received only the original DB, that means it's practically more popular than Z there. When it comes to where both of them have been broadcast, from what I know, Z is always more dominant. In the case of receiving onl...
