Re: Has TFS damaged the reputation of the franchise in the U

Everything's subjective until someone enjoys things in a different way than you do. Then suddenly they're wrong. I'll admit to that flaw many times, but not all the time. There are times when I think "I know, taste is supposed to be subjective, but how can you not see how bad/good this is?&quo...

Re: Has TFS damaged the reputation of the franchise in the U

I also think reviews of something should also factor in whether or not it's already been done, regardless of whether it's funny or entertaining in the first place (totally not saying this applies to TFS :P ). So, in that sense, you are looking at the context around a certain product.

Re: Opinions on the English BT2 score

Oh, absolutely. Further diluted by Lost Courage and Dark Half being the only ones I could actually name off-hand. I wasn't so much referring to being able to name certain tracks as being able to remember key parts of them. Also, BT2 gives you the option of choosing the track you want for multiplaye...

Re: Opinions on the English BT2 score

It's an okay soundtrack. There's a few tracks in there that I think are great and very memorable, but a lot of it is kind of "filler music", that leaves no impression. This, entirely. Going through Dark Prince's linked list, Dark Half, Lost Courage, Mind Space, Lonesome Wild, and Awake se...

Re: Do U hate it when DBZ symbolizes rock/metal in oth.count

That mystical adventure never really leaves even in some of the more spacey parts though and I feel like that's often forgotten. Boo is essentially an evil genie, The ROSAT has magical properties, Cell's arena is literally a martial arts ring, the adventure to Namek is...well, an adventure to find ...

Re: Which Soundtrack Do You Prefer

What about the synths make them distinctly "90s"? Could you give an example of a track that feels too "90s"? No, I can't. Both because it's been so long since I've listened to the dub score that I have no idea what is what, and because I never said it's "too '90s" and ...

Gaffer Tape wrote: I disagree that most feels extremely dated. Orchestral music tends to age much more gracefully than, say, '90s synthesizers.

Re: How should I access the original Dragonball series?

Unlike other series, there really aren't any significant changes to the story in the anime adaptation. In that case, I think, it really just comes down to a broader personal preference: do you prefer to watch animation or read manga/comics? If DB had been a novel, I might recommend buying both. But,...

Re: Dragon Ball and Dramatic Structure

I agree completely. I think the divisions that some companies make shouldn't be taken as gospel. With there being only be 3 arcs/sagas, the series as a whole would seem to some people as being ... I dunno, kinda long-winded in comparison (which it is, but there's an effort here not to make it seem t...

Re: What's the best Dragon Ball has ever looked?

I think GT had by far some of the best art in the entire series. I can't think of any specific episodes off-hand, but the fight with Baby on the Tuffle planet and the TV special had some fantastic stuff. Oh, and the OP/EDs as well. The quality of the animation plus the songs themselves, which are th...

Or drive, or other factors. Well, yeah. I'm assuming that these people are actually trying. I'm not even sure what you're ultimate aim is. World domination. It's completely the wrong way to look at it because that implies it was done as a favor. Again, I don't think it implies that at all. I think ...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

Merit doesn't determine wether something is created or is successful. Merit comes as a result of that. I don't mean to be rude, but I still have no idea what this means. Could you explain this a little differently? What I actually said: "if the series is successful it's because of him, what he...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

So the "a hungry man isn't free" argument? Never heard of this. A number of the richest men in history started out very poor. And a lot of poor people stay poor. Except you've never heard of them because they didn't make anything of themselves. It all begins with the product. To frame it ...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

Come on, seriously? Merit: The quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward. I didn't mean literally define "merit". I meant explain the whole sentence to me, because it's still not making sense. I shouldn't have been so abrupt, but I'm having...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

No, it's obviously not the same thing. Merit comes as a result of work and success, not the other way around. Define "merit" for me, because I can't make any sense of what you've just said (and while you're at, it define "burden of proof" for me as well). I said that distributio...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

You said that merit is the only thing that determines whether something is created and is successful. No, I didn't. I said that if the series is successful it's because of him, what he created and the choices he made (that's what made us buy it). That's basically the same thing (the merit of Toriya...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

You didn't buy with your money the right to demand of him exactly what you personally want to happen with the franchise in the future. I never made any such claim. Perhaps you're confusing me with another user. All I said was everyone who bought a DB-related product is partly responsible for Toriya...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!

No, we aren't. We are responsible for buying something that we like. In other words, part of what we spent eventually went to Toriyama, contributing to his wealth and therefore "success" (insofar as success means making a lot of money). We got something out of it, yes, but that doesn't ch...

And if he doesn't make something, there's nothing for us to be a fan of and buy. It's a symbiotic relationship, but it starts with the artist.
Right, but I'm not seeing how this contradicts anything that I said. Could you elaborate?
