Re: Dragon Ball: Budo Conference (2015)
While this is back at the top I'd just like to say that 大会 (たいかい ) can absolutely be "Conference" or "Gathering" it would probably be more in the spirit of DB to use one of the other translations like "competition," "tournament," or "contest." Or, si...

He probably didn't want too. I second this! Some martial artists like tournaments. Some don't. Some compete for awhile then stop. Others keep competing. Some martial arts schools build their entire business off combat sports! Others might not even have or focus on a competitive element! Before this...

Re: 30th Anniversary sets or Dragon Boxes?
If you're cool with the Blue Bricks or the Green Bricks you'll be cool with the steel books (30th anniversary footage). Since you have the DBox, though, it's not really necessary. For anyone who doesn't wanna track down overpriced DBoxes at this point, though, the steel books or those 3-pack Wal-mar...

Re: More Kids Watch Dragon Ball on Adult Swim Than Adults do.
I am sorry for asking this uninspired question, but how the hell did any of you manage to watch adult swim that late in the night? Did you have permission or did you keep the TV volume really low? How did your sleep schedules get affected? I was a senior in high school when Adult Swim first started...

Re: Are there other shonen you acknowledge as better written than Dragon Ball?
Harry Potter is no more a Space Opera than Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings are. Star Wars was a MASSIVE overarching creative influence on the culture of movies and movie-making for decades to come up through to this day: we don't therefore just lump ALL that came after and was impacted or influe...

Re: Are there other shonen you acknowledge as better written than Dragon Ball?
You could also say different series fit into more than one genre. There are broader genres and then you can get more specific with the nitty gritty The problem I have with that is that nearly ALL the tropes and a fair amount of main character names and backgrounds in Naruto directly reference old n...

Re: How do you own the series? (2021 Edition)
It's also worth noting the Dragon Boxes are out of print, so buying them isn't legally supporting the series anyway, but rather supporting a private business owner who in most cases will rip you off. I always encourage everyone to buy whatever release they can, and as of now the 30th Blu-Rays are a...

Re: Are there other shonen you acknowledge as better written than Dragon Ball?
Not really. The "Kung Fu" genre is different than the pirate, ninja, superhero, etc. genres. Just because Naruto and Dragon Ball were aimed at the same age group doesn't mean they'll follow the same tropes and be so directly comparable. "Shinobi No Mono," a film from the 60s abou...

Re: How do you own the series? (2021 Edition)
The best way you can own the series, through fans hard work of attaining the correct audio and subs and muxing it together with a semi corrected DB Box footage. Any other way is just silly. I guess I'll be silly, then? Like really I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if you really think "...

Re: Can DB Ever Move Past Goku?
I'd rather it not move away from Goku. Saiyans stay in their prime until they're old anyway so why not keep giving him adventures and fights and new heights in martial arts. Sure, skip to Goku training Oob and stuff but like let both Goku and Oob have some spotlight like how they did with Goku and V...

Re: How do you own the series? (2021 Edition)
I have VIZ's tonkoubon box sets for the original 42 volume manga (split into DB & DBZ, of course).
I have Funi's DB Blue Bricks and their recent DBZ Steelbooks.
Then I have a few other odds and ends like the Pioneer releases of DBZ movies 1-3 and a couple other gems.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I agree, unless they announce the level sets reboot these Steelbooks will be my final perfect set Perfect is not a word I would use to describe this set. It's a mediocre set at best. Will happily stick with the Dragon Boxes over these. That's fine that you like your DBox. I think you can leave it a...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I find it interesting how the extremely vocal disdain for the 30th on this forum has suddenly shifted into acceptance and apathy. I guess Funimation has finally broken the will of the hardcores. At least there isn't anyone on here arguing that these are better than the Dragon Boxes like a certain o...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I'm getting the final two steelbooks this week. I've been pretty satisfied by their quality and I don't expect to ever buy the series again after this. If you want 4:3 DBZ at a reasonable price this is the way to go.

I stopped waiting and I ordered all the Steelbooks.
I'm done waiting. I just wanna watch DBZ in 4:3.

Some of those "lies and rumors" have a lot of posts on this forum, y'know, and they don't appreciate your sentiment toward their factual unfortunate experience with Vic.Melee_Sovereign wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 4:25 am Kind of sucks this man's reputation was ruined over lies and rumors.

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
Yeah, the gatekeeping (in the most general sense and not accusing anyone here) is getting super old and I'm just done waiting for other people to be happy before I buy something that's just for my private viewing in my own home. I think a lot of us are just tired of waiting for permission from other...

Re: If Toei ever announces they'll do a Blu-ray Dragon box
Nope! I supported Blu-ray specifically for the US and Japan to be in the same region for what I thought was the inevitable Toei DBZ Blu-rays. They never came and I'm satisfied with Funi's new DBZ Steelbooks. There's no reason for me to import DBZ anymore. The only time I did import is when the Orang...

Re: Dragon Ball Z 4:3 Steelbooks
I’m double dipping. Have the 30th anniversary and the packaging stinks so I’m getting the steelbooks too. The orange bricks and season sets were garbage and I never supported. These are watchable. I hated the 16x9 cropping. HATED. I support OAR. I’m all for widescreen if it is native. The set is wa...
