he's seen all of them. :? Inform him if he actually has time to watch all of them, he should be watching the Japanese version. And if he says he has, tell him it doesn't suck just because it's an old show, and that many newer anime were influenced by it. I had a "friend" who said the same...

Julian's petition is actually well-written with valid points. I don't have quite as much faith as the users over at the FUNimation boards.

I'd say just start off with the Saiya-jin saga. Maybe not from the beginning, but around the battle with Vegeta and Nappa. Worked for me anyway.

Could anyone point out the problem with the picture of Cell? I'm not saying there isn't one, I just don't see it.

We need to get Funimation to listen to us as to why this is wrong. A letter, a petition, something.

Not necessary? I disagree entirely, I'm afraid. I can't see any reason why they can't release an unaltered full-frame version with all the original footage. The image I posted is what it should look like, except without the missing corners, and the stretching. Ok, necessary might have been a poor c...

By claiming that the new set is widescreen, they are tapping into the idea that's been floating around for a while that widescreen gives you all of the picture. The movie studios have been putting that notion forward for years, in order to convince people to purchase widescreen editions of movies t...

I'm still not sure I understand why the top and bottom would have to be cropped at all. If leaving in the whole picture means not getting widescreen, then that's what they should do, especially since the show was meant to be in 4:3 to begin with.

The bottom line is it seems that Funimation arn't able to releace the original Japanese remastered footage, and by making a remastered series of their own episodes... they had to loose the top and bottom halves of the image. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that. Even if they don't use the whole...

There's two pronunciations that I would deem correct:

Kah-mee-hah-mee-hah

or

Kah-may-Hah-may-Hah

But it's definitely not kuh-may-huh-may-huh, which sounds like what was used in the Ocean Studios dubs of the episodes.

Rather than a trimmed down version, we should get something like what they did with the 10th anniversary DB movie, but for DBZ.

I'd watch a trimmed version if it still had the filler that I wanted. Get rid of most of the filler, but not necessarily all of it. I'm thinking 25 episodes per saga, so around 100 eps for the whole series. Maybe a couple more at the end as a type of wrap-up to the show though.

I think I figured out the widescreen problem. Ok, so the Japanese raw footage has some more of the image then FUNimation showed. All FUNi has to do is put black lines over what they didnt show us before and poof, widescreen! It also shows more of the image this way on the right and lefts sides. So ...

My mistake, bad choice of words. I know it doesn't really upconvert (since it's still 480), but rather deinterlace as you said.

We better not be getting an interlaced encoding. It had better be progressive with pulldown flags! DVDs can do 480p.
All DVDs are interlaced encodings. It's progressive-scan players that allow you to upconvert them from 480i to 480p.
